Harrison Ford's
Air Force One
A Film Review by Sgt. Stapp " An average G.I. Joe schmouck"
"Air Force One" starring yours and mine's favorite cinema action hero, Harrison Ford. It's hard to give a bad rating to our hero whom we know and cherish as Dr. Jones, Dr. Kimble, and Dr. Ryan. But I must admit I felt a little cheated at the end, still, I like this movie. It was really unbelievable but what do you expect from Hollywood.
AFO took some liberty with the real specifications of presidential plane, also - as to be politically correct, cast a female for a Vice President. I have no problems believing this. If they'd put in some females as secret agents - I would be quite annoyed (especially seeing how much blood was graphically spilt during the terrorists' rampage.) Glenn Close does a fine job as the VP Her addition to this movie gives AFO the needed seriousness to offset the make-believe situations that lunges out too often.
My biggest gripes for one of the most unrealistic circumstances is the scene near the end. It runs with Mr. Oldman holding a gun to the 1st lady's head - where it remains there for what seems more then 10 minutes. This obviously gives Mr. Ford the time to slip into his Indiana Jones character (which he then single-handedly snap Oldman's neck!) Another problem with pretensions were the maneuvers of the escorting F-15's which are a bit too unrealistic. This scene alone will make you know that you're watching a movie.
If you're a fan of Mr. Ford - be sure not to missed this one. If you want a new movie with extremely realistic thriller, involving terrorist that will make you feel like you're not watching a movie, then you won't find them in the theaters this summer.
On my conclusion: You will still enjoy it if you apply a little of your own suspension of disbelief, because, as fun as this movie is, it can't give you too much of that. Harrison Ford's performance was again, outstanding. His casting saves allot of the movie from becoming just another "Die Hard." I don't think it would ever pull in even a 3rd of the initial 37.5 million the first weekend. Also, if you're good at holding back a little suspense of disbelief, you'll find this movie tolerable enough to be enjoyable just as I have. With Mr. Ford's convincing portrayal, and the acting of the superb supporting cast, I give this movie 4 of 5 stars. It's very hard to credit a lower rating for Han Solo!
