DVD Review

If you’re interested in learning yoga but are concerned that most beginner tapes are too difficult for you, Evamarie’s Introduction to Yoga: Gentle, for Extreme Beginners is an excellent solution. Set in an ambient outdoor location to the elegant cello and guitar music of Montana Skies (montanaskiesmusic.com), this soothing dvd opens with a light and breezy warm-up to stimulate deep breathing and prepare the muscles for the yoga routine. Special emphasis is placed on proper posture and body alignment. Evamarie then leads you through basic standing postures and stretches (no one-leg balancing positions or other advanced positions), followed by floor poses that help promote strength and flexibility of the back, abdomen, arms, chest and legs. Evamarie demonstrates the postures clearly, with easy-to-understand verbal cues. Evamarie’s voice is deep and soothing, yet upbeat. Her final relaxation and meditation puts a pleasant cap on this user-friendly and effective yoga workout. What follows is Evamarie’s post-workout yoga tutorial, in which Evamarie takes the time to offer additional information on proper technique, bonus tips on becoming fit through yoga and other exercise, helpful hints on equipment (including household substitutions for many store-bought items), answers to frequently asked questions, and more. This tape is the perfect starter kit for anyone new to yoga who is looking to learn it at home.

Into to Yoga, Gentle, For Extreme Beginners - Rating: 1/5

Although I liked the program itself, the quality of the audio is so bad that it is impossible to follow. Unless this is rectified purchasing this product is a waste of your money.

Great place to start - Rating: 5/5

I bought this for my husband, because the usual beginner tapes/dvds were too advanced for him. He actually went through the entire time, and said he felt better afterwards. Any other dvd, he would have only lasted about 10 minutes.

Then... I became sick, and didn't practice yoga for almost two months. This was a terrific practice for me, to get back into the swing of things. Not too hard, but a good stretch and flexibility session.

Highly recommended for beginners! - Rating: 5/5

I chose this DVD because I would definitely consider myself an "extreme" beginner at yoga. I'm not very flexible and I've always felt self-conscious about my coordination. But I also have a weak back and I know I need to lose weight and exercise more. I LOVE this DVD. Evamarie immediately sets a relaxed and very manageable pace. Her voice is soothing and her manner is very down to earth. She has no one-legged balancing poses or "pretzel" positions (thank goodness for me), but what she does have is sufficiently challenging to make me feel like I've had a good workout. She is very explicit about proper form and allows for plenty of options if any pose feels out of your comfort zone. The outdoor setting is pleasing to eye, and the classical music is ambient without being overpowering. I feel like I'm well on my way to finally get into shape!
