WOW, LOOK WHAT I CAN DO!!!!!!!
http://www.killermovies.com/forums/images/moresmilies/starwars.gif
HOW DID I DO THAT??????
....i don't wanna say!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, it has come to my attention that out there, in the big bad world of the actor, there are just some people who when they act, it's like, they aren't even acting, it's like for them....REAL! Now for me, I consider that to be a "Good act." (Good ol' Bob!...It's an inside thing) Anywho, I want to know from you, the movie watcher, who you consider to just be, mind bendingly amazing, so much so, that it's like magic watching them, cause you actually believe them when they are doing it That they are the person they say they are. Who is that actor/actress or both or more for you. Let me first stress I mean actors who aren't acting like they know you know they aren't trying to act if that makes sense, the ones who are just so, extraordinarily natural, to that roll.

I have a small list of my favorites.

1. John and Joan Cusack (any of his movies are good, except The Grifters and how he dies, yuck. OH 10 POINTS IF YOU KNOW HOW HE DIED)
2. Ashton Kutcher COME ON That 70's Show, Dude Where's My Car?
3. Matthew Lillard Anything
4. Chris Tucker (but that's iffy but he's natural how he comes up with the jokes see)
5. Helen Hunt (well sometimes she looks too intense, but she's good, and liked her in As good as it gets.

people who totally go against this I believe, but not in a bad way just seem way too intense sometimes, like they are trying so hard to just be so natural and are, but in a weird way.

1. Tom Cruise
2. Samuel Jackson
3. Cuba Gooding Jr.
4. Molly Ringwald
5. Mackauly Culkin
5. Will Smith
6. Jim Carey
7. Keanu Reeves
8. Hayden Christianson
9. Ben Affleck
10. Jamie Lee Curtis
11. Lucy Lui
12. Leonardo DiCaprio

Now some of those ones from 1 to 12 are kinda iffy only because they always do a good job, but it may seem too good only because they have this presence about them...except Molly Ringwald and Mackauly Culkin both geeky and Keanu Reeves just not great actors. And Hayden Christianson only hurt himself in SW Epi:II AOTC, he was great in Life as a House. The other ones, you should know what I man.

Kes
Angelina Jolie is the only actress I've seen that actually becomes the character.

SaTsuJiN
I'd have to say the same thing, kes, but about Milla Jovovich. She does the slightest emotion changes so masterfully.

The Messenger : story of Joan of Arc is a good example of that.

Kes
Never seen that movie. I chose not to cos I'd just seen a mini series with Leelee Sobiesky (sp) about Joan of Arc and I'd loved it so I didnt want to ruin it by seeing that movie plus Leelee is a great actress so I kinda thought no one could do better then that. But I might rent it now.

johnny_rotten
I think this lot are pretty believable :-

Al Pacino
Samuel L Jackson
Ed Harris
Jack Nicholson (The best character actor there is)

shadow link
russel crowe, especially in a beautiful mind

and laurence fishburn in matrix trilogy

Stuart Larkins
yes yes, that is true, lara croft, the one in the hospital, where she got the oscar?

Stuart Larkins
I agree with you about Al, and Ed and Jack, Sam seems to try a little too hard sometimes.

Kes
Lisa in Girl interrupted.

HannaBananabal
That man in my signature, the legendary Anthony Hopkins. That man can CRY! He's soooo believable in Shadowlands, that he made me cry!

He's brilliant as a murderer too! Hannibal Lecter in the Hannibal trilogy, and Ethan Powell in Instinct! I just LOVE the way he lunges at people, it's awesome!

He's only on a list of MANY fave actors that make me believe they're not acting. Among them would be Shia LaBeouf, that's one hilarious young man. And Ewan McGregor- when someone hits him in a movie, he reeeally feels it, and shows it! Like in Shallow Grave, when the guys beat him and his flatmates up.

lukeyduckey
Al Pancino i can always see his diffrent charcters.
Matt Damon is just pure fantatstic.

*DarkPhoenix*
i have to disagree that Leo Di Caprio is too intense sometimes..firstly in Whats Eatign Gilbert Grape he is really convincing as the mentally challenged brother of Johnny Depp..plus i think it seems really natural when he acts coz it is to him..and there are some really good examples which show that when he takes on a role then he can convincingly become that person he is prtraying and make you believe that he IS that person..such as The Basketball Diaries,Catch Me If You Can,Romeo and Juliet,This Boy's Life etc..then again in some films ill admit it is a little unconvincing but mostly he is IMO the actor of his generation..if not for the roles he takes but for the fact that he can actually portray them convincingly...newayz JMO...

HannaBananabal
The intensity in Leo is what makes him him! He's great!

BOPRecruit 16

5. eric bana (because "chopper"wink

Tired Hiker
Gary Busey is a natural.

Kes
This isnt about fave actors. This is about actors that are so believable that make you think they are the character. Like they are not acting, that they are really like that.

JediHDM
yeah, i agree with Lawrence fishburne, he is great at making me believe...

aniron
okay then.... all the actors I listed are the ones that "make me believe" even though whn you see a movie you know its a movie hee hee

gotta get rich
Joaquin Phoenix(probably spelt it wrong) and Halle Berry

BOPRecruit 16
lauranace fishburne...not really believable in his roles at times.

Stuart Larkins

Jack Nicholson
Anthony Hopkins
Jeremy Irons(although he seems to pick shit roles lately)

HannaBananabal
I just got into Hugo Weaving. Now THAT man can ACT! I'm suprised I never got into him before now!

BOPRecruit 16
i officially think that viggo mortensen and tom cruise are the best actors. their level of commitment to their characters in movies and meeting the demands of a role is amazing. they are hard workers.

Kes
I think Tom Cruise is overrated.

Particleman167
Ed Norton, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, Anthony Hopkins, Ian McKellen, Penelope Cruz, Naomi Watts, Emily Watson

bLooMiLiCioUs
agree with most of them.
johnny depp on the top of the list - for ALL his movies.damn he can make me cry like a baby - and i dun cry easily.just ask any of my frens(not that that's possible thowink) that movie THE BRAVE - dammit i was bawling!!!!and the variety of roles he can play...breath-taking!!!and how he can totally MAKE up his character -pirates of the caribbean is a fine example(i'd give more but i dun think many pl wld know what movies i'm talkin abt) he's not that well known(well b4 pirates anyway) cuz his movies aren't commercialised yeah what totally brought him his fame to THAT generation was edward scissorhands but what REALLY shot him to fame was POTC -his movies aren't famous but they've got FANTASTIC quality and 1ST RATE acting by him. ALL OF THEM.and i REALLY strongly reccomend "the brave" it's not only starring him it's also BY him i just watched it twice and bawled my eyes out at it both times *sniff*

orlando -he's not there yet but getting there -i LOVE the way he portrays legolas -i prefer it even over the books' legolas.but he's not that fantastic -YET.every1 needs experience, even the best actors.we can expect a whole lot more frm him i think.

elijah -variety again - the faculty, lotr, deep impact....but then again sumtimes he looks like he's forever abt to cryblink

BOPRecruit 16
last night, i read an interview at cinema confidential about him. he gave such indepth/insight for the love of his work and commitment to his latest movie, the last samurai. shall i give you the link to it?

Mel Gibson.. he's an incredible actor in my mind...
And Sean Connery is also great...
and Harisson Ford
And Viggo Mortensen
And Elijah Wood
And Michael Douglas
And Sandra Bullock
And Julia Stiles ( besides... shes hot!!!!!!!)

BOPRecruit 16
harrison ford was so funny in hollywood homicide!

Kes
Oh plus the fact that he ruined my most beloved tv shows! Mission impossible.
I'm not saying is not dedicate, I just dont think he's a good actor like everyone claims.

BOPRecruit 16
kes: well some hard working actors all need breaks once and a while.

Al Pacino makes me believe every time...thats why his my fave!
I love Laurence Fishburn because he is good...no doubt about it.
Samel L. Jackson is also awsome...
Johnny Depp...with out a doubt...he has shown that he can act in a comedy as well as drama or action...
Cant forget Maryl Strip...she is amazing with out a doubt..
Michelle Phiffer as well...
Jack Nicholson....

lil bitchiness
AL is awsome....and charming. Devils Advocate he kicked ass!! yes

BOPRecruit 16

lil bitchiness
Oh and i have to mention John Malkovich...hes awsome....and that has nothing to do with me sharing a surname with him...he is just great actor....how good was he in Dangerous Liaisons!

BOPRecruit 16
john makes things funny and random on sets for others, that's plesant. i loved him in the man in the iron mask.

But Al Pacino REALLY makes me believe...hes so good at what he does....if only he was 40 years younger!! big grin

Bubble
Best actors.
1.Johnny Depp-perfect. just perfect.
2.Winona Ryder-she's so dark and moody and it really adds
to her acting.
3.Julia Roberts-great acting.
4.Brad Pitt-GREAT in interview with a vampire.
5.Tom Cruise-great actor.
6.Jim Carey-SOOOOOOOOO FUNNY.
THESE ARE NOT IN ORDER. EXCEPT 4 JONNY. HE'S STILL 1ST ANYWAY. love love

Sugar Kane
Without a doubt, Marlon Brando is (or should that be was?) the greatest actor ever. If anyone here has seen any of his early work, particularly "A Streetcar Named Desire" (1951) or "On the Waterfront"(1954), you will know what I am talking about. I have never, ever seen a more naturalistic and convincing actor than Brando...

Other favourites include...
Johnny Depp- the best actor today- see "Ed Wood" for reasons, although I rate him as an actor, the very nature of the roles he plays means that I cannot rate him in the same way that I rate Brando. In most of his roles- the characters that he portrays means that he cannot be a naturalistic actor- the characters he plays are larger than life...this does not mean however that he is unconvincing- the contrary in fact- he brings these weird and wonderful characters to glorious life and for that, I hold him in the highest esteem!

Sugar Kane
This is a joke, right? confused My little brother always calls Marlon 'Marvin'! big grin

Kes
sick

lil bitchiness
It was a typo...wasnt plyng a lot of attention...it was very early in the morning.

winona ryder did a good job as portraying a troubled girl in little women and girl interrupted. haven't seen that man movies with her in it. of course julia and tom are great actors.

Sugar Kane
A funny typo- it sure made me chuckle... laughing

Darth Vicious
Kevin Spacey- To me he always delivers a great performance, hell make his characters believable, like Virgil in the Usual Suspects to The Life of David Gale and not to mention K-Pax!

Collin Farrell- hes starting to become a great actor
Mel Gibson -always delivers a great performance
Jodie Foster- gives great performances

Kes
The problem with Winona is that she doesnt change.
She has looked like that since as far as I can remember!
But yeh she was good in Girl Interrupted.
I think Julia Roberts sucks! I think she always does the something...which is the character she played in Pretty Women...which is her! And Tom...well he kinda does the same facial expressions that kinda ruin his movies.

lil bitchiness
Meh, im not really fan of Toms...never been..

I do like Leonardo Di Caprio however..i think he is really good...
Meryl Stripp i also like as well as Glen Close...shes amazing in all her films yes

Kes
Meryl Streep and Glenn Close thumb up 2 amazing actresses. Specially Meryl...she is beyond!

BOPRecruit 16
glen close, what was her best movie?

lil bitchiness
For me its Dangerous Liaisons...se was amazing there! But thats one of my favourite films, so i might be bias..confused

BOPRecruit 16
what was that about?

lil bitchiness
You've heard of the film 'Cruel Intentions'?

Well that was a lame re-make of the Dangerous Liaisons....I made a thread about it and no one answered mad

Basicly its set in 18th Centery, and the basic plot is like Cruel Intentions...but its so much better done!! Believe me, the cast is

Clen Close, John Malkovich, Michelle Phfiffer, Uma Turman, Keanu Reeves...and others...
See it, i promice you wont be dissapointed!!

CaptainClaire
Best actors... for me, Johnny Depp - he makes his roles seem so - alive. Also Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt in Interview With A Vampire were great. I like Sean Bean too.

BOPRecruit 16
i loved him in man in the iron mask. he plays historical characters so well, people from the past.

LindsIsSexyK
I really don't see what the big deal is about Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. I think people are just blinded by the way they look so they are unable to see past their mediocre acting skills.

I personally think Kevin Spacey and Anthony Hopkins are the best at truly becoming the part of their character.

Kes
Personally I think Pitt is a good actor, not great or best but good. Way better then Tom Cruise, whom IMO suchs!

BOPRecruit 16
i've recently added jake gylenhall to my list of great actors and make you believe.

I think Sean Penn's Performance in Mystic River really made me feel his pain, although it was only the second best acting in that movie beacause of the performance by Tim Robbins. Just thought I would mention that. For me though, the one actor who makes me believe is Tom Hanks. If I understand the topic right I would assume you mean someone who acts a role and you forget that its even them but rather their character.

I'm rambling.
Son las dos de la manana!

BRANDO.

Tom Hanks is a great actor. Sally Field is a great actress. Meg Ryan...Jack Nicholson... hmm... Viggo had me convinced as Aragorn.
**I'm trying to think of people that made me cry...that in my opinion is great acting...*

crap! brain fart. i 4got his name but the guyu who plays borimir in LOTR made me cry in the scene with his father

I have always believed Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy. Her pain always felt so real to me, especially her tears. After so many seasons, it became second nature for her to be Buffy.

dirtypop
really great actors hmmm...
smg (i hope she can put her great skills to work as someone besides Buffy b/c she was AMAZING)
Maura Tierney (she plays Abby on ER absolutely perfectly)
Claire Danes (esp.as Juliet in ROmeo & Juliet and My So called life
Nicole Kidman
Tom HAnks (so many great & memorable perfomances)
Denzel Washington
Ryan Phillippe ( not just b/c he's gorgeous but b/c i love him in all his movies)
Brad is not just hot either, he has skills
...same for tom cruise - Jerry Maguire anyone?
Eliza Dushku (esp. on Buffy, but she's always believable - shes probably least fitting for her role on tru calling tho - her movie roles have been really great too as far as her acting)
ooooooh Kate Winslet is amazing in pretty much all her movies
and Hayden Christensen chooses such different roles and he is always sooooo AMAZING in the ones ive seen
...
hmmmm there are so many more but i have to go right now...maybe i'll post more later

BlackHatDefect
Jack Nickolson.Perhaps the SCARIEST man alive, but hes also one of the coolest!Every roll he plays in seems so real.I want to take the Shining as an example(i won't even watch the remake because i don't think the other guy can be half as good). He totally kicked ass in that movie..^_^

Princess Re
orlando is a great actor! i beleave everything he does and says,he's my god!

PippinTook
Sean Astin. In my opinion, he's one of the best actors there is (nothing against Billy and Dom, of couse!) I mean, he made me cry in Rudy...and that's saying something, considering I've NEVER cried while watching ANY movie, seriously!....He was brilliant in that movie. He made me come close to crying in Lord of the Rings, too. I just love him to death for his acting. The Goonies was one of his better movies, too. Loved it.

Johnny Depp. Definately. He just seriously turns himself into his character and forgets he's Johnny. He just thinks of himself as Jack Sparrow or Edward Scissorhands or Icabod Crane or any other of his roles. I think one of his best movies was Edward Scissorhands.

Tom Hanks is great, too. I mean, take Forrest Gump, for example. He made his character come to life and that made the movie that much better. The same goes for his other movies, too.

No offense to Dom and Billy.....I've only seen one of their movies so I can't say anything about their acting...Although they were very believable as Merry and Pippin......

Kella
Hey Pip...you need to see Monsignor Renard. Dom was good in that movie. I was totally into it. Good stuff. As for Billy...haven't seen his other movies either.
Orlando is an okay actor...I have yet to see him play a really good role. Of course I haven't seen Troy yet.
Jake Gyllenhaal is really convincing as the dark insane freako...I loved Donnie Darko.
I love Mel Gibson....Braveheart...What Women Want...just to name a few....great actor.
Julia Roberts...I love every movie she has ever made.
Jackie Chan...not the best actor, but I love all of his movies.
I am definitely a Buffy fan. And a Willow fan too. I loved that show. And I loved Angel too. Good shows...quite upset that they ended.
Hmm...I like Raven Simone too. I think she's funny. that's a cute show.
Geez, there are a few more, but it's late and my brain is turning off.

Princess Re
hmmmm.................orlando? lol noone else makes me believe

Kella
hey...do you mean Faramir???? Boromir died in the first movie and other than the extended versions you never saw him with his father. The guy that played Faramir was David Wenham. I loved him in that scene too.
Although I think the truely best scenes in LOTR were in ROTK with Frodo and Sam at the end. They suck me in everytime!!!! I bawl like a baby when Frodo and Sam hug at the Grey Havens. And when Aragorn is like...My friends, you bow to know one and everyone bows to the hobbits. OMG...**SOB** Yeah....movies suck me in. I can't help it.
sad

wow, will anyobody but mememtion someone whos *not*a teenage heartthrob...gomen,i judge people on their acting, not looks/frankly,Orlando just isn't that good.and hes talentless compared to Jack Nicklson(my pick)It see,s like all the not so hot guys are always better actors...well..besides Jonny Depp, but hes been in the buisness a long time..

bakerboy
There are a brithish actor called John Hurt that is one of the best character actors of all time. The guy is just fabulous in all his movie roles, even if the movie isnt so good. He becomes the character in a way that i havent seen before . He was Kane, the first victim of the alien in alien, he was max, the hippie prissioner in midnight express, he was john merrick aka the elephant man, he was reciently in hellboy as the old professor . This guy is has so class and talent that is one of the most underrated actors of all time.

Darth Revan
Russel Crowe is too intense... He was good in a Beautiful Mind and Master and Commander, but other than that... meh.

Laurence Fishburne is great.

Gregory Peck- Atticus in To Kill a Mockingbird. Part of the reason he was so great in that movie is because his character was so much like himself in real life.

Denzel Washington- uh... that one guy... in Glory. Everything else with him is just okay, but he was incredible in that movie.

Johnny Depp- not as good as the other two, but I still like him.

Christopher Lee- to me, he's the ultimate "bad guy". He's great in almost all his movies.

Ladies, hate to burst your bubble, but Orlando Bloom can't act to save his life.

Actors that are overrated:

Orlando Bloom- he's just... bad.
Liv Tyler- she creeps me out for some reason. She talks to quietly. Like at the Oscars...
Elijah Wood- he was pretty good in LOTR, but he's still overrated.
Billy Boyd- same as above. Dominic Monaghan is better than both of them.
Hayden Christiansen- alright, I'll be honest. I just hate this guy.
Natalie Portman- same as above.
Julia Roberts- can't put my finger on it, she just bothers me. And I don't get why everybody thinks she's so pretty either. I think she's downright ugly, personally.

Deathblow
There are three actors who I respect more than any other in Hollywood:

Dustin Hoffman - No one does the average joe better than him; the most likeable guy in the business. Completely and utterly convincing no matter what the role, and even though he's made some bad career choices, he lifts even the blandest movie.

Dennis Hopper - The total opposite to Hoffman. Deranged but brilliant. Again some bad career choices, but thanks to him, I actually semi-enjoyed the travesty of a movie that was Speed. And anyone whos seen that movie will know thats no small achievement.

Robert DeNiro - Colossal screen presence, magnificent sense of timing, can be as intense as a petrol-fire one minute, and distant and casual the next, dominates every movie he's in, the only actor in history to have out-performed Christopher Walken and Al Pacino....I could go on all day about this man.

bakerboy
Some other great actors and actresses:

Jodie Foster

Susan Sarandon

Meryl Streep

Glenn Close

Angelica Houston

Jessica Lange

Sally Field

Robert De Niro

Dustin Hoffman

Jack Nicholson

Al Pacino

I forget Gene Hackman , Willem Dafoe, Tommy Lee Jones, Ed Harris, Scott Glenn, Paul Newman and Robert Duvall.

And a little thing, i dont know how some fangirls could vote orlando bloom as a great actor, come one, the guy cant act. That is ridiculous.

PippinTook
I'll be sure to see it one of these days wink

Amen. The only reason all those fangirls are voting for Orlando is because of his f***ing looks!!! God, it just pisses me off they way you girls can say he's a great actor! I mean, he shouldn't have gotten the role of Legolas in the first place! And I seriously feel bad for Johnny Depp for having to put up with Orlando in Pirates of the Caribbean. Orlando just kind of ruined the whole movie for me. This is a thread about who makes you BELIEVE when they act!!! Not a thread about some damn "hearthrob" that almost every single girl likes just because he has a pretty face. I hate it that practically every teen chick is in love with Orlando. The only teenage girls that I know that don't like Orlando is me and one of my friends. Personally, I think he's one of the worst actors there is. Ugh. I'm really pissed right now....I gotta go...do something...go to the Dom thread or something...eh...

BloomBabyGirl
lol...im sure it didnt,...but to me it did geek

Darth Revan
I can't believe I forgot Dustin Hoffman... Brilliant actor that man. Rainman is one of my favorite movies ever.

Pip> It's refreshing to see a teenage girl who actually has sense about good acting... As in, not saying Orlando Bloom, Billy Boyd, Viggo Mortensen, Liv Tyler, Elijah Wood, and Dominic Monaghan are the greatest actors on earth just because you liked LOTR. And especially that you recognise Billy Boyd isn't a phenomenal actor, despite being named after his character.

Darth Revan
Hugo Weaving is great, but I don't think he's quite up there with Jack Nicholson, Dustin Hoffman, and Johnny Depp.

PippinTook
yes Yup. I am "refreshing," aren't I? laughing out loud

Yeah, I mean, I love Billy and Dom, but I can't really say they're my favorite actors...The only movie of theirs that I have seen is LOTR....Well, I saw Master and Commander, but Billy had, like, three lines in the whole movies, so yeah...

The reason I listed Sean Astin was actually NOT because of LOTR, either. His performance in Rudy and The Goonies was just brilliance, you know? yes Pure brilliance.

BloomBabyGirl
i jst watched the goonies at first i was like hmmm..i know him...

PippinTook
Yeah...I watched it for the first time at my step-mom's friends house on HBO a few months ago and I was like "Hey! That looks like Sean Astin!" stick out tongue

BloomBabyGirl
lol...we're so special

Princess Re
you know...my mum said that he Sean astin is actually VERY skinny in R/L

PippinTook
Well of course we are, my double brilliant friend stick out tongue We so special laughing out loud

He's pretty skinny, yeah, PR. He had to gain almost 40 pounds for the role of Sam. In the words of Dominic Monaghan: "Sean Astin: was fat, now thin." laughing

Princess Re
yeah

BloomBabyGirl
40 pounds! jeezzzz. how longd that take em

PippinTook
No idea. I'd hate to have to do that. Sean's *sniff* so brave *sniff*........confused laughing

Princess Re
umm k

PippinTook
Yesh, I know I'm insane, PR.

Princess Re
yeah but that makes me seem even more insane smile

Darth Revan
yes

Haven't seen The Goonies, but he was great in Rudy thumb up

PippinTook
You HAVE to see The Goonies! That's one of the best movies! Happy Dance

BloomBabyGirl
yes yes itis. its sooo stupid u cant not laff

PippinTook
Are you talking about The Goonies, BBG? confused It wasn't stupid! stick out tongue But it's really funny. I love Chunk. laughing But, then again, I love them all....Mouth...Data...Mikey....all except Brad (that was his name, wasn't it? Mikey's brother?)...He annoys me.

BloomBabyGirl
i loved mouth! and yes...the goonies was on the verge of retardation but IL OVED IT!

PippinTook
"So that's why they call you One-Eyed Willie, One-Eyed Willie." *inhale*

laughing out loud What I think of all the characters: Chunk's the hungriest and funniest, Mouth's just the best, Mikey's got problems, and Data's the Chinese version of James Bond laughing
