Does anybody think this book is by far the best book ever written? J.D. Salinger in one good writer.

BackFire349
i read it my senior year, it was good.

Neo_Version 7
Well I read it when I was 12. Junior High. I think its very good how they show nobody really understandsd him.

Tired Hiker
Very good non conformist literature. Just as was, Farenhieit 451, The Crucible, and The Running Man by Richard Bachman.

Neo_Version 7
I'll make sure to look those up TH. Thanx a bunch!

Hypernova
Excellent cult book...

The best ever written is LOTR evil face

Neo_Version 7
LOTR tried cashing in with a sequels even b4 summer movies did. Jus goes to show that history repeats itself.

Alexiel023
I read it... It wasn't my favorite book, because I found it more on the negitive side, and it just wasn't the greatest. JD is a great write, but not for my taste...

Godshinto
It has to be one of my most favorite pay.

I love CAtcher in the Rye!

Holden is so Cute...HE is all innocent and so not a phony !

I almost cried at the end .....I wont spoil the book cuz you guys sooo have to read it ~

Neo_Version 7
It is sad. I cried my ****ing eye-balls out. Holden is kick-ass.

It's on my top favorite book list. But i think books that definetly beat it are

1) 1984(my all time favorite)
2) Animal Farm
3) To kill a mockingbird
4) One flew over the Cuckoos nest
5) Sir Isaac Asimov's Guide to Earth and Space
6)and i think that "this boys life" and "catcher in the rye" tie.

That's my list.

Hypernova
Mine too Happy Dance

cermiestar
i think holden is one of the greatest characters ever created.......

Catcher in the Rye was okay - but I read it after university, and by then I had read so many good books that it was just another good book, it didn't really stand out for me.

I read "I am David" when I was still quite young, and that made a HUGE impression on me.

If we are talking about classic books - "One flew over the Cuckoo's nest" was excellent, as was "Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test." On another note, I have just finished Marilyn Manson's autobiography - and all I can say is "Boy oh boy oh boy oh boy oh boy..."

I always liked what Dennis Miller said about the book and it's author:

"J.D. Salinger released his book, "catcher in the rye" today. He plans to promote the book by disappearing and never being heard from again."

WrathfulDwarf
In my English class back in High School. I had the choice of reading Catcher on the Rye or On the Road by Kerouac. I told the teacher I was going to go with Kerouac.

Maybe one day I'll read Catcher on the Rye.

I could never get into Kerouac - that whole stream-of-consciousness writing thing just didn't do it for me...

Which is a pity, as I really admired his lifestyle...
