Star Wars: The Approaching Storm
Have you heard about this book yet? It is set to come out January 2002, which is good cause we don't have that long to wait. It is set right before Attack of the Clones. You can read about it at at the link I have provided at the top of this post.
I found this page all by chance. I was looking for excerpts of Star Wars books on audio tapes. Tell me what you think about this new book that is set to be another great Star Wars book.
ToMacco
There is too much crap going on in the books. I'll stick to the movies.
Although I don't condem those of you who enjoy the books.
yerssot
I think there are too much books around...
LanceWindu
I like all of these books. It's fun reading them all because they add to the Star Wars movies where they left off.
yerssot
yes true, but there are a lot of them around...
I heared something about that book now, they don't talk much about it really
Julie
More books means more reading. I love reading. Some of the Star Wars books are better than others, but most are very entertaining. Approaching Storm sounds like a good one to me.
yerssot
depends wich books...
Julie
That's true...I didn't care much for Lando's little trilogy.
LanceWindu
If you haven't read this book yet, like me then click this link to read an excerpt for the second chapter.
Chapter 2
Julie
I read The Approaching Storm. I thought it was very good, but I had to look up a lot of the words. At least my vocab was greatly expanded

LanceWindu
So is it worth buying or just to borrow it from a library?
Julie
I bought it, but I buy most of the books that are new.
My suggestion is read it first if you get get a copy soon, if not just buy it. Also, keep in mind that the AOTC novelization is coming out in a couple of months......so if you have enough money for both go for it, but if not, just wait for AOTC

LanceWindu
Right now I don't have any money. I'm definately going to buy AOTC novelization somehow.
Julie
When does it come out????
LanceWindu
I'll have to go find out.
Julie
ok....hurry back now

Julie
It'll definitely come out before the movie...I'd guess mid April, but I havent actually spent effort looking.
LanceWindu
I don't know where I'll find it. But after this post I'll go search for it. I'll be back soon.
Julie
Barnes and Noble says March 2002......and so does Amazon....
BTW, Rebel Stand is supposed to be published in June 2002

LanceWindu
Everywhere I went says the AOTC novelisation comes out April 22. And Rebel Stand comes out sometime in August.
Julie
I hope your right on the Aotc date, but I hope I'M right on the Rebel stand date
Thanks for looking.
LanceWindu
OK, has anyone read The Approaching Storm yet? If so, is it good? I just checked it out from the library. Is it worth reading?
Julie
The approaching storm was a worthwhile read.... it was a bit difficult at times b/c I had to keep looking up words in the dictionary, but the story was good.
I don't want to say too much and ruin it for you, but I enjoyed it. I'd give it a 8 out of ten

LanceWindu
Ok cool. I didn't want to read too much until I got word about how god it was. I'll really start to read tonight.
Julie
I'm glad to hear it.....did you like Cloak of Deception?....The Approaching Storm is much better that COD.......though that wasn't bad

LanceWindu
I thought that Cloak of Deception was good. But they didn't show enough of Obi-Wan. It was a good prologue to TPM though.
Julie
It was alright, but Approaching Storm was better. You should read it ASAP....note have a dictionary ready.....
It was quite humerous at some points

LanceWindu
I'm halfway through and I haven't needed a dictionary yet. It's easy to find out what the words mean. Just look at how they are used in a sentance.
Julie
I could have done that, but I wanted to be thorough. I wrote down all the words so that I could have them for future use

LanceWindu
I got slow on my reading this weekend. I went to a friends and didn't bring my book so I couldn't read it for three days or so. Then I started to fall asleep yesterday when I was reading. So tonight I have to make up for some lost time.
Julie
definately.....get off the comp and start reading!

LanceWindu
I only like to read at the end of the day though. Like before I go to bed.
Julie
That's usually when I get to read, but it's really not the best time of the day to be reading b/c I'm tired by then.....on the other hand reading is very relaxing...
Star wars books are particularly dangerous to read late at night b/c I never want to put them down

Ushgarak
It's a DREADFULLY cliched title. Monty Python was taking the piss out of all the things that used gathering or approaching storms as titles back in the sixties, and people are STILL at it!
Hardly a critical comment on the book, I know, but I felt like saying it... I think ADF could have come up with better!
Julie
The book was good despite its "dreadfully cliched title"
it's ok Ush, you are allowed to voice such observations

LanceWindu
Just 2 chapters left.
Julie
Well get on it

...... do you like it so far?
LanceWindu
It's pretty good. They seem to attract too much fighting though.
Julie
There's political intrigue there too

LanceWindu
Well I forgot to tell you that the other day I finished the book. It was pretty good.
Julie
Which was your favorite part?....I thought the thing about fighting everyone at once was kinda neat.
LanceWindu
You mean when they fought both sides of the nomads and didn't get any of the soldiers hurt?
Julie
Yes, that part...it was short yet interesting

LanceWindu
Escpecially the part where Anakin thinks about killing the nomads, but he tells himself not to so he doesn't upset Obi-Wan.
Julie
I don't remember that specific part, but it does sound like a particularly interesting scene...very emotional.....
LanceWindu
Yes but it goes by too quickly.
Julie
Ah yes the length issue of a very potent scene....one drawback....I guess it can't all be perfect, but I wish it were so.
LanceWindu
I wish the book was longer like Star by Star was.
Julie
Unfortuately, not all Star Wars books can be as blissfully long as SBS
*sigh*
Such is life....Is SBS your fav NJO book?
LanceWindu
It was pretty good. It advanced the story a lot and dropped the bomb on Anakin and Coruscant.
But so far my favorite would be Rebirth
Julie
Why...I don't even know if I could pick a fav...I loved Rebirth but Rebel Dream is also very good...SBS was excellent, DJ was great...I just couldn't pick one
What a lovely predicament

LanceWindu
I know. Rebirth is just barely my favorite.
Julie
What's the runner up?
Julie
I think Rebel Dream is my current favorite, but that may be just because I finished it about an hour ago

LanceWindu
It's still fresh in your mind then
Julie
Yes, it was really good, so good I might even read it again...I was tempted to do so with DJ and Conquest
LanceWindu
I'd read it again.
Julie
I did start it again, but I think I'm gonna spend all of tomorrow writing so I won't read or be here....
LanceWindu
Oh.
When I first got Conquest I read it two times in a row. Much like you are doing for Rebel Dream.
Julie
I'd contemplated doing that with Conquest....it was a really really good book....but just never got around to it...when all the NJO books are out...I'll read them again

LanceWindu
that is most definately the best way to go
Julie
How many more NJO books are there supposed to be?
LanceWindu
Wasn't it shortened from 25 to 20 or so? If 25 the 14 to go. If 20 then 9 to go. I hope its 14 to go.
Julie
yea let's hope so....I could read them forever....I think
LanceWindu
I wonder if they'll ever expand the series to last even longer. Like as long as the Emipre lasted. That would be really cool.
Julie
Why not just start a new series on the side.....
Julie
I don't know.....but you know how they are ending Jedi apprentice and moving on to stories about Boba Fett and Obiwan and Anakin.....they could write a new series after NJO......that'd be stretching it but it could happen...the best idea would be to keep NJO going for another 10-15 years

LanceWindu
Maybe they could skip some years in the NJO if they would go for that long. Then at the end of the series BEn Skywalker is a full fleged Jedi and he gets his own series of books.
Julie
They could start a series w/o him ever getting much NJO time....but it would be best if he was a little involved b/f they start a spinoff series.
LanceWindu
You know that YJK was made when not many books of the twins were out yet?
Julie
I think that's part of what made them so great....for me at least they were one of the first Star Wars books I'd ever read, and I immediately liked the characters...so it's fun to see them in NJO now b/c I know a bit about their characters.
LanceWindu
The first book of Star Wars I read before YJK was the abridged version of Shadows of the Empire
Julie
I don't think I ever read Shadows of the empire, but I played the video game...and then returned it

LanceWindu
There are two different versions of the Shados of the Empire book. One is only about 200 pages then the other is like 300 something.
I read the small one first then I started to read the next one and I got bored with it. Even though it's a good book.
I just felt I had read it before. Probably because I pretty much did.
Julie
So you'd recommend reading the long one first?
LanceWindu
Umm, yeah because the other one was more for kids who can't sit and read as much as we can.
Julie
poor them

...they don't know what they're missing
