pablo007

Dagons Blade
Been watching foreign films for years...have no problem with subtitles.

I especially like the Asian films, like Andy Lau's "Full Time Killer" the Thai film "Bangkok Dangerous" and Takashi Miike's lurid Audition. And IFC and Bravo have loads of subbed films at any time.

AND I also have every Japanese Godzilla film from 1954 to the new MechaGodzilla X subbbed in English. My pride and joy! Foreign films rock!

Kes
The original is spanish.
Pretty much all the movies I watch are foreign. Since english is not my native tongue. But last 1 I saw that wasnt english was Amelie (french) its pretty good.

burlyman

Speaking of foreign films, are any of you here familiar with the
"The Venoms"?

The Venoms were a 5 man team of VERY talented actors who starred together in almost 20 martial art films created by the legendary Shaw Brothers studios in Hong Kong, and their initial hit was The 5 Deadly Venoms" aka "Pick Your Poison." I recently got the subtitled DVD and it is FAR superior to the dubbed release I bought a few years back!

Anyhow, any of you in the Asian districts must have heard of the Shaws and their great films they released in the golden age of martial arts.

And the 5 men who played the Venoms were

Kuo Chui-The Lizard
(Kwo Choy in Cantonese)-the most known of them all.

Sun Shien-The Scorpion
Wei Pai (Wei Pak in Cantonese) who played The Snake
Lu Feng-The Centipede
and Lo Mang-The Toad

There was also Chiang Sheng, the youngest Venom, who died like 12 or 13 years ago-drank himself to death. Such wasted talent sad But anyone who is into foreign films, definitely get the subbed versions of the Shaw Brothers martial art films. They rock!

johnny_rotten

ragesRemorse
the original la feeme nikita kicks major ass. I saw the professional before it came to america. i was like 7 i thought it was awsome even though i diddnt read much of it.

loser101
I've seen a fair amount of foriegn-language movies.

not as many as others though.

last ones I saw was a funny french film called "La Placard", and a japanese one (with GoGo from Kill Bill) called "Battle Royale". Subtitles don't bother me.

La Haine is also very good.
La Femme Nikita is okay.
The Ring was okay, the remake was better in my opinion.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is awesome!

mah
Em, yeah, 90%, since they're english speaking with Norwegian subtitles.

yerssot
I think subtitles are an advantage, cause you hear it all smile

LindsIsTightK
The closest thing I have seen to a foreign movie is Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, which I found I didn't like that movie very much.

diegocala
I have seen a bunch of Swedish movies, but most of those sounds translate on their own... eek!

G.P
That one can easily be forgotten wink

BackFire
My favorite foreign movie is Irreversible.

It's devistating.

holdenhsvgtsr
i like thbe taxi movies

Hypernova
I've heard this about this movie before. I haven't seen it myself, but someone mentioned it was... devastating. This was the one with Monica Belluci? I heard the camera work was excellent to achieve the end result, and the fact it was filmed in reverse (not sure if it's the same movie).

burlyman
ooh and japanese anime with subtitles.. totally forgot....

kerplunkymunky
The foreign movies I've seen have basically turned me off to the entire "foreign" genre (that is, non-english-speaking films)- I saw Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and literally fell asleep, and I saw Amelie, which was SO stupid and SO boring I practically exploded. I have no desire to see any more, at the moment...

As my native language is not English, most of the films I saw are foreign. I love Good-Old-PPR-Cinema.
What's more, my dad really dislike American cinema, so we watch French, German, Swedish, Russian or English films together. Specially Monty Python's big grin

tpaquin
I'm a very big fan of foreign films. The best places to see original concepts are overseas or in Horror films.

I can't even imagine why we have a topic on this.

pinsleepe
Which is your favourite one? eek!

G.P
Holy Grail is without a doubt my favourite, but I also like some scenes from "Meaning of life". big grin

pinsleepe
My most favourited one is Life of Brian love I've never seen any better!

G.P
Life of Brian has the advantage of giving a strong message :

"Always look at the bright side of life !" laughing out loud

This movie contains some very funny scenes yes Not all of them makes me laugh because it gets vulgar at some point erm

pinsleepe
Vulgar? I wouldn't use this word.

G.P
Granted, this is a slught exaggeration. They still go too far, on my humble opinion...

maham
