DVD Review

Across the Universe, from director Julie Taymor, is a revolutionary rock musical that re-imagines America in the turbulent late-1960s, a time when battle lines were being drawn at home and abroad. When young dockworker Jude (Jim Sturgess) leaves Liverpool to find his estranged father in America, he is swept up by the waves of change that are re-shaping the nation. Jude falls in love with Lucy (Evan Rachel Wood), a rich but sheltered American girl who joins the growing anti-war movement in New York's Greenwich Village. As the body count in Vietnam rises, political tensions at home spiral out of control and the star-crossed lovers find themselves in a psychedelic world gone mad. With a cameo by Bono, Across the Universe is "the kind of movie you watch again, like listening to a favorite album." (Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times)

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL FILM I HAVE EVER SEEN - Rating: 5/5

I'm not a professional reviewer. I was born in the 60s; thus was too young to really live thru the history if it all. So I view this film as a 44 year old mom of three who appreciates beauty and love and music -- and the extraordinary power of imagination. On all those counts WOW. Every scene is beautiful. THe weaving of Beatles songs into a compelling story brilliant. I want everyone I know to see this. Have shared it with my teenager's friends, my women buddies, my designer co-workers, my husband, my parents. Did I say I LOVED this film?

Great Movie - Rating: 5/5

I am someone who normally hates musicals and is not very fond of love stories, so to my surprise I loved this movie. Anyone that likes the Beatles and was around during the 60's will love this movie. This is a movie you can watch over and over again.

Across the Universe - Rating: 5/5

Excellent Movie!!! I have watched it several times already and have invited my friends over to watch it! It's even great to have on while cleaning the house. Great songs of the Beatles! Highly recommended!

Gets better with a secound viewing. - Rating: 4/5

When I first saw the movie I hated it, I thought the plot was very convoluted but the film does grow on you.

I liked the music even if the interpretations of songs are somewhat literal and even the best cover of a song cannot beat the original The Fab Four.

Highlights include the filmmakers renditions of "Come Together," "I Want You" and "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kit"

Overall-A must see for Beatles fans.

Great movie - Rating: 5/5

If you even remotely like the Beatles music, you should love this movie. I really got caught up in the love story, the friendships, and the great interpretations of classic songs.
