Ok we have already had a series of threads discussing who we would like to see become the new James Bond and who we'd like to have as his next arch nemesis but who would you like to see orchestrate this encounter? All suggestions welcome and discuss what you think they would add to the Bond series (i.e. in the sense of there own unique style).
forumcrew
jerry bruckheimer would be ok.. i like him as a director hes good for big mainstream action films.. but id like to see someone a little weirder who could add a unique touch... quinton tarantino would be very cool.. but it would never happen
forumcrew
ahha i just realised i said bruckheimer hes a producer duh!
yerssot
I never look at who directs a movie, so I don't really care
vvvrulz
George Lucas.... haha
forumcrew
how do u nto look? and george booo
Felix L
Well, whether you care or not who directs a movie, it is obviously the single most important person in determining on how good or bad a movie ends up. I think the last guy, Lee Tamahori did a terrible job on the last film, basically turning it into a poorly animated video game in the last 2/3 of the film.
I vote for Doug Liman who did 'The Bourne Identity'. That movie had much more suspense than any recent Bond films, without relying on crappy CGI effects and gigantic explosions every few minutes. I like his directing of great hand-to-hand combat in that movie, which I would like to see more of from Bond instead of machine guns and invisible cars. The old Bond movies had all those great fight scenes, but now it's just guns & explosions.
black_mamba01
We all have to remember that Bond movies are so unique that they are not exactly a massive action flick, sucha as a Bruckheimer film, and niether are they as well-made or BRILLIANT as any tarantino film. They need a director who has experiences making a bond film. I wanna see TERENCE YOUNG again!! lol
yerssot
yeah, I know I should pay more attention to the directors, but I just fail to do so

The Redeemer
The Bond franchise missed it's opportunity by not hiring the brilliant action film director John Frankenheimer - now deceased - to direct a Bond film. His work on his last(?) film RONIN is exceptional. A fine testament to his filmic career.
The Parisian car chase at the end of RONIN is THE best car chase put on film. EVER.

The Redeemer
For a complete reinvention - or re-imagining as it's known these days -I'd like to see what David Cronenberg would do with the Bond series.
Seriously though, and I know I was HALF joking, I'd give Brian De Palma or Steven Sonderbergh a chance. Both have excellent track records in terms of style and making a meal out of the leftovers so to speak. And their films, for the most part, look damn nice too!!!

yerssot
Brian Singer is rumored... the guy who did X-men 1 & 2 and the Usual Suspects
Evy_O
yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay

I like him
MildPossession
Bryan Singer is not going to direct the next Bond, he is busy with other stuff like Logan's Run remake, next Superman movie and so on.
yerssot
that's what I thought too... but in these times of rumors, everything goes

The Redeemer
Dig up Frankie...that's what I say!!!

The Redeemer
Stein.

yerssot
Frankenstein?

oh my, I really don't follow
The Redeemer

Only kidding, old boy...lost ya sense of humour???

I was, of course, refering to the late great John Frankenheimer...

mad 4 it
giv a shit, wot a borin topic, dale winton is a suitable fit 4 the job, haha
bond is crap anyway init, repetative ,borin en not worth the time its taken me to write this post
The Redeemer
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is what you call The Queen's English...Her Majesty must be so proud!!!

Evy_O
den don't come en write posts like dat, which are wastin' your precious time

The Redeemer
Beat me to it again, old girl!

Evy_O
(young girl

)
but your post is above mine... darn

yerssot
didn't Frankenheimer do TV-work mostly?
isn't it:
den dont cum n rite posts like dat, they waste ur time
?
The Redeemer
Frankenheimer...tv work...one's mind boggles...

yerssot
I even looked it up on IMDB TR! they said so

The Redeemer
They??? The Ultimate Mind F*ck #2???

yerssot
what did he show then?
The Redeemer
IMDb = for wankers. I can't stand 'em! Self servient little condescending money spinning pr*cks. I'll set you right with some DECENT film related links soon...
yerssot
but I just wanted to know what he directed

The Redeemer
Right...off my anti-IMDb horse I'm getting...

Frankenheimer did GRAND PRIX, 52 PICKUP and the totally excellent RONIN to name but three...
Don't you read ANY of MY posts, old boy???

yerssot
I do, I just forget them fast... I should get that Ronin
The Redeemer
What's wrong...short memory span...or is it too cluttered with STAR WARS crap???

yerssot
the first unfortunatly
Evy_O
I don't speak that language

yerssot
I just pick up some words here and there cause I hang out with this ultracool group of people

Ahnold
Oi! I happen to go to that site ...
Erm, you DO realise that the IMDB is THE most comprehensive film website in the world, right? If that's not a decent site, I don't know what is ...
yerssot
he would post the link soon
The Redeemer
Hotdogs...IMDb...you really are setting yourself up for it, are'nt you???

yerssot
well, where is your link TR?
The Redeemer
I don't like the tone so I'm keeping it to myself...

Ahnold
Newsflash, Redeemer! Just because you don't like something, it doesn't make people who do abnormal ...
The Redeemer
You gotta do better than that, A*hole!!!

yerssot
hey! no name calling, not even if you joke

Ahnold
That's it!!! I've let too many comments from you just slide The Redeemer. I was trying to be a nice guy about it before; I just wanted to be reasonable and civilised. It's obvious now you don't care about any of that stuff ...
Sorry - but whatever actions I may or may not take now are you own damn fault ...
The Redeemer
This has gotta be the best laugh riot I've encountered since The Austrian Oak was elected guv'nor of Silicone Valley...

Ahnold
Newsflash! I'm not Arnold Schwarzenneger ...
The Redeemer
You just crack me up...!!!

Ahnold
As much as I enjoy listening to you insult me, perhaps it'd be best if we stick to the topic, hmm?
The Redeemer
Oh God...I just can't resist...#...hotdogs, jumping frogs... Albuquerque...#

yerssot
ah come on guys

lets play friendly
The Redeemer
It's all part of the act, old boy...Ahnold's big enough to know taking the piss when he sees it...and vice versa...

yerssot
I hope so

The Redeemer
Jeez...as the late great Kenny Everet once sang... #it's all done in taste...in the best possible taste...#
yerssot
that's what directors (note the topic) say when they want actresses to do a nude-scene
The Redeemer
What immediatley springs to mind is Nicole Kidman's bottom in EYES WIDE SHUT...

Ahnold
OMG - you think I'm acting? When you laugh at someone, demean them, call them a "loser" and an "A hole" that's not taking the piss, The Redeemer; that's just MEAN.
But I digress. We should at the very least try and remain on topic ...
yerssot
see! it's all falling down now

The Redeemer
You sound like a baby...what I said is called OPINION...get used to it!!!

yerssot
you guys aren't even trying!
The Redeemer
I'm resisting bringing out THE BIG GUNS...

yerssot
good thining, keep resisting and get it on topic again
Ahnold
That scares me in every way imaginable ...
And while I would just LOVE to express my "opinions" of you {as you put it} I'm actually trying to be civilised here!
Ahnold
Back on topic then ... what do you think the berg would make of a Bond film? We know he's a fan; that's why he hired Connery to play Henry Jones Sr. in "Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade" ...
The Redeemer
I'm still resisting...

yerssot
was that the reason?

The Redeemer
"Don't make me angry...you would'nt like it when I'm angry..."

Ahnold
Erm, anyway ... do you think the berg would be a good choice to direct a Bond film?
The Redeemer
Don't know the quote, huh?
Ahnold
It's Bruce Banner in "The Hulk" ...
TOPIC
The Redeemer
Well done, A...there's hope for ya yet!

yerssot
I haven't seen the movie lately, so I can't judge
Ahnold
Which movie? Indiana Jones?
The Redeemer
It's also in the tv series with the late Bill Bixby...

yerssot
yeah, any indiana jones movie for that matter

I'll try to squeeze it in tomorrow
The Redeemer
Or try SPIDERMAN...
yerssot
haven't seen that either actually
Raz
Please stop the fighting. I don't want to take this matter any further...
yerssot
but now we were back ontopic, raz

The Redeemer
Give Steven Sonderberg a go at it...or Brian DePalma...two interesting directors that would make a good stab at a Bond film...
yerssot
it all depends what you want the bond movie to look like
Ahnold
I asked earlier - what do you guys think of Stephen Spielberg directing? He's certainly shown he has a flair for directing action and drama ...
The Redeemer
Both have a great visual flair...DePalma sets up some absolutely fantastic sequences like the art gallery one in DRESSED TO KILL and the train station shootout in THE UNTOUCHABLES to name but two...
Sonderbergh can seemingly turn his hand to anything...ERIN BROKOVICH, TRAFFIC and the excellent LIMEY are poles apart but still terrific films...
Both would make an interesting go at a Bond flick...but I'd still like to see what David Cronenberg would do with the franchise...
Ahnold
And don't forget Ocean's 11 ... that was one hell of a cool film. Well, not that Bond isn't cool already ...
The Redeemer
I haven't been much impressed with Speilberg lately...I think he peaked in the '70s with JAWS and CEOTTK...both SHINDLER'S LIST and SAVING PRIVATE RYAN are excellent BUT stuff like AI and MINORITY REPORT just left me cold...
yerssot
I have to agree with TR... the last umpteen movies of spielberg aren't that good

Ahnold
I'll agree with you about "AI" {it was more Kubrick's movie, really}, but I thought "Minority report" and "Catch me if you can" were both superb.
And yerss? In another thread, you said that you didn't think Spielberg would be interested in a Bond film ... but he has said so himself! He stronly considered making one in the mid seventies, and cast Sean Connery in "Indiana Jones" because of it!
yerssot
sorry, I didn't know that

but the 70s were 30 years ago

The Redeemer
BUT the guy's got talent BUT it seems to be wasted in dead end projects...visually appealing maybe but none of that rousing human slant that made JAWS and CEOTTK so great...
Ahnold
But then again, we are speaking hypothetically in any case ...
yerssot
on that note, I found the FX in Jurassic Park greatly overblown
Ahnold
For their time, they were revolutionary though ...
The Redeemer
I really thought Lee ONCE WERE WARRIORS Tamahori would have dragged the Bond film from the doldrums with DAD but no dice...it seems the *copyright owners* have such a grip on the product that no director is going to get any leeway...they may as well have Bob the Builder directing Bond #21...
The Redeemer
Great EFX I thought but a distinct lack of humanity to go with it...
yerssot
but DaD was to purely be a hommage to bond, don't take the movie serious

The Redeemer
Bond is always *series*...

yerssot
but this one was to top it

The Redeemer
Until Bond 21...
yerssot
nono Bond 21 is a normal one again, so they need a normal director

The Redeemer
Er, Engy Benjy???

yerssot
who is that?

The Redeemer
A fire engine!!!
yerssot
not a person? boy, had me fooled

The Redeemer
You're not the only one!!!

yerssot
you fooled yourself or are his movies as interesting as a fire engine?
