StarWars.Com updated with the fantastic news that in a large proportion of territories Star Wars Episode-II: Attack of the Clones will be released almost simultaneously within the month of May 2002. And in an unexpected move we will see the release across Europe within 24 hours of the United States, in some case before the United States.

I really wouldn't complain Yers. How many weeks did you have to wait from TPM to come out after the US? I know it was something like 7 weeks in the UK.

What a way to ruin opening weekend

There are now rumors of a pre preview premiere on the 16th of May They often do that in Norway, previews a week before it premieres. Only major cities though. Boy I hope the rumor is true. The source works at the local KinoZ(cinema place) I know this guy so I called him about RC breaking news. He heard the same rumors too about Norwegian opening day, but the word is 16 of May in the major cities. One screening only though so it is gonna be a scramble for tickets. Than God I can purchase them over the net.

Way to go Finti, good luck with those tickets.

Personally I am booking the 16th-18th off of work.

Unless I can find a preview somewhere then I'll take that day off instead.

well, previews are common, but I don't know if they will risk it, Lucasfilm isn't the nicest around (so I won't take the risk here)

Public previews are only ever done with the consent of the distributer normally

Last time, EPI, they filled Oslo Spectrum a couple of times. 8000 per screening. So I think a preview in Norway along with the world release will get its blessings

so I won't take the risk of going to sneak-previews...

I saw TPM two months after it was released in America. By that time I knew almost everything about it. So I'm delighted.

Now why does Austria get to see it on May 16??????? I mean, they have to synchronise it into German and for us they only have to subtitle it???????? Weird weird weird.

BUT.... there is a reason for this. If they release AOTC in Europe on the same date as in the US, then we'd see it first.
And since there probably will be a midnight premiere, I might get to see it at the same time as a lot of Americans who can't get to THEIR midnight showing. So all in all, not bad. Me so happy.

How much of this is to do with stopping bootlegs do you think? One of the biggest markets for bootlegs of TPM, outside of Asia where the problem is rife, was Europe due to the big delay.

This should stop a lot of that.
