Welcome to the Asylum - Rating: 4/5
For me the episodes that focused too much on Baltar seemed to drag the most. And so the last two episodes of season three with Baltar's trial (although I thought there were many great moments including Lee Adama's speech at the trial), and the first two seasons of season four, with the focus on Baltar's cult of groupies, were the least satisfying. Baltar is the insecure, self centered, deceptive. bumbling mad scientist, who often offers comic relief in the series. He is loathsome, but also humorous. He is at his most amusing when talking to the figment of his imagination (his Number 6 imagining),whether by himself, or in the presence of others. But when there is too much focus on Baltar, in an otherwise heroic and intense show, the episodes tend to become diffused of their strength. Zarek, on the other hand, offers up an antagonist that matches the heroics of the show. Baltar is comic relief for the show, and is most interesting when used with discretion. It is hard to take seriously a trial for a man who is a moral wimp, or a moral wimp who is portrayed as a religious leader. How anyone could take Baltar seriously and elect him to office, or look up to him as a moral figure is the question. If Roslin had been president when on New Caprica instead of Baltar various scenarios may have been much more intense and tragic. We know how Baltar would probably react when a gun was put to his head even before it happened, but how would Roslin, Lee Adama, or even Zarek have reacted?
Starbuck's return after the explosion of her fighter was a welcome and eery sight, though this begins a series of ideas that are never really clearly resolved later on. Is she dead? Is she alive? Is she a Cylon? Is she merely imagining Leoben talking to her, or is she somehow telepathically in communication with him. How does she then have this ability? If she is dead how come she has a physical presence? It seems as the series progresses that more and more people are losing their minds, from Starbuck, to Roslin, to the ever intriguing Romo Lampkin, to the episode writers. Perhaps Battlestar Galactica can be scene as something of an insane asylum.
Pleasantly the series gets back on track and the remaining episodes of season 4.0 lead the audience on an intriguing path to Earth that becomes more intertwined with the Cylons.
Was surprised that Razor was included: - Rating: 5/5
Timing and condition was perfect. Battlestar is one of the best as far as the overall show is concerned...plus the actors were very good and totally knew their parts and seemed to really be in the program.
Don't Bother - Rating: 1/5
Season One? Gold. Season Two? More gold. Season Three? Maybe bronze. Season Four? toilet paper. And the episodes get worse the longer you watch the season...
Seriously, this is a season to skip. It certainly isn't worth paying for.
Final Season of One of the Best Stories of All time! - Rating: 5/5
This series is placed mostly under the science fiction drama, but it's so much more than that. There's an amazing dramatic story to it and a strong focus on humanity in every episode. I have never heard a bad review of this show, even from people who are not fans of the usual science fiction genre - which this is anything but usual...This fourth (final) season is the perfect continuation to this amazing story...I hesitate to call it the end because I simply don't ever want this story to ever end. The season finale is quite well defined. You'll be glad you bought this CD for many reasons. I also highly recommend getting the Caprica DVD to prepare for the prequel series coming this fall 2009. It's as supreme as Battlestar Galactica in every way!
Disappointed !!! - Rating: 1/5
I really enjoyed the first 3 seasons. Season 4 is a Major disappointment.
It feels like the writers have lost it and fallen back on mystical / esoteric babble.
Characters act ..... out of character... Most everyone is having visions and is about ready for the psycho ward...
And most of all it is boooooring.
I am not even sure if the series can recover from this disastrous season
What a shame !
