NoFate007
You know, I've had Kazaa Lite, and I've been having internet problems so I called my internet service, SNIP, and they said that the RIAA is searching for people, but as of right now its only people that share their files and have tons and tons (like 1,000 and up) songs. Porn doesn't matter, every guy in the world downloads that, lol, the only thing I'd worry about is if you download the illegal porn, cause ya know, its not really legal, haha. But they're starting to lose things, my friend's friend is on their hitlist, and has been for months now and they haven't done anything at all, so just stop sharing the files (if you're not sure how, just highlight all of them and click Share so its off) so people can't really track back to your computer.
dulobast25
it's better to be safe then sorry, besides i like free stuff like the next guy, but its' really stealing. just expect them to treat it like theft and be careful. I wouldn't participate in that anymore, cause this is just the beginning.
NoFate007
One possible solution is as soon as you download a song, to take it off your shared folder and put it onto a seperate one in My Documents or somethin.
happy kine
the best thing to do is stop using kazza. it sucks and put spyware on your pc. try something else. *coughmirccough*
Rhubarb Man
Nah, use Kazaa Lite. Its kazaa without the restrictions and Spyware
skule
It depends on the laws of your country, i think ur in pakistan so i dont know what the law there states about pornographic material. If your thinking from that the US might come after you for porn uhm..dont worry about that bud
The RIAA is going after those who swap large quantities of music on P2P software, but the RIAA has no juristiction to prosecute anyone out of the US for swapping songs. I dont think they also have any say on porno, there is no porno association muhahah, however if ur swapping child porno is a diffrent story, that comes under the FBI
then buddy u got a biiiiiiiig problem if so!!
alic88
nah. i just download sum celebrity por*. not all the time at all. and i have stopped sharing my files. put i m goin back 2 pakistan this weekend. do u think that i am safe in america now. coz my bro lives there and i hope they dont go 2 him.he has stopped.and do u think there is n e effect after i download a song and then delete it after listenin2 it?
Ushgarak
Yes, only the most serious users are being targetted- and you have to be distributing for them to target you. Mind you, if you are sharing and and have downloaded a lot and left it in the shared folder you will be distributing by default.
It is always worth noting that downloading copyrighted material is illegal, but not only is it impractical for them to wade through the many millions of users trying to track each tiny download, they only really care if you are making a huge habit out of it. No-one begrudges the odd tune but there is an entire underground industry pumping out hundreds and thousands and it is the real organised part of it all they are trying to stop. Right now it is only in the US but others will probably follow sometime.
No-one really cares that much about porn, of course, because trying to prove ownership of it is near impossible and the porn industry trying to mount an effort to protect itself is unlikely to be as commercially and publically popular as the music industry!
So yeah, try not to do anything illegal, folks, 'tis the best way. Artists and all the others that work on music deserve to be paid for their work.
Meanwhile, moving this to the GDF.
Tex
I totally stopped sharing my fabulous files!
Moved all my MP3's out of 'My Shared Folder'.
But I'm still downloading babes! Those RIAA hoes aint stoppin me!
Dexx
..what r you kiddin' me? The's only ONE reason i don't like to use kazaa.....and that's called spyware, not copyright or anything else.
about 98% of my whole software cds are pirated. I don't know if i can count 5 original cds among them (well..MAYBE 5)
so..relax.
dulobast25
good luck everybody
Dexx
good luck at what?
hey...we're really the VICTIMS here
..if anyone asks me...i go
"well....i got them off the internet. Didn't say 'nythin bout no copyright there.
"
yerssot
with the same whistle?
dulobast25
good luck and hope nobody gets caught downloading
BackFire349
its not our fault that todays music isnt worth paying for.
Tex
Exactly!
I only buy tunes that deserve to be!
Flavor-of-the week songs I dl
BackFire349
yep, if you wanna blame anyone, blame the lousy bands of today, not our fault they're just in it for the money.
Dexx
yeah....we could actually sue them for making us download the songs we like.
BackFire349
yeah, if the music was good, i would have no problem paying money to listen.
Dexx
well...i doubt the airport controll guy's gonna take that chit chat if he decides to ask...
"hey..what the hell's up with that bag FULL of cds?!?!"
Fire
in belgium you don't have that problem noone cares, I have over 2000 MP3's, but I ain't sharing, I'd get over my upload limit in 5 secs or so
yerssot
oh! Fire! didn't expect that from you!
was thinking in the lines of 5000
Dexx
yeah..romanias safe with that too. not that i wouldn't like to buy original cds...if it would worth it.
Fire
hehe, nha, not that many good songs out there
yerssot
I know, but I was thinking in the lines of "de foute 40"
Fire
no idea what you're talking about
BackFire349
that makes 2 of us
NoFate007
Blame the fact that they boost up CD prices. I'd buy more CDs if they were 11 bucks like they used to be, not when I buy a soundtrack and its 26 + tax.
bigbadbike2
Tex, your such a rebel.
sentinelrv
People get on Kazaa or iMesh every day and download music illegally. Hardly anyone goes to the store anymore to buy the CD. The artists who make the songs aren't getting their money. I've heard that the government or something is cracking down on people who are doing this. They've been catching people somehow and are fining them somehow. I actually didn't even know this was illegal until now. I have to change the way I get music. I've heard of iTunes. You can download the program. They have a selection of hundreds of thousands of songs. You can buy and download only the songs you want for $.99 each, or you can get the entire album. Also, it has superior sound quality. This was good and I was really excited about it until I found out that it is only for Macintosh computers. I'm not going out and buying a Mac. They don't support like 99% of the games that are out. Plus, I don't even know how to use one. Does anybody know if there is another program like iTunes for windows that has the same massive amount of songs for download?
BackFire349
download music from kazaa, just move the music files out of your 'shared folder' and into a seperate one that isnt being shared and cant be viewed.
badkittykitty
..but you didnt hear that from us * wink, wink* we dont down load music or movies or...well you know
BackFire349
i actually dont download music or movies, only porn. there isnt much music i that i find worth listening too.
Baylin
I just buy the CD's... I like buying CD's!
BackFire349
i do as well, if its worth buying, which very few are.
Baylin
I dont know... I've got very broad tastes so I dont tend to mind.
That doesn't mean I haven't had the odd illecit song off the net ...
Dexx
i downloaded TONS of music this summer....but not from kazaa..it's safer.
I too like to buy cds if it's worth it...just today i've bought the matrrix reloaded soundtrack for 20 CAD, and there are 2 cds..i think it's worth it...
(too bads i had already downloaded quite a few of them
)
GroundedAgain
ummm.... i go to kaaza legally. i just got my bill a couple daze ago
Dexx
..what??
badkittykitty
really? I didnt even know they could bill any one.
h0ck3yh0rr0r
a bill from kazaa? did u like register to something?
BackFire349
yeah you can register to use kazaa pro, which bills you however much a month.
Dexx
so what are the advantages?
BackFire349
you wont get arrested if found, i guess... plus i think the quality is better or something, im not sure, im not a sucker so i dont do it.
Dexx
heheh....really man..i don't trust kazaa..that spyware is extremely dangerous. especially for people who access bank accounts from their home pc. Back in romania..i don't have anything important on my pc so i use it...though i can't get much out of it with my dial-up connection
BackFire349
i dont do anything important of my pc, im lazy, but not lazy to the point where i cant make a trip to the bank when i need money, there is no excuse for such a pathetic action (other then being physically handicapped)
Dexx
oh...no, bf...i'm not talking about simply withdrawals....managin your account..it's popular these days..everyone does it. Especially with these credit cards
Tex
Selling songs legally for $0.99 each is highway robbery!
No CD, no case, no booklet, art, record company doesn't have to manufacture/ship, store etc, each song should only cost $0.33!
Dexx
that's why it's better taking them free
BackFire349
oh ok, i gotcha
mah
Indeed true.
I download lots of music, and have no problems admitting it; cause I'm a good customer of the record industry. I buy hella lot of cd's every month, so I don't feel like I'm stealing. I download to check out music..i
shadow link
companies in america are going all out to bring down file sharing sites and try and su people who use them - theyre goig for broke and all
its a big deal
same with these dvds people mysteriously get from taiwan and japan
shadow link

yerssot
"Well, I'm glad you're here to tell us these things!
Chuwie, take the professor and plug him in in the back!"
Fire
I DownLoad everything I need, movies, songs, software, games, books everything I don't give a damn it's illegal.
Altho I also buy all those things
I buy Movies: mostly VHS, if it's really good I'll buy DVD (DLed movies don't have the same quality)
I buy CD's: From the few bans I am willing to support, namely Metallica, Bryan Adams, Bon Jovi, AC/DC, Rammstein and a few belgian bands.
I buy Software: Altho the last I bought was win98SE, Win isn't worth paying for and all the other stuff you need you can find online
I buy Games: The few I think are really worth the money last one was Age of Mythology and C&C Generals.
Books: I buy the ones I think are really good like LOTR and the Books from WOTC (Mostly the core rule books from D&D) all other D&D books I download, no need to pay a big amount of money when I can DL them for free
Dexx
i buy them too...from other pirates ofcourse
Ushgarak
A note- there is NO paid version of Kazaa that makes it in any way legal to download copyrighted material! I don't want anyone caught out by that...
It's all very well justifying downloading copyrighted material in countires with decent copyright law, but it is still theft and companies will be entitled to come after you for it. So play it safe and be legal.
BackFire349
id be legal if the music was worth a damn today. teh majority is just recycled crap to make money anyways.
diegocala
I read the list and saw your name...they are coming for you!
BackFire349
they wouldnt even throw you in jail, they'd probably just fine you or something.
Corran
They've only fined around 200 people I heard, 200 people out of thousands and thousands that have downloaded. Scare tactics maybe.
yerssot
well... works for me
*plays scared and hides behind pillow*
NoFate007
New insight. Kazaa is sueing the RIAA. They say that the RIAA posted "dummy files" on kazaa to try to catch people, which is against their policy in the first place, but second, they're using the program to catch people using the program. Thats like murdering somebody to catch a murderer. This will die down soon enough
yerssot
that's posted in the music-section I think
but the mods should move this one
silver_tears
i dont think that people have been sued in canada i thinks its jus the states
cermiestar
i have kazaa......*looks around scared* they're not going to get me?????
yerssot
they should get through us first, m'lady
yerssot
ok... that had to sound reassuring, guess I'm not good at that either!
cermiestar
no i don't want all the mean kazaa people to coem and arrest all you guys!
silver_tears
not all of us live in the states where they are pressing charges
and i have kazaa lite
yerssot
we'll defend ourselves, cerm
silver_tears
and do you use a stick for that yerss
yerssot
no, I proved that I can do more damage unarmed
silver_tears
really
awww but i miss the stick
cermiestar
stick!
where???
yerssot
no stick, they're not arresting me yet
Fire
lol, won't be long anymore tho yerss
I just have to make a call :P
yerssot
bring it on, I'm up for a fight!
julibug
we pay the .99/month for the kazaa lite. it doesn't make it legal, but it does stop the spyware & ads. we don't download very much anyway, plus we have the "share" function disabled. also, once we download a song, we move it into another folder to be safe. or we burn a cd & delete it. the main reason we use it is when our music students ask to learn a song, and we need to hear it a few times to teach it to them. i still buy plenty of cd's.
Fire
hehe I still don't see the moral problem with downloading music, anything else, I admit is stealing but with the price of CD's these days I don't consider downloading music stealing
yerssot
Logic? you say it's stealing but then when you find out you download, you deceide it isn't?
Fire
no I admit that it is stealing technicaly speaking
but for me personaly I don't consider it stealing
so if someone were to ask me do you think downloading music is stealing; I'd say no
but if someone were to ask me is downloading music stealind; I'd say yes
yerssot
oh, look! a puppy! *runs off*
Fire
there is a difference between what I personaly think and what is actual fact
Ushgarak
Why do you pay for KazaaLite, Juli?
BackFire349
i dont consider it stealing either fire, it doenst embody the spirit of stealing really. we are not taking an actual product of any kind, merely something that is provided to us for a fairer price.
Fire
cause they don't want the ads and the spyware I guess
I just have my virus scan and pop-up killer counter it all instead of paying
Fire
We're just taking something that we would easily pay for would the price be democratic and we are paying for something that is imo actualy common goods
julibug
I wasn't aware of another way to have Kazaa without the spyware & ads, etc. w/o paying the fee. Besides, it was Bryan who decided to set it up that way. I think he was under the impression at first that it made it legal. I informed him otherwise. Should I not be paying .99/month?
Red Texas
Sharing music is stealing, but hell, the corporates steal 75% of my labor every day...
Another_Smithy
Lol, **coughenroncough**
silver_tears
i have kazaa lite and dont pay anything
Fire
ofc not only a sap would pay no offence to anyone
yerssot
*takes no offence since he doesn't pay*
Fire
good
yerssot
I find other ways to annoy you
Fire
darn
yerssot
yes... that's what they all say ... "darn"
julibug
didn't know that was possible.
julibug
again - didn't know it was possible to have kazaa lite w/o paying.
Ushgarak
yes, sorry Juli, you are being had if you are paying for it.
julibug
*sobs*
no fair! well, we paid for one year all at once, or maybe it was two? i won't pay anymore after that runs out.
Ushgarak
Was it maybe a voluntary donation? You say your husband handled it; the people who write these free programmes often ask for donations.
julibug
They called it a "subscription". It advertised it as "no spyware" "no ads" - for .99 per month, but you had to pay 2 years, I think, at once. I can look back & see exactly who we paid, when & how much, but I think it was around $23 or $24. Bummer, huh?!?
Ushgarak
Sorry
http://www.kazaalite.tk/
As you can see, it is free.
julibug
*pukes*
i hate scams!!!!!!! i will go back through my records & find out who we paid.
