Final Fantasy Sneak Preview
[Wednesday, February 28th, 2001]CountingDown report on Day Two of the Australian Effects and Animation Festival (AEAF), where a sneak peek of the upcoming Final Fantasy was shown.
Methods and procedures used in the production were also covered, giving great insight into the scope of the project. Some of the clips shown were:
- A massive ground battle: The scene involved soldiers running everywhere in a dusty terrain. The camera was moving in a really kinetic, handheld fashion. It was very realistic but still stylized and graphic -- Square employed revered manga artists from storyboard and concept through to completion.
- Deployment of soldiers: A very cool scene where soldiers are deployed at a very high altitude from drop ships. But instead of parachutes, a manga-looking machine would hit the ground first and spit out liquid globules to give the soldiers a soft landing (like stuntment hitting the balloons after falling from a building).
