Alright,George Lucas has gotten the main shots for this movie, has the full cast, and still has two years to go.Alright so in December/January they should be done with filming. They still have Tunisia and other places they need to re-do scenes which should be done by then. Then January-May with the special effects added. Then he has to put it into the correct format. So shouldn't the film be out in Noverber 2001ish?

Dim
Nope...sorry EJ...May 2002. GL has done the whole May release thing since long before you were a twinkle in your daddy's eye..he's not going to stop now.

theEviljedi
Yeah I know he always does that but he SHOULD be finished before then is what I'm saying.

Dim
Patience young padawan...

big grin

theEviljedi
I am I just wonder what he does about the movie in between that time.

Ratcat
The latest Homing Beacon goes some way to explaining why such along wait.

theEviljedi
And the answer being?

Dim
Digital compositing, animation, FX...etc. That stuff takes a LONG time to do.

theEviljedi
All together no longer then 6 months really.

Dim
Nope...sorry EJ....It's a huge undertaking...

theEviljedi
If they really applied there selves and hire more people they could.I just heard Lucas is worth 2 billion. He can afford a few extra hands. And if they worked 14 hours a piece they could get it down.

Xantos Clone
Funny, but I had the feeling that Lucas was ahead of schedule and for some reason it would not take them as long as the other trilogy...with the advanced technology and all....

"don't under-estimate the force"

Dim
I think the technology can sometimes cause as many headaches as it fixes...Think about what it takes just to get the CGI characters into the film...that can be a huge pain in the but...locking all the CGI characters into the frame and nitpicking to get the movment just right...and they have to do that for what?...like 2000 shots...ARG! And and you have to make sure everything blends together well too...*headache beginning*

King Jedi
I don't care if I have to wait 5 years just as long as they do it right. A lot of the scenes in the OT, like the Jabba scene were dropped because they ran out of time. I'm glad they are taking this long.

Dim
Well said KJ..

Xantos Clone
Yes...I agree...well said....if history repeats itself, ep II will be the best quality of this trilogy(personal opinion)...

I was actually talking specifically about the new digital cameras they are using.....I did hear that it is speeding up the process some...

On the other hand, I would rather GL did not rush anything!!! all good things are worth the wait!

Dim
That's the way I feel XC...

OH! while I remember...have you ever posted in any of the other forums yet?

Ratcat
Trye, Anyone have any idea of the knid of resolutions they use to film, it must be pretty huge to get the quality for cinema.

Jedimaster3838
I do expect EP2 to be better than PM, but it is still going to be a love story, I think that EP3 will be the best of all the Episodes. I will like the darkness(like ESB) and out of necesity will be the best acted. But EP2 will still be fantastic.

Dim
RC..I think I did see it somewhere...I dont remember what it was but I was suprised to see that it wasn't as big as you'd think...I wish I could remember what it was...

I think the 3rd will probably be the best too, mostly because I think GL is still learning his craft and from his mistakes. It will be nice to see what he'll be doing 15 years from now.

theEviljedi
Yeah but now they are waisting time. They all took a break to go to the olympics in Sydney.

King Jedi
That's not wasting time. It's called taking your time.
I thought that the resolution was identical to film cameras?

Dim
I don't know maybe it is? What's film resolution? I would guess that since the film is the end product at this point it is..The CGI(digi mattes and such) are probably higher because they'd want to be to manipulate it without losing the quality, but I'm not sure about the 3D part.

theEviljedi
I know they deserve breaks but not ones that long.I don't know anyone who gets that much time off.

Dim
What make you think they're at the Olympics?

Ratcat
EJ, I am sorry but you are talking out of your ear!!!!!

Filming continued from the main players such as Lucas, Hayden, etc. George Lucas was in Elstree until last Wednesday filming the final scenes.

The Australian studio did reduce operation levels for the duration of the Olympics and with good cause.

1. They are in the host city of the host nation and a lot of people would not want to miss a once in a lifetime opportunity.
2. All new movie productions at the facility had taken the decision to avoid starting filming in this two week period as the city is already a complete circus right now.
3. NON of the Australian crews who didn't go on with the production to other world locations were required.

Filming or Episode-II has NOT been put on hold because of the Olympics. They have completed principal photography. They are continuing now with special effects, sound, etc.

And I'm sure they do take breaks to watch the Olympics ON TV WITH A COFFEE.

God man, these are human beings doing a high pressure, quality job and if the rush it they may screw it up and you'll be one of the first to complain.

They have always stated that this movie will have an extended post production period, it's a highly special effects orientated movie and you can't just knock it together in 6 months.

Special Effects take a LOT of work to get right, try looking into the subject a bit I you will be horrified and the number of man hours that are put on a simple effects movie, let alone something of the calibre of Star Wars.

Ok, I'll stop ranting now and go let my blood pressure drop off a bit.

theEviljedi
Yadda yadda.I still think they could get it down faster

Ratcat
Nice to see you have clearly constructed arguement to reply there. For someonme of your status within this forum I would expect a rather more construct response.

theEviljedi
Such as...?Sorry Ijust came back from school and I'm very tired.

Ratcat
So, I came up with my reply after an extremely long day at work where I was dealing with server designs that the budget of a small South American country couldn't afford.

theEviljedi
Well I had to turn in a signatureto a yearbook company, get ready for football practice and play, and additional problems.smile

Ratcat
So what did you do for the other 6 hours!!!

theEviljedi
At school?Class WORK.

Ratcat
Easy life!

By 10am this morning I'd written a 15 page proposal and started writing up 2 site audits from lats week.

Light Weight smile

theEviljedi
I get up at 5:30 get to school at 7,go to school, get home at 3:45,go on to the computer for 30 minutes, then do homework from 5:00 to 11:00.Not easy life.Dim has the easy life.

Ratcat
6 hours of homework every night, tough school. You beter be a Doctor or a rocket cientist or something when you finally get out of school, but I still want a reasonable answer to my unreasonable rant.

theEviljedi
Honors student.I also have alot of projects and assigments each night.

Ratcat
What you in this year, final of high school or first of Uni/College?

theEviljedi
3rd year of high school.

Ratcat
Is that the last year before college or more?

I have real trouble relating the US system to the UK.

theEviljedi
There are four years of high school.I am in my third.

Ratcat
Got ya, so are you like one of the eldest of youngest 3rd year student? I was one of the yougest so I only just turned 18 when I finished my A-Levels.

theEviljedi
I don't know.I just turned 17 Sept. 1st.

Ratcat
Based on an episode of Buffy the Vampire slayer, I'd guess you one of the eldest 3rd year students.

WHy Buffy, well they were mostly 17/18 on their graduation day.

theEviljedi
Oh.I never failed or anything though. You watch Buffy?

Ratcat
No, didn;t think you had done.

Yes, Big Buffy and Angel fan. Was going to be my next website but all the good domains have alreay been taken.

theEviljedi
Hehe

Dim
I would have never guessed that RC was a Buffy fan..

theEviljedi
Niether would I.

Ratcat
That isn't working is it.

<font face="Arial" size="2" color="#FFFFFF">Never forget that!</font>

Try again. If you want to change the "To contend with...." bit just paste it into notepad, not wordpad or anythinge, just notepad, enit the text without chnaging the tags and then past into prefs as before.

theEviljedi
I want it like yours.

Ratcat
I think it's gettying scrabled in the email anfd the ezboard keeps changing the links so I'm getting annoyed now.

I've just updated the page with the code, give me a sec to upload it, if it says NEW HTML then it';s the new version and you can copy it.

theEviljedi
Thanks.

Ratcat
Done

Ratcat
But I still want a proper responce to my rant!!!

Dim
Well to put it simply...

You're right and EJ is grossly underestimating what it take to put this movie together. I have a feeling we could talk until wer're blue in the face and he would still think that they could just throw it together over night.

I could get into little specific things but will that do?

Ratcat
Sorry, it's kind of an interest of mine, special effects and movie production. Not that I could even begin to imagine myself doing it but I love to read up on how they do things.

It sometimes can ruin a movie because I tend to sit there pulling each scene apart in my head to work out how the elements were put together.

theEviljedi
I know it is hard work but I'm just saying if they really tried they could be done in November 2001.It's just like building a house. You can build one in a month but they don't.It has happened though.

Ratcat
And then they normally spend 2 years sorting out all the problems they have created by rushing.

A team will work on Jar Jar for 18 months just to get him right and he's only one element.

You're not being at all realistic here EJ.

theEviljedi
I'm not saying rush just hire more hands.

Ratcat
There are a finite number of people out there with the skills to do that job. IT's not like the movie world is flooded wuith highly talented SFX and CGI wizards.

That's why ILM get so much work, because they are amongst the best in the world.

You are being very naive if you think anything else.

theEviljedi
I know but it is still possible.

Ratcat
Yes, if you want a crap film. Quality takes time, that why McDonald's don't sell eut cuisine!!!

theEviljedi
What I mean is if they hiring more or pay the others more to work longer hours they could. Not likely yet still possible.

Ratcat
No it isn't. As I said, there isn't a glut of talent out there that they could just "hiring more"

As for work longer hours, these people have lives, get in the real world!

You obviously have no idea of the presures of adult life. That's like saying to Raz, you didn't update you site 3 weeks ago, you could have but you had to take a trip. People have other responsibilities to deal with, for Raz it was a busimness trip, for ILM employees they have families and homes and pets and all the other things that make life worth living.

They do not want to, nor should they have to, sit in there offices working 20 hours a day to rush out a movie.

There was 3 years between ANH & ESB
There was 3 years between ESB & ROTJ

Do we see a pattern here?

Dim
Yep...there's a pattern smile

Ratcat
But we all know that they're just sitting around, on their butts, taking it easy and eatting donuts!!!

Dim
Only on Tuesdays...except for every other Tuesday they get bagels.big grin

theEviljedi
There are still more people throughout the world with thoses skills.Anyway I don't want to continue this conversation.sad

Dim
Okay..topic closed, don't get upset smile

Ratcat
If you say so EJ. So Lucas hires them and pumps a film out in shoty time and then lays them all off cos there no work to do.

It's also a case on economics you know. This does not undermine any of my previous comments.
