Theres a lot of negativity here about PJs films but just think how much Worse it could have been:
Tarantino directs?
Scorcese?
Sauron: Gimme my ring!
Frodo: You want your f***ing ring
Sauron: Gimme my f***ing ring!
Frodo: You want your ring? You want it?
Sauron: You're breaking my balls.
Frodo: Sauron, I'm not breaking your balls
Sauron: You're breaking my balls.
Frodo: Sauron, I'm NOT breaking your balls
Sauron: You're not breaking my balls?
Frodo: I'm NOT breaking your balls
Sauron: Ok, Ok Arrrrghhhhhh
Tim Burton? Man, did you SEE Planet of the Apes? What a disaster.
Or heaven help us all, Spielberg directs?
Frodo's 13
Everything turns out sickly schmaltzy.
George Lucas?
Jar Jaromir introduced
Or the casting,
how about this?
Frodo: Tom Cruise
Sam: Patrick Swayze
Aragorn: Mel Gibson/Keanu Reeves/William Shatner/Stuart Townsend/Ben Affleck
Gandalf: Sean Connery
Legolas: Steven Seagal
Gimli: Joe Pesci/Harvey Keitel
Smeagol: Posh Spice
Pippin: Leonardo Di Caprio
Merry: Judd Nelson
Saruman: Al Pacino/Charleton Heston/Peter O'Toole
Boromir: Bruce Willis/Rober De Niro/ Mark Wahlberg
Some of the alternatives don't even bear thinking about.
I'm sure you can think of even wprse people.
Actually i'd be interested in seeing worse suggestions.
Cheers

By the way, Gandalf WAS supposed to be played by Sean Connery, but Connery didnt want to cuz he said he didnt understand the story

fini
damn he didn't understand the story????????...........hmmm we needed INtelligent types huh
Exa
lol
thats why he also didnt take the part in Matrix, I think...
Connery is cool but would be a TERRIBLE Gandalf... everybody is always frightened of him...
glaurung
I seriously can't think of a worse Gandalf than Connery, awful just awful, and that terrible Indiana Jones Monstrosity he did.
Besides i'd heard tha Jackson's first choice for Gandalf was Tom Baker, but that NewLine vetoed that as he wasn't famous enough.
GABRIEL05
well, umm just cause PJ wasn't the WORST choice doen't mean that the movies aren't slightly disapointing.

i can't imagine a bettea legolas than orlando bloom - steven segal??!!!he wun be able to portray the smooth moves n silent but strong character!!
GABRIEL05
I couldn't help looking at your sig and see OB-session, well I must say obbsessed is accurate, but try fanatic and fixated too. Also you may want to consider annoying, psycho, aggravating
bLooMiLiCioUs
ugh fine whatever u say - my consolation is the fact tt u dun know me well enuf to pass a judgement.
bLooMiLiCioUs
alrite fine - i know tt lotsa ppl find orli droolers real annoying,so now, i solemnly swear not to post anyth abt orli unless the thread is abt him frm now on.full stop.
happy,people?
bLooMiLiCioUs
but that pt abt me not being able to imagine a better legolas still goes...not just for the looks - sorry if it annoys u but there it is....so....

And yet you have a picture from one of the recent Star Wars movies, which presumably AREN'T disappointing?!?!??
I seriously think many people are picking at the movies simply to be contrary.
Here we have a movie made outside hollywood, avoiding the vast majority of pitfalls that such movies exhibit.
Who would have done a better job?
Make a decent suggestion as to who would have done a better job and i'll be pleased to hear it.
Ralph Bakshi? The BBC radio adaptation? I often hear these lauded and yet the Bakshi movie was laughable, and both bear a Gollum more akin to Ron Moody's Fagin than anything else.
If favourite parts are missing, TOUGH, it can't all be fitted in, and in many cases its ending up in the extended versions.
To be honest there's many MANY pages that darn well should be left out as they're unutterable tripe.
If the Aragorn/Arwen romance is beefed up, so what? It doesn't overly interest me, but in the book its so vapid as to be nothing more than a McGuffin, at least in the movie there is some evidence of closeness.
If Faramir dithers and almost takes the ring, instead of rejecting it imediately, again SO WHAT, in the end he doesn't take it, it shows a human side to his character and that unlike his brother he COULD let it go.
That is all.
GABRIEL05
It's not my place to make suggestions on who whould have done a better job. Apparently someone thought PJ was the best choice and the world has to live with that. all I'm saying is in my opinion TT the theatrical version was dissapointing. As for star wars whether they are a let down or not has nothing to do with LOTR
Besides Samuel L is up there cuz Sammy L is a bad@$$ mothah-shut yo mouth
glaurung
Yeah, thought not. Didn't expect anything constructive.
Whatever
Izz
OB-session... Did you know that in our country OB is the main tampon brandname?
GABRIEL05
Talk about constructive eh?
There probably is no point to continue this, considering your capacity for comprehension seems very,.. very low. So I'll just drop it here and now.
GABRIEL05
No sh*t?!? Who'da thunk?!?

pinksuezo
do u really think peter o toole woulda made a bad wizard? i mean with the beard and all? i think he cuda done a good job. heres a good pic (just add a imaginary beard):

Well, what POSSIBLE comeback is there for such an in depth and coherently argued point as:
"Sammy L is a bad@$$ mothah-shut yo mouth"?
I'm just responding at your depth of understanding and comprehension so that you might understand too. Obviously you didn't get it.
Sheesh, what's up there at the top was meant as a joke!
Did NOBODY get it?
Come on!
Surely Posh Spice as Gollum was a giveaway?
GABRIEL05
well now that you put it that way
Unfortunately I wasn't blessed with a sense of humor.
bLooMiLiCioUs
uh-oh
