I've been to Alaska three times, the place truly amazes me. The best was when I was aboard a science research vessel for two weeks travelling from Juneau to Ketchikan.

It's off the Turnagan Arm about 30 minutes from Anchorage. Aleyeska Ski Resort is there, and the train to Whittier passes through there as well.

Tidal Bores are in the Turnagain arm, one of only two places in the world where they occur. What happens is since the inlet is shaped like a huge long V, the tide rises creating a single continuous wave as the water's path narrows. It looks like this.
