Charlie And The Chocolate Factory Gets Writer
[Tuesday, December 16th, 2003]Writer John August (Charlie's Angels) is to reteam with director Tim Burton on Warner Bros. Pictures Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, according to The Hollywood Reporter. They worked together on the latest release Big Fish, which stars Ewan McGregor.
Johnny Depp is attached to star in the redo of the 1971 Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,
August, who is said to have enjoyed an extremely positive working relationship with Burton on Big Fish, isn't the first writer hired to help Warners mount the update.
Scott Frank, Gwyn Lurie and Pamela Pettler have previously handled writing chores but August is starting from scratch, sources said, by heading back to the original source material, the Roald Dahl classic novel.
Producers are keen on getting the project before cameras early next year.
