Brenda Blethyn Joins Knightley In 'Atonement'

Brenda Blethyn, Vanessa Redgrave and Romola Garai have joined the cast of Joe Wright's Atonement, according to Variety.

Movie stars Keira Knightley and James McAvoy, with a script by Christopher Hampton adapted from Ian McEwan's novel.

Newcomer Saoirse Ronan will play the pivotal role of a 13-year-old girl who damages the lives of all around her, as well as her own, when she accuses her sister's boyfriend of a crime he did not commit.

"Atonement" is set across the time periods - a country house in the summer of 1935; the French town of Dunkirk in 1940, scene of a catastrophic defeat for the British army; and London in 1999.
