[Thursday, June 27th, 2002]
Dennis Quaid is in negotiations to star in 20th Century Fox's big-budget actioner "The Day After Tomorrow" for helmer Roland Emmerich. If a deal is reached, Quaid will topline the Jeffrey Nachmanoff-scripted project, which is being pushed to start production in November for a summer 2003 rollout.
Budgeted at north of $100 million, "The Day After Tomorrow" is described as a high-concept film about the disastrous effects of global warming.
Fox picked up the project early last month after an aggressive bidding war that included offers from five studios.
Quaid, most recently starred onscreen in Buena Vista Pictures' "The Rookie." He next appears opposite Julianne Moore in the drama "Far From Heaven" for director Todd Haynes and Universal Pictures specialty arm Focus.
