DVD Review

"It's been a hard year for us," Aaron Hotchner (Thomas Gibson), leader of the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit, tells his mentor, profiler extraordinaire Jason Gideon (Mandy Patinkin) in the season finale. No kidding! Just when you think Criminal Minds has shown you the worst that humanity has to offer, the show unleashes an Emmy-worthy episode like "No Way Out," featuring Keith Carradine in a chilling performance as Frank, who just may be the most prolific serial killer in history, and whose capture in a desert diner is only the beginning of a battle of wits between himself and Gideon. From serial killers and a mad bomber to sadistic kidnappers and rapists, these are truly the cases that try men's (and women's) souls. In this second season, the writers have taken great care to flesh out the BAU team. In "The Aftermath," Elle Greenaway (Lola Glaudini), who still has not fully come to grips with being shot, steps over the line in stopping a serial rapist. In "Revelations," we see flashbacks to resident genius Reid's (Matthew Gray Gubler) painful childhood after a religious zealot (a scarily convincing James "Dawson" Van Der Beek), kidnaps, tortures, and drugs him (a later episode deals with Reid's addiction). In "Profiler, Profiled," devastating secrets about Derek Morgan (Shemar Moore) are revealed after he is arrested during a visit home on suspicion of being a serial killer.

New to the team this season (following Glaudini's departure from the series) is Paget Brewster (perhaps best known as Chandler's short-lived girlfriend Kathy on Friends) as Emily Prentiss, an ambassador's daughter. "Welcome to our nightmares," she is greeted. Her addition allows viewers to see familiar characters fresh through her eyes. Criminal Minds is potent stuff. "It gets to you," a character states at one point. Which might explain the gag reel clip in which Patinkin playfully breaks character during a scene in a playground by insisting on taking a spin on a merry go round and leaping on a teeter-totter (Patinkin would announce during the summer hiatus that he would not be returning to the show for season 3). Another fun extra, in addition to four illuminating episode commentaries and behind-the-scenes segments, is a profile of Kristen Vangsness, who portrays Criminal Minds' liveliest and most colorful character, "tech kitten" Garcia. Perhaps the only thing a newcomer to the series needs to know is that the term "unsub" means "unknown suspect." Its frequent use in each epsiode has the makings of a drinking game. --Donald Liebenson

"Criminal Minds" - Rating: 5/5

I am so thankful that I have this option open to me when my local Wal-Mart told me that I would have to go on their internet site to order it. I told them if I had to go on line, I was going to Amazon. I have thoroughly enjoyed the series, and as usual, will be anxious to get the next season, next year....

more please.. - Rating: 5/5

I just finished the 2nd season of Criminal Minds. I love it all the actors in it and the various "unsubs" that show up in each episode especially the season ending episode. That marks the return of serial killer from someone in the BUAs past. I like how the different characters have certain areas of expertise from a genius (Doctor) to tech genius (Garcia) love her character to one that drops down an interview and has more connects with newspapers and police than i've ever seen.

Also enjoy the profiling of the suspects that they do in each episode and also the various dramas and highs and lows that each character in the group goes through from being kidnapped to coping with the aftermath of said kidnapping. Hitting bottom and making their way back up. I just love each and every episode. I can't help but get into the stories with the way they are written and guest stars in Kate Jackson (Emily Prentiss') mother. I hope the next season continues to bring it like the 2nd season has. I know i won't be disappointed.

The only bad part is i have to wait for season 3 to come out on DVD which isn't really i'm just really wanting to see how the third season opens up for everyone in the group. Excellent actors/actresses all around in Mandy Patikin, Shemar Moore, AJ Cook, Kristine Vangness and all others as well. They work together great as a unit and that's what makes the show click for me.

Bring on more Criminal Minds please.
Out!!!

Criminal Minds - Second Season - Rating: 5/5

We love Criminal Minds. It often quite scary to watch the members of the BAU deal with the twisted minds. We found much of the content darker/gutsier than the first season. Certainly gives you something to think about. Already waiting for the third season.

Spoilers listed...Hmmm....an interesting season but - Rating: 3/5

not one that I can say I enjoyed. Elle is written off the show after her life is saved and she acted like she soooo wanted to get back to work. A new girl that you can only warm up to by the end of the season. One of the rescued victims that were rescued in the first of the season is killed in the end which is disappointing. The episodes themselves seemed more like horror flicks than something ripped from headlines. I KNOW alot of these shows could happen but who wants to watch it!

Criminal Minds Season 2 - Rating: 5/5

This is an excellent dvd and a wonderful season. The show overcame a cast change and never missed a beat. This is a great show and I would recommend this dvd to anyone.
