why are sp many topics down there striked off? what does it mean?

They are closed and you can't reply to them.

Basically to extend on Lance Windu's point from time to time threads are created that are deemed to be either inappropriate viewing material for whatever reason (unsuitable for the forum audience, may cause offense, argument etc) the sites authority figures (known as moderators or admin) will close down this thread in order for the thread in question to be dealt with quickly and efficiently.
