well with a whopping 350 million $ movie budget for T3, its just a crazy damn concept that america may be a few billion dollars in the hole which is factual, however there is always hundreds of millions of dollars to be funded for damn dumb ass senseless movies. kind of makes you think about what our priorities are, what do you all think about these damn stars getting paid 50 million dollars for two months work, pampered, paid travel expenses, great learning oppertunities, and become a common houshold name with never actually doing an actuall hard days work in there life. all they want is us to pay them more friggin money.

You know the real magicians, and heros are called doctors and nurses, however they get paid shit, and have to put up with mal practice bullshit all the times. they devote 40 years of theres lives to nothing else than saving lives, then maybe they can retires and live out the next twenty years of there life in bliss, and nurses get paid shit, R.N's get like 20 dollars an hour, bus drivers get more than them, and some damn movie star who's balls havent even dropped yet is set for life, yet the true warroirs of civilization struggle on. to never be re paid, or thanked. what kind of Fuc- ked up world is this. people we need to make a stand to start changing things, or things are really going to go to hell

ahaetrkarykl
thats the way supply and demand works. millions go see movies, so actors and directors etc get paid millions. thats the way our country works. the way to change it is to stop seeing movies. so if you have a problem with it then stop seeing movies, but i for one dont have a problem with movie stars getting paid a bunch. we give them our money by choice, nothing wrong with that. if you want bus drivers to get paid more than ride the bus everywhere. supply and demand

Kes
I agree that some profession should be better paid but I dont agree that a movie star doesnt work hard. Sometimes the traveling around isnt that good, they are away from family and stuff. Plus, at least tv wise, they work long hours. True they are paid waaaaaay o much but dont tell me they dont work hard.

Ushgarak
Absolutely. Money in a capitalist society works like this. It is entirely the fault of demand.

It is the same as sport. People are willing to payvast amounts of money for these populist professions. And if you make it in that profession, you can expect to make a killing- and fair play to you. And as Kes says, it isn't an easy ride.

The public won't put that kind of money into hospitals, despite their conscience, because a hospital does not give you entertainment each day. And my extension nor can a hopsital benefit from tv deals or advertising revenues.

Goodluck trying to change the world...

ragesRemorse
ok if supply and demand is the reason why hollywood has an as*hole full of billions of dollars. That would mean that healthcare and education systems would have even stronger financial standings than anything else. Demand is no more higher than for healthcare and education, infact healthcare in america is falling apart and becomming affortable only to those who are incredibly poor which theyll never have to pay, or the incredibly rich.

Im not trying to change the world, and i know most people know these facts. Most people dont care or they believe that a movie actor who doesnt work a physicaly hard day in his life deserves all the money they get. It's this thinking that allows it to go on. It's the blind eyes every one turns, You can all say im crazy. Look around you though. Turn on the news or read a paper. Look at all those brutal things in the paper or on the news. Those things that are normal to us, things like mass murders, children being kidnapped and murdered., Or even the things that rich and powerfull people are aloowed to say, but a poor person would be arrseted for saying. these things dont effect us anymore they are normal every day facts. Im not blaming the actors and sports stars for making this over abunace of money, id take it to, i'm blaming dumbass society for accepting this

buffymitch
I think Rageremorse is Pissed at the fact that Mr. Schwarzenegger was paid 30 million dollars for a very bad movie. I have to say that that is a hideous fugure for an actor. Kes is right some professions should be paid better. Why pay a very bad actor for a bad movie 30 mil when people are dying, fighting, are not educated etc. etc. . . .

Well what do you think some people are trying to do? Some people do want things changed. The reason hospitals and crap don't get a lot of money due to "supply and demand" is because they don't get the kind of endorsements that the entertainment industry does. And the money that they do get from the people they serve they must put into equipment and salaries and all that jazz. But since the entertainment industry is huge and is international millions of people are putting a relativlty small amount of money into a movie, and all that money added up makes a shitload for the movie.

Hospitals also won't get this kind of money because well hospitals are local, it's not as if there is one hospital in the world that serves all. The more of something their is the less it's worth. And hospitals treat special circunstances...almost everyone loves entertainment but no everyone needs to go to the hospital all the time.

Like Ush it's how a capitalist society works.

julibug
Hmmm, I don't know about you guys, but I can't afford most doctors. $7.50 for a movie, $100 for a doctors visit plus extra fees for any tests, etc. You do the math. Now, I know many doctors don't make as much as a lot of actors, but I don't know any poor doctors. In the area I live in, the doctors and the lawyers are at the top of the financial ladder. Now, as far as the educators, around here they would be considered right in the middle of middle class. Some maybe even on the low-end of middle class. As far as actors and athletes - I think they work hard in what they do, but it is true that they are somewhat overpaid. But all in all, I'd still rather live in a capitalist society than a socialist one any day!

ragesRemorse
doctors dont make as much as everyone would like you to believe. For the next ten years after medical school they live there lives hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt. They have to sacrifice half of there salary to mal-practice insurance. Doctors are constantly being sued. They live there lives on call. Not for about 30-40 years of saving lives every day can they finally retire and live comfortably. Those cars you see them driving, well very rarely can they afford them but are given as a company bonus. Doctors actually deserve the money they make, Nurses work just as hard as doctors and they make about as much money that is at the bottom of your pocket.

Im with every one else when it comes to having to pay a doctor or hospital bill. There incredibly expensive. This however is not the doctors fault. They dont make there prices. In fact doctors do get upset of how much it costs to get healthcare. It's so expensive so we America can keep a decent healthcare program. Its not hundreds and thousands of dollars to line peoples pockets with gold, but to keep the healthcare cycle rotating.

julibug
True. And not to get into a huge discussion over this, but the pharmaceutical industry does not help at all in the situation. I would love to see some serious changes in our healthcare system. By the way, I'm not sure why we have this thread in the movie section. stick out tongue

Kes
True this isnt really about movies.
Moving to GDF.
moving--moved

Tex
You're just like my mom ragesRemorse, everytime she see's a bad movie she always says something along the lines of "they could've given all those millions of dollars they spent to make that bullshit to hungry children". laughing out loud

Kes
Problem is the money isnt wasted its invested.
True there are a few turkeys but normally productions companies make more money then they "wasted".

Tex
I dont think she's too concerned about the profit aspect. Just referring to the notion that its better to spend money on needy children than invest it in stupid movies. wink

Kes
lol Good point.

Ushgarak
I am sorry but where is your logic there that the would have stronger finanical standings? That's nonsense. Supply and Demand is the ONLY reason a purely service indsutry like Hollywood has money. PEOPLE give them that money of their own free will. Get used to it. Plenty of people moan about low-paid Doctors and Nurses but very few are willing to pay higher taxes to pay them more. Whereas people are alaways happy to pay tons for entertainment.

And of course much of this argument seems very US-o-centric, seeing as it costs nothing to see a Doctor in much of Europe.

Kes
Yeh I agree with Ush.Plus here (for example) movies dont cost a fortune and actors, are well payed compare to other professions yes but not like in the US.

julibug
Glad you brought that up. What is your general assessment of the healthcare provisions there? I used to think it was better to pay, and get "immediate" service. I had heard it took awhile to get in to see a doctor in Europe. Now, it seems it's pay alot plus wait forever here in the US, too. What do you think?

finti
ohh really confused

Fire
well in much of europe finti, not everywhere in europe

HannaBananabal
You guys are good at discussions like this, many many good points brought up.

LindsIsTightK
I think this discussion is being based more around the United States supply and demand. Julibug is right, it costs a fortune to go see the doctor these days. I think it's ridiculous how much actors and actresses get paid.
For example, Beyonce Knowles was once paid $300,000 just to go and sit at a fashion show so people would know that she was there. She didn't have to do anything else but sit there and let people take her picture. C'mon now, most people don't even make that much money in a year and she made that much within a couple of hours, I for one, think that is absolutely ridiculous.

yerssot
I caused enough hassle with comments about money the last time, so if people want to know my opinion, ask tex, he remembers it stick out tongue

Fire
hmm who ever told you you had to wait awhile has never been in Belgium
if I need a doctor, a local one or in the hospital it always goes fast enough for me.

Sure my folks and everyone in belgium pays a lot of money but that's just being social, those with money pay for those without money

next step would be to get % taxes, but I fear those will never arrive

Also Belgium can't afford to keep it's current system cause there are gonna be too few ppl working and too many elderly to take care of so I think we will drop a few things out of the social security.

I think that'll be lower pensions and a few forms of govermentaly paid insurance

Fire
True Linds but again that's the way supply and demands works, and it aint just the US it's most of the western world, it shows that the capitalist idea has it's flaws too.

yerssot
think she's refering to england FM

Fire
maybe but still belgium is a part of europe too

yerssot
tja, die mense ginder en hun kenns van deze omstreke is heel beperkt he wink

julibug
Yeah, I guess I mostly meant England, but it's interesting to hear about all of the rest of you! smile

BackFire
When discussing this, you have to remember one simple fact. People are stupid and have their priorities all messed up.

It's too bad that so many crappy movies are getting made that are also so expensive. That money could be put to better use, like inflating my bank account.

ragesRemorse
LOL

royal_jester
Yes I think they could have done something better with that money but hey we need movies right???

ragesRemorse
yeah i just overreact at times and believe that a single voice can actually have an effect on changing the world. I'm back from la la land now. I to endulge over abundantly on entertainment products. I was just having one of those momments where you fly to high anf you realize you have no wings. Shit sucks and shit will always suck. it'll never get better it'll just keep gettin worse, but atleast we have movies to entertain us. and movies will always be, so thats cool i guess. but it's still ridiculous to get paid, 30 million dollers a film . for just two short entertaining months of your life
