Just let your SOOOOOUUULLL GLLOO! - Rating: 5/5

I've seen this movie 7 or 8 times and it still cracks me up. This is my favorite comedy of all time. The cast choice was great, I never thought of Arsenio Hall as an actor but he was great in this movie, the make-up in the movie was truly ahead of their time to the point you couldn't even tell that they (Eddie and Arsenio) were in make-up. All of the characters were funny, but I actually ached from laughter in scenes with Arsenio's preacher and in the Barber shop. That alone would be enough, but there's more. James from Good Times - John Amos and Mister Soul Glow himself - Eric LaSalle put in excellent performances as well.

Unfortunately, the critics and The Academy didn't think much of this film. I guess the ultra-rich African theme didn't appeal to some. I wish there were more movies out now like this movie. The fact this movie plays regularly on syndicated TV over 12 years proves this film is a classic.

FANTASTIC! - Rating: 5/5

Growing up I have found there aren't many films that can last a long time any more. But this one is a true classic. Near enough 20yrs and this film still does it for me. As soon as I saw the dvd I had to go and buy it! I can never get bored of this film, I will show it to my children's children cos that's how good it is. Eddie Murphy did so well on this one along with Arsenio Hall, John Amos (McDowells, what a loser lol!) and all the other actors. I don't think anyone had a weak moment in this film and the jokes are just too much e.g. SEXUAL CHOCOLATE!! lol! Whoever wrote and performed that Soul Glo tune needs to meet me cos I'd like to shake their hand HAHAHA!

One thing I loved about this film is that although Prince Akeem obviously had to adjust to American culture (what does dumb f*** mean?), the writers didn't make his character look overly dumb like other films I have seen. Prince Akeem was intelligent and knew how to study people even though he was in a different culture.

If I could I'd give this more than 5 stars but I guess you get the point from my and other people's positive reviews. So now that you like my review go get this. You'll be glad you did.

don't let the 'widescreen collection' label fool you - Rating: 1/5

The rating is for the DVD, not the movie (I'd give the movie ten stars if I could). On my widescreen TV (Sony Bravia 40" LCD), to watch this movie with the correct aspect ration, I have to watch it in full frame mode, which puts black bars not only on the left and right of the screen but, since this is a 'widescreen' DVD, there are black bars on the top and bottom as well. Apparently, when this DVD was released, you could just throw black bars on the top and bottom of the picture and call something 'widescreen.' Next year is the 20th anniversary of the movie's release, hopefully they have an update planned.

McDowell's... - Rating: 5/5

"Coming to America" is a pretty interesting film. There's comedy, there's romance, there's New York, there's James Earl Jones and Eddie Murphy.

Eddie Murphy is Prince Hakeem, son of the King of Zamunda (James Earl Jones). He has everything he wants, or does he? He's due to be married, but he wants a girl who he can talk to, who he loves, not just someone picked out for him. He can find a woman like this in America, he says, and goes to New York, to Queens, to find a Queen. He wants someone to love him for who he is, so he dresses as a regular man, lives in an apartment and takes a job at McDowell's , which is run by a Mr McDowell. His daughter is just what Hakeem is looking for, but she already has a rich boyfriend. Will he be able to win her over?

It's got a pretty witty script, some great sets for the Zamunda scenes, and Eddie Murphy is likeable enough. Four and a half stars.

Lots of Fun - Rating: 5/5

Classic 80's movie. I'll never get tired watching it. Eddie Murrphy does a wonderful job with all the different characters he plays. Love it.
