Be sure to understand that many of the reviews are critical only of the edited version. Amazon unfortunately put all the reviews at both DVD locations. My review is for the two disc uncut version. Most reviewers will tell you this is a good movie based on a Peter Benchly book and to buy the extended version. William Petersen, Karen Silas, Missy Crider, along with the rest the cast do a fine job and the production values are pretty good. This may not be as exciting as Jaws, but at a slower pace it will draw you in and keep you on the edge of your seat. I give it three and a half stars since it definitely beats out Creature and Eye of the Beast or the sequels after Jaws II. Good quality two disc set with extras with plenty of replayability. If you enjoyed this, catch Jaws (30th Anniversary Edition).

This movie was a surprise to me, as I live in Brazil and didn't even know of its existence.The plot is good, the acting is convincing, and the fx are not disappointing. They are quite realistic, in fact. The only caveat is a word of warning: buy the extended edition (this one), as you will have a clearer understanding of the whole story. Very good indeed!

This is almost identical [in content] to my VHS copy. The DVD video and sound is far more clear. I'm glad to have it in my library.

I feel as if I havn't really seen this movie because of all of the new scenes that are included in this dvd. Its great! If you like the TV version you will love this one.

i remember when this was on TV 12 yrs ago (1996) as a 2 night special. i loved watching it on TV, had the VHS player all set up to copy it and the soda and chips out both nights. was a great movie. i love Peter Benchley's books. the movie was almost a perfect match to the book minus some small parts. if your after a movie that will entertain you, make you laugh, make you sad and make you happy then this is a goer. if you like The Beast then check out Creature (1998) another movie based on Benchley's book White Shark, starring Craig T Nelson another TV movie made to DVD. loved that one when it was on TV too...
