Tupac became more famous for his death than his life. He was famous for all of what, a year before he died? Nobody even knew who he was before he signed to Death Row and put out his ONE album on Death Row. Before that he was just some broke rapper with no fan base trying to make a living. The only time you could even see one of his video was at 2 a.m. on BET. MTV wouldn't even play his stuff.....he was small time. Why do people act like he was so great?

he popularity rose considerably due to the fact that his death and the hype behind it. he never worte that much about being wealthy b'cause he didnt have sh-- all at the time.

Mtv didn't shatter to pieces mind you, but his death was widely covered on alt rock radio. So although his death wasn't picked up by the Mtv radar, it did not go unnoticed or forgotten.

#1. I can respect people's opinion............respect mine. I don't think he was all that. I think that alot of people got caught up into they hype when he signed to Death Row. I know he had fans before he became famous when he signed to Death Row, but there weren't many.....which is why his albums weren't going platnum. He didn't have enough fans untill the Death Row hype shortly before he died.

#2. loserib........you remember Tupac in Digital Underground? Great......then you remember he was primarily a back up dancer and not part of the actual rap group. Thanks for your input.

He has been in Westside Connection since '95 (when he formed the group with WC and Mack 10)........their first album Bow Down came out back in '96. plain and simpily. I havent heard any true emotion from 50s lyrics, hes been shot and hes got pleanty of dough and ice, thats all i hear.
Whereas Pac was the first rapper to get me into listening to real music, stuff that strikes feeling. Songs like 'dear mama', 'brendas got a baby' 'keep ya head up', some of his songs even made me cry I think i did when I watched the 'keep ya head up' video.

You cant even compare them. And I always hate it when the media refer to someone as 'the new...'

the answer depends on which tupac is in question. is it the tupac that put out songs with a message like "brenda's got a baby" or "keep your head up," or is it the image conscious, silly ass, corny, death row, "thug life" 2 Pac? if you are comparing 50 cent to the latter, than the answer is yes. that is all the that 50 is, an image. as well as 95% of all the other corny rappers in the industry (don't forget, it is a business). is tupac prolific, i believe so. is he the greatest, i don't think so. but that is only my opinion.

there are other excellent emcees out there, it just requires doing your homework and a little bit of digging beneath the surface.
