Brad Pitt Wont Paddle In Aronofskys 'The Fountain'

Brad Pitt is opting out of Darren Aronofsky's "The Fountain" and could likely land at another Warner Bros. project, the Iliad update "Troy," reports Variety.

Warner execs have apparently placed calls to agents asking about the availability of several other top stars as replacements for Pitt in "The Fountain" -- but it's unclear at this point if the project will go ahead.

Shooting on "The Fountain" was expected to start this fall. However, the film has proceeded in fits and starts for some time, falling apart once already.

The studio temporarily pulled the plug late last summer when the budget kept creeping upward, the script still had development issues and co-star Cate Blanchett was pregnant.

New Regency recently came aboard to co-finance the pic in its first deal outside of Twentieth Century Fox.

Aside from a long-standing interest in doing David Benioff's script "Troy," (aka "The War"), Pitt apparently expressed concerns about the complexity of the "Fountain" script, which is co-penned by Aronofsky and scribe Ari Handel.

Story centers on the psychological journey of one main character (played by Pitt) set in the present as well as a plotline both 500 years in the past and into the future. Among the themes tackled are love, death and immortality.
