Where did it go? That's the reason music today sucks! Rock is dead!! Well, for now at least...

"Rock is dead they say. LONG LIVE ROCK"-Pete Townshend, The Who

loserib
heres some rock man check it out they are called bombchiled and the best way i can describe them is good rock and roll

alex90

Is that to much to ask? You can't camplane either. They just say bring somthing in, but there anceint peice of shit Stereios don't play mp3s.Damn!!

GABRIEL05
Man rock isn't dead it's just lost its focus

plenTpak52
well i didn't mean its DEAD, dead, I meant it was simply sleeping.

finti
depends were you look for it

gotta get rich
listen to rap then

Corlindel
Rock send me a postal from South America. He is fine and send you greetings. He will be back soon.

stick out tongue

plenTpak52
Rap is pretty much dead too. It's all the same lyrics with the same beats. Not like back in, say, Tupac's day when all the songs weren't about money and women, and the beats actually involved some thought. The point is, music has taken a dreaded backseat to fame. Hopefully fame will give music the wheel again one day, though.

mah
Interpol, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Tortoise, Mogwai, Ryan Adams, Tomahawk etc. etc. etc.

lil bitchiness
I saw yeah yeah yeahs this year at leeds festival...and they were amazing! thumb up

total metalhead
it's not dead, its just changing, and if you dont like the kind of style its evolved to, dont worry, because rock always swings around after a period of time, and old styles come back. and anyway, all rock music does not suck at the moment, and metal is better than its ever been (in my opinion) and all music, especially rock, evolves with time, so maybe it isnt rock thats bad, its your tastes that are dated.

oh and plentpak, if your a fan of The Who, DO NOT listen to the latest Limp Bizkit single. you will be outraged.

loserib
http://www.bombchild.com/
if your looking for good rock go here and download rollercoaster pain and dont let them pass you by if you want good rock you wont be disapointed

Ikobe
Outkast. I like them, they're sort of rap... or we could settle for funk rock. Hee. Chilis. *eats Anthony*

AI.

plenTpak52
Yeah I've heard its horrible. He did Behind Blue Eyes, right? I heard he even changed some of the lyrics. Luckily I haven't yet heard the single, but already I am outraged. But if you want to hear some REALLY horrible cover songs, so horrible they'll make you sick, listen to the ones New Found Glory did. Actually you probably shouldn't listen to them. The sickening perversion of these songs is so great that you will want to kill yourself.

beaujay1
rock is a classic, but i have to say rap is taking over a bit.

in flames
rap is dead too..look at those rappers making the same song again and again and the lyrics are about the same thing exept for some rappers..rap died with the death of the great ones like Eazy-E,Tupac,Big Pun,Biggie

the good Alive rappers are not around anymore like KRS one,wu tang.method man( i wounder when will he put out a new record its been awhile)

and alot more, look at now days mainstream F*cks that have no talent what so ever..puppets tothere lables like 50 cent, nelly, fa rule

EVEN DMX'S NEW ALBUM " GRAND CHAMP" IS REALLY LAME AND WEAK.i got hooked off with this crap album!

Ikobe
Out of all the half-decent rock bands, a good part of them have been around for ages. Perhaps it's this longevity in the music industry that makes them so good? These bands become ageless, so even in, what, 10, 15, 20 years, you'll still remember them from the 90's and before. It's kind of nice, in a way, don't you think?

AI.

total metalhead
they didnt just change the lyrics. you know the bit in the middle of Behind Blue Eyes where they go into a big guitar solo? well in the Limp Bizkit version they've repalced that with a load of electrical sounds and weird distorted voices sick

and please dont talk to me about New Found Glory, last time they were on TV i had to forcibly stop myself from deliberately falling on a bread knife.

Ikobe
Ah, I think I worked out why; the movie it's for, Gothika, is apparently about a psychiatric doctor person thingy getting possessed by some supernatural force that makes her kill her husband. And stuff. Sounds watchable, personally. Stuff like that (strange noises/voices) is generally linked with the supernatural and surreal.

AI.

total metalhead
still they should have chosen a less classic song to slaughter

Ikobe
Granted. But, each to their own, I guess.

AI.

DemonicGambit
I heard the Limp Bizket remake of the song, I gotta say I liked the orginial way better, but that's jus' my opinion

loserib
me too

plenTpak52
Well I just heard the Limp Bizkit version. uuuugh. The picking pattern is horrible, his lyrics are WAY off, and they should have kept that solo part in. its the climax of the song

el_barto
i realy only listen to old alternative rock like.........blacksabath,offspring,soundgarden,and....well i will think of more later realy all the new music i listen to are the hives rock rock rock rock rock rock rock rock

loserib
black sabbath alternitive thats blasphamy

el_barto
does it look like i care? devil evil face devil evil face

loserib

el_barto
ah ok

in flames

o0tAyLoR0o
nothing happened to rock...

i dont think. i like rock where it is now. at its finest most defenetly.. and im not talking about that gay emo shit..

wicker_man
Rocks just evolving, one of the only genres in the music industry that is actually changing.

total metalhead
offspring arent old!

plenTpak52
WHOA. In no way is rock "at its finest". Rock 30 years ago (Beatles, Who, Stones) is WAY better then pretty much anything today.

Curl_Up&Dye
As far as rock goes, its not dead, it just sold out.
Rock currently lives in a 10 bedroom mansion in a borough near LA with his stripper girlfriend and more money than god.

Yeah, or severe mental disorders....

especially ones that make you kill your husband, and stuff.
big grin

RoseBloom
Naw...rock isn't dead. Its just been asleep for a while. You still got the good ol' fashioned rockers making a stand and showing they are still here.

DracotheDragon
Rock can never die. AC/DC and Metallica will make sure of that. rock

smittenkitten
I surmise that, most likely, it's not that rock is dying...certainly, one could find good rock if one looked hard enough. I think the entire music industry is being turned into this image machine, spewing out vomitus like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Staind, and on and on. It's all about the (expletive) gloss and not about the music. So, the gloss takes over and that's all anyone is ever exposed to, thanks to the like of MTV, VH1, and Clear Channel. How can you possibly find good new music if the television and radio are playing select, manufactured crap-acts? Where do you begin to look? It's sad. It's also sad that people are swallowing it down like it's acceptable, quality music.

-Smitten Kitten-

o0tAyLoR0o
right, to you..

im pretty sure you and me have a way different taste in rock..
and MY opinion on rock music.. is that it is most defenetly at its finest now.

jetspike
the who sucks

Victor Von Doom
It depends what you are looking at. Of course old music is good: we don't remember the 99% of crap fondly.

Lady_Moon
I don't know.....

My favorite bands, or the majority of them, are from the 60's and 70's era, with the exception of the slim margin percentage of others. It's mainly rock however. Those are the goldies I turn to when I want to hear some really classic stuff, but I don't think it is fair to say that rock is 'dead' when all we see ARE the classics. People need to look further and beyond the classic music and see for themselves. You can't just determine and declare that rock is dead if you only listen to the radio. Mainstream radio doesn't play anything worth while. But there are bands and artists that don't get the airplay on big radio stations that are great. Rock is certainly different, but I don't think it's dead.....

It's just hiding in the shadows for you to find it.

plenTpak52
wow you're coolhttp://images.killermovies.com/forums/moresmilies/glare.gif

scabby mcgee
man it's always there, you're just not looking hard enough.

Victor Von Doom
The great bands don't usually get the most coverage, such are most people. It's just that history is cruel to shit music in a way that people that are afraid to stray from the herd aren't.

bardock
some old music is good like gn'r but i dont like some bands like led zepplin and the who. i am not to fond of jimi hendrix either

Darth Sauron
Never again will we see the likes of queen, led zep, GnR, Maiden, Sabbath.

Rock is becoming commercialised

bardock
good charlette or whatever is destroying rock along with simple plan and hoobastank

Darth Sauron
The darkness sick

The rasmus had a good song, but they wont last.

bardock
velvet revlover is doing rock some justice

Df02
rock can never be classed as "at its finest" because 'finest' means different things to different people, i know for a fact that i dont think that rock was at its finest in the 70-80's....because i dont like the style of music, get what i mean....

so really this thread is 1 persons opinion on the state of rock, nothing more

Darth Sauron
Nightwish and BG are flying the flag hugh happy

Victor Von Doom
This isn't true though, even back then, for the 5 bands you named, there were obviously thousands of shit ones. There are still bands of that calibre.

Shadow_King
when did rock die???

BackFire
Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit happened to rock.

Shadow_King
ha ha ha ha ha.well rock will be back but not until the twenties.

Deathblow
Bullshit. Modern alternative rock is much less commercial than Queen and GnR (both of whom were often in the charts). Pop-rock is commerical yes, but thats an entirely different thing altogether, and personally, I don't consider bands such as Good Charlotte and Simple Plan rock at all.

Anyone who says rock is dead needs to move on. There is a lot of shitty bands out there yes, but there are also tons of great ones too. Its always been like that.

Darth Revan
Well put DB thumb up

finti
most bands end up in the comercial trap

Deathblow
It may not be at its finest, but there are plenty of ground-breaking modern bands who are just as good as anything from 30 years ago. Examples:

Nine Inch Nails
Tool
Deftones
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Opeth
Rage Against The Machine
Killswitch Engage
Avenged Sevenfold
Radiohead
A Perfect Circle (who could yet go on to be one of the greatest bands in history)

Darth Revan
But RATM is no more sad cry

Deathblow
they morphed into the biggest disappointment in rock history cry

Darth Revan
Poor Tom and Timmy cry

Deathblow
and Braddy and Chrissy cry they all went from being in great band to a crappy band just like that

ragesRemorse
whoever says rock is dead, doesnt listen to enough music. Rock along with all other genre's of music have just become commercialized. there is plenty of rooted rock bands out there. Of course all this mainstream coorperate rock is garbage and not to mention insulting, but that is just how the music industry works today.
