i typed in something (8-18) and it converted it to a date (Aug-18)

how do i turn this off?

right click on the cell, the go down to format cells. a window should come up click on the bit on the top that says number then from the toolba on the left selet general....should work

In Excell just use ---> ' <--- before you type something and it will remain as a character.

I use Excel a lot, at work and at Uni. It makes life so much easier than manually calculating tables and such like.
