Phoenix
I might be anaemic...

Kes
blink Like the blood thing?

Phoenix
yup

Kes
You have to eat better.

Bad Boy
What's anamic?

Kes
Its a blood disease you get from not eating right.
When you pull the bottom of your eye...dont know whats called, it is suppose to have blood at the bottom, be really red, but anaemics(sp) are white, thats the easiest way to see.

Bad Boy
I'm a student! I don't eat right! Am I anamic too. I'm not exactly pale but but not exactly normal either

Kes
"The blood in our bodies is composed of three types of cells (red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets) that circulate throughout the body. Red blood cells contain hemoglobin (Hb), a red, iron-rich protein that carries oxygen from the lungs to all of the body's muscles and organs. Oxygen provides the energy the body needs for all of its normal activities. Anemia occurs when the number of red blood cells (or the Hb in them) falls below normal and the body gets less oxygen and therefore has less energy than it needs to function properly. "

Phoenix
I'm a vegetarian

GambitEVOFan1
smile Its Ok Pheonix its not that bad, i was anemic a few years ago when i was suffering from anorexia but im better now, just eat better foods and see ur doc on a regular basis, theyll tell u what u can eat that will help you get your blood count back up

Kes
Its quite common.
Not eating right is the most common way to became anemic but some diseases cause it too.

Kes
Yeh vegies usually dont eat the proteins the body needs. Cos e meat and fish have stuff you need. You can get it in vegie food too. You just have to know where to look. Go to a food doctor laughing out loud Sorry I dont know the name in english.

Phoenix
nutritionist = food doctor

G.P
bloedarmoede

Note : hehe that's from my fantastic translator stick out tongue

I've also found that http://nhg.artsennet.nl/patbrieven/k5a.htm

yerssot
aaaah! bloody (no pun intended) marvelous GP!

well, I understand what it does kes, but I didn't know the translation

yerssot

G.P
Theoretically, and like many medical words, it is spelled anaemia (hypoglycaemia, ...). The way with no 'extra a' is the American one.

Congrats Phoe ! You're using a perfect English big grin

yerssot

plenTpak52
Geez will you stop trying to be cute in your posts??!!

yerssot

Kes
Yes.

Corlindel
Eat a big blooded steak..and chocolates with red wine...and smoke - tobbaco increases the number of red blood cells.

Phoenix
what has iron in that isn't meat?

G.P
All iron is not equal. A few facts can help you stack the odds in your favour:

Iron in food comes in two different forms. The heme iron in meat, fish and poultry is easily absorbed, whereas the nonheme iron in plant-based foods (vegetables, fruit, grains and nuts), eggs and milk products is poorly absorbed. Spinach or lentil, for example, is high in nonheme iron, but eaten alone, only 1.5% of the iron is absorbable.
You can improve the absorption of nonheme iron by eating it with small amounts of meat, fish or poultry, or foods that are rich in vitamin C. For example, adding meat sauce to a plate of spaghetti or drinking orange juice with your breakfast cereal will help the body absorb the iron.

blakangel
Guinness big grin

Phoenix
it is just that I don't eat meat

Kes
Best thing is to go to a nutritionist (sp).

G.P
Kes is right...

Fire

yerssot
chocolate has a lot of iron in it, no? wink

Phoenix
big grin

Fire
don't care smile

plenTpak52
and having a low tolerance for cold in my hands, does that have anything to do with, well anything?

mechmoggy
Mild steel has a lot of iron in it, not too good for the teeth though I think. wink

Korri
laughing out loud classic!!

yerssot
*flashback to Jaws from James Bond*

Baylin
If your doctor thinks it's a problem he'll probably prescribe pherrous sulphate (Iron) tablets. It's what they give pregnant women if they develop anaemia. They work well so long as you dont mind your poo being thick and tarry eek!
Failing that you could try sucking rusty nails! blink
My fav remedy is Guiness! beer

mechmoggy
Shouldn't that be ferrous?

Oh ignore me, I'm getting all technical. roll eyes (sarcastic)

Phoenix
*hides*

cermiestar
i'm anaemic........they found that out when they took a bood sample from me big grin

Phoenix
I still don't know yet...

Fire
I wouldn't go for the guiness tho, I didn't like it very much when I drunk itq

Kes
Phoe whats taking so long? Its just a blood test not brain surgery blink

cermiestar
if it's on the NHS you'll find out in a few years time.....if you're lucky big grin

Kes
laughing out loud

yerssot
everyone is getting that aneae-thingie? messed

fini
huh?

brown sugar has iron in it............but there are lot of suppelements with 100% of needed iron

And anemia is not only from diet.......some people are born anemic and remain so for the rest of their life........so they have to take meds for it and lots of supplelments.
Even if ur vegetarian, go to a nutritionist and get some professional advice on how to add more iron to ur diet
