while Neo is at "work" before he recieves a change-of-life-phone, what is he looking at on his monitor? its just a blank screen...is he waiting for it to boot up or what? or is he just being stupid and just acting dumb while starring at a blank screen?

he is thinking about his life, and wondering if it can get any more screwed up...oh, wait, Im not Neo...JJ, im not really sure WHY the screen is off...

I never noticed that... All I ever noticed from that scene was the emptiness of his cubicle.

maybe the emptiness of the cubicle and the emptiness of the monitor symbolizes the emptiness in Neo's life :P

It's seems like the emptyness in his life at that particular moment...I agree. His life was pretty meaningless, without purpose, compared to now!
