I used to have a dvdaf account.............let me just say this, guzzlefish owns dvdaf in every way imaginable. Just click the "My DvD Collection" link in my sig. It takes you to my dvd list at guzzlefish.com. Look at all the extra stuff that dvdaf doesn't offer.............

There are sooooo many movies I need to get though. My brother has a few great ones, so obviously I don't bother to buy them wink

Guzzelfish runs waaaaaaaaay too slow for me and their search engine is too strict

BackFire
Sorry Evil Dead, but I can't even open your link, it just stalls.

Evil Dead
Dario Argento..........Guzzlefish has the option to search by movies not only by the name (which it is extremely strict on) but also the UPC code which is unique not only the specific movie, but also the specific version of dvd. All you have to do to add a movie to your collection is enter the UPC on the back of the case..........if for some reason it's not already on Guzzlefish, you add it on yourself (just give the name, upc code #)

dvdaf is just a bare bones site to list dvds on.....it doesn't break anything down for you...genre by genre....it doesn't keep up with different stats about your dvd collection........it doesn't estimate value....basically it's the same thing as if you just made a yahoo geocities page and listed the dvds yourself. All it has is the name of the dvd and the picture of it.

Backfire.......ah......sounds like a case of the 56k blues.........many people have that same problem when accessing guzzlefish. I do hear however that the newer versions of IE software (MSN8, AOL9, etc.) have internet accelerators which makes it load much faster. The main page should load fast enough for you.........the problem with my link is that not only is it trying to load a page, but it's actually performing a search for not only my user name but also my dvd list under my name + loading the page........hence the lag on the ol' 56k. Takes less than 2 sec. to load on cable.

Speaking of which.........I had 56k for so long.....recently got cable connection. For all of you with cell phones........do the math. $45+ a month for phone line + $22 a month for ISP (MSN, AOL...some lesser ISPs are however cheaper) = $67. Cable only costs $40 a month........just use your cell, cancel your phone line and get cable......you will be saving yourself around $30 a month.......and the difference will be extremely noticable when you get your cable connection.

BackFire
Heh, I have a cable modem my friend. I've had it since 2000. It's working now, last night the page must have been down or something. It does seem like a nifty listing site, I'm to lazy to change it over to that one though.

Have to agree with Evil Dead... Guzzlefish is the way to go. Would have had no idea about it until I actually paid attention to ED's sig one day and actually clicked on it. It boggles my mind that there are actually people out there who have film collections exceeding $20,000. It's giving my collection a severe case of DVD envy.

Dario Argento
Cool. Didn't know that.

LindsIsSexyK
I'm not saying there is anything wrong with Guzzelfish, I even logged all my movies, cds, and games on there just to see the estimated value. Once I saw that though, I decided I liked dvdAF better because the estimated value is WAY OFF. I think they have my DVDs valued somewhere over $1300 but I have put out MAYBE $650 at the most.

When it comes right down to it, the DVD really isnt worth that much because you could go out and buy it for half the price it is listed as on Guzzelfish.

For now, I like to just keep things simple at dvdAF; nothing fancy for me

Evil Dead
I agree........I don't even really pay attention to the estimated value, it is way off. It's got my collection listed at $8000+........in reality I've probably only spent maybe $6,000.

On the other hand.....it is a collecting site. OOP dvds I'm sure are given a higher value because you can't buy them anymore and are sought after by collectors..............but the value is still off......'cause I've only got like 15-20 OOP dvds, not enough to make up $2000 difference.

I really like guzzlefish because it's compact........doesn't load all the pictures with the movie titles, you have to actually click the movie name to see the pictures..........the site is astheticly pleasing........and because of the genre by genre breakdown it does. Why wade through an entire list of dvds when you only want to know what horror/suspense dvds they have? On guzzlefish you can just click the horror/suspense button and blam.......all sorted out for you.

Dario Argento
It is possible to categorize your movies at dvdaf. I just don't know how.

Evil Dead
I know......

I used to have my horror dvds categorized by themselves at dvdaf.

Basically........you just make a new folder, label it "horror", then click all the movies that you want to add to that folder. It does have a limit though. If memory serves, you can only have 100 per sub-folder. I don't know.....been a while since I used my dvdaf account.

As stated earlier though..........guzzlefish does it all for you. For dvdaf, you have to go through your list and click the movies that you want to be added to the folders you have made and labeled for different genres.

Dario Argento
that doesn't matter to me yet. I only have 60 horror-dvds or something like that.
