Unicorns are very magical creatures. The hairs from their tails/manes are often used in the center of wands. They appear to be normal horses at first glance, but they have a a twisting horn jutting out of the top of their heads. Its very evil to kill a unicorn, its said to jinx you. They bleed silver blood. When or if a unicorns blood touches your lips, you become like, a half soul, or a cursed soul or something. They are more comfortable around girls (probably because guys are insensitive). They usually live in groups.

Western Dragons.
Phisiology:Thick, long bodied, scaly skin, four strong legs, two bat-like wings, wedge-shaped heads, and long necks. They usually are portrayed as breathing fire. Some breeds of these dragons have been known to be shape changers, and others have the chameleon power to change color of their background. They are sometimes displayed as having a spade or spiked tail. They eat but once a month on a sheep or ox, or even a human (myth says they prefer virgin maidens). They can be any color, or many colors, depending on the breed of the dragon.
Hist:When most people think "dragon" they most likely think of the Western dragon. Western dragons are usually portrayed as evil, mean, and bloodthirsty. They were also known to have huge hoards of gold and jewels hidden in their lairs. The most famous dragons are portrayed as Western-type dragons: St. George and the Dragon
, Beowulf and the Dragon, and Draco in the movie DragonHeart. Some stories have the western dragon as the Devil in Christianity. Other stories in legend say that eating a dragons' heart will give the consumer the power of understanding birds, eating the dragons' tongue enables the person to win any argument, and rubbing the dragons' blood on skin will protect against stab wounds. Another myth references Vlad Drakul to mean Son of the Dragon, or Devil. The end of the dragon came with Christianity, and knights that were eager to prove their faith. The knights quickly discovered that dragon-hunting was very profitable, and soon most the dragons in the world were destroyed in a very short time. Vikings had dragon figureheads on the prow of their ships. The dragons on the ships were believed to endow keen site and cunning to the Viking warriors. Today the Welsh flag still has a red dragon on a green/white background, and the red dragon is their national symbol.

Eastern Dragon
PHYSIOLOGY: These three species of dragons look very similar, but come from different parts of the world. They all have sinuous serpentine bodies, have four legs, they do not usually breath fire, usually shown not to have wings, but are illustrated to have them which is the Adult Imperial Dragon. The dragons are said to be made up of many different types of animals of the Earth: the body of a snake, scales of a carp (fish), head of a camel, horns of a giant stag (deer), the eyes of a hare (rabbit), ears like a bull, a neck like an inguana, belly of a frog, paws like a tigers, and claws like an eagle. Most of the time they are shown to have a lion-type mane around its neck, on its chin, and on each elbow. They have two antler-type horns decorating their wide-mouthed head, and two long "feeler" whiskers spreading out from their snout. Eastern dragons have 117 scales, 81 infused with yang, the good, and 36 infused with yin, the bad. This evens out the dragons temper and personality.

There are three families of Eastern dragons: 3 toed, 4 toed, and 5 toed. Three toed dragons are Japanese. Four toed dragons are Indonesian or Korean. Five toed dragons are Chinese. They are shown in the colors blue, black, white, red, or yellow. Oriental dragons are usually shown with a pearl in their mouth, under their chin, or in their claws. This is apparently where the dragon gets its power, and how it ascends to heaven. Roasted swallows are the Chinese dragon's favorite food.

HISTORY: In China dragons are known as Lung. There are four main kinds of Lung: Tien-lung , The Celestial Dragon: who protect the places of the Gods, Shen-Lung, The Spiritual Dragon: who control the wind and the rain, Ti-Lung , The Earth Dragon which control rivers, and water on the Earth, and Fut's-Lung , The Underworld Dragon which guards precious metals and gems. Separate dragons control the rivers of the North, South, East and West. The commander of all the River Dragons is Great Chien-Tang who is blood red, has a firey mane, and is 900 feet long.

Eastern dragons are portrayed as good, kind, and intelligent. Oriental Dragons have the most recorded history in the world, especially in China going back thousands of years. In history they have a very close link to the weather. It is said that some of the worst flooding in Asia's History were caused when a mortal has upset a dragon. In Chinese history, the 5 toed dragon is the symbol of power, and are considered "Imperial Dragons". Long ago, it became law in China that only the Emperor could have a five-clawed dragon displayed on his robes or illustrated on anything the Emperor owned. It was usually a Yellow dragon, thought to be the most superior of all the colored dragons. If someone other than the Emperor was caught wearing the symbol of the 5-toed dragon, he was put to death.

Red_Drake
Faerie Dragon
PHYSIOLOGY: Very small dragons, being only 1'-5' long, any color, with large eyes, and large butterfly-type wings. These dragons are vegetarian as they only eat fruit, vegetables, nuts, and so on.

HISTORY: These are the rarest of all the dragon, as only a few have ever been reported. Some myths might come from some large butterflies that are around the world. It is said in legend that these dragons sometimes carry faeries from city to city. Since only a few have ever been seen, the history of these types of dragons are next to none.

unicorns are very beautiful magical creatures. They are gold until they are 2 years old, and then they turn silver. Their horns are often used for potion making. Unicorns tend to like grils better than boys and are more likely to let girls near them. Unicron blood allows you to live forever, but you will live a cursed life, because it is a terrible sin to slay something so pure as a unicorn.

Giants

Giants seem like overgrown humans that grow to about 20 feet tall. There used to be various races of giants which differed depending on the place where they had lived, though most were driven into the mountains. Most use to serve He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, killing Muggles but most were killed and the rest fled. There still exists those willing to follow You-Know-Who, still holding grudges against those who killed their race, but the rest seemed to have decided to live peacefully. They have been found in several stories already, most were evil indeed, though more like evil to humans, but there still existed peaceful ones knowing that there was no need for violence.

Dragons are the one of the most amazing magical creatures in the world.Dragons are terrifying and awe-inspiring as they take wing and breathe fire. Muggles remember them only as beasts from mythology, which is a credit to the ongoing efforts of the Ministries of Magic in many countries who work tirelessly to keep these huge beasts hiddin.

Jasmine walked into the classroom quite confident. She loved animals in every different form, as long as they were cuddly and furry!

House-elves are small humanoid creatures who inhabit large houses belonging to wealthy Wizarding families. They are "bound" to the family of the house, which means they do all manner of menial tasks for them until they die. House-elves are apparently very happy with this arrangement and consider it a matter of pride that they serve faithfully and do not betray their families.

A house-elf is a short creature with large bat-like ears and enormous eyes. It is difficult to tell the difference between male and female house-elves, although the female generally has a higher, squeakier voice. Both male and female house-elves do not wear clothing (and would consider it shameful to do so) but cover themselves in towels, tea cozies, or pillowcases. If their owner gives them an article of clothing, it breaks the "enslavement" and the house-elf is free. For most house-elves, this would be the ultimate insult and they would be shamed forever.

As Dragons and Unicorns were by FAR the most popular, the nex few homeworks will concern those two magestic creatures!

"Everybody knows what a dragon is: an enormous, fierce, bloodthirsty creature appearing in fairy tales and legends as an accessory whose main function is to set off the bravery of knight challenging him. The dragon is an obscure, mysterious character, described in broad terms, and is little more than foil to enhance the hero's valor.

Dragon is a legendary beast in the folklore of many European and Asian cultures. Legends describe dragons as large, lizardlike creatures that breathe fire and have a long, scaly tail. In Europe, dragons are traditionally portrayed as ferocious beasts that represent the evils fought by human beings. But in Asia, especially in China and Japan, the animals are generally considered friendly creatures that ensure good luck and wealth.

According to some medieval legends, dragons lived in wild, remote regions of the world. The dragons guarded treasures in their dens, and a person who killed one supposedly gained its wealth. The English epic hero Beowulf died in a fight with a treasure-guarding dragon.

In China, the traditional New Year's Day parade includes a group of people who wind through the street wearing a large dragon costume. The dragon's image, according to an ancient Chinese belief, prevents evil spirits from spoiling the new year. Another traditional Chinese belief is that certain dragons have the power to control the rainfall needed for each year's harvest.

However the dragon is something else. He is admirable, intelligent and educated creature, who leads a most interesting life. He has some fascinating characteristics in addition to those occasional glimpses we are given through fairy tail and legends.

In the world of fantastic animals, the dragon is unique. No other creature has appeared in such a rich variety of forms. It is as though there was once a whole family of different dragon species that really existed, before they mysteriously became extinct. Indeed, as recently as the seventeenth century, scholars wrote of dragons as though they were scientific facts, their anatomy and natural history being recorded in painstaking detail.

The naturalist Edward Topsell, for instance, writing in 1608, considered them to be reptilian and closely related to serpents: "There are divers sorts of dragons, distinguished partly by countries, partly by their quantity and magnitude, and partly by the different form of their external parts." Personifications of malevolence of beneficence, paganism or purity, death and devastation, life and fertility, good or evil. All these varied, contradictory concepts are embodied and embedded within that single magical word.

The dragon has always been slandered and misjudged, persecuted and hounded by man, simply because they are different. Like so many other living beings, he has experienced death and persecution in the name of so-called superiority of civilized man.

Perhaps, in the future, man will learn with the death of a single animal or plant species an irreplaceable asset - something more precious than all the wealth in the world - is lost. Only then will the Earth continue to be a brilliant blue jewel in the universe, for in its heart will be locked the priceless treasure of the diversity of the species, and man will have recognized his duty to cherish every single one."

Please research, name and give a brief description of three types of Dragon

Red_Drake
{Well alright my fave mistical beast was chosen big grin i'm so happy big grin}
Pernese Dragon

PHYSIOLOGY: These dragons have four legs, and two wings. They have smooth, leathery skin without scales. The dragons eyes are compound and faceted like a fly's that can change color depending on the mood of the dragon. They have a telepathic abilities with other dragons, and their rider. Pernese dragons can also teleport into "between", which is a void, to escape danger. Gold and green dragons are Female. Bronze, brown and blue are Male. They can breath fire by first swallowing a certain type of flammable rock known as Firestone. Read more about Pernese Dragons.

HISTORY: The colonists of Pern (A world created from the stories by Anne McCaffrey) genetically engineered these huge dragons from their small cousins, Firelizards. Pernese dragons and their riders have a life-long relationship, this is started at the Impression. This is when the dragons hatch and choose their human partner. If the human partner dies without the dragon, the dragon will go between permanently. If the dragon dies, the human usually wastes away until they pass on.

Drake : Drayk (Hey it's my name big grin)

PHYSIOLOGY: This is a Western-type dragon with only legs and no wings. There are two types of drakes, Fire and Cold. FireDrakes have the breath of flame, and are usually reddish in color. ColdDrakes have the breath of snow and hail, and are usually white or light bluish in color. These types of dragons do not fly, they look like large lizards being about 4' - 40' long.

HISTORY: This dragon has links to the Western dragon in history, but no solid history has been produced. Sometimes young western dragons are mistaken for drakes because of the lack of wings until they reach maturity. In Europe there are many cities named after this dragon: Drakeford, Drakeshill, etc.

Amphiptere : Am-fih-teer

PHYSIOLOGY: These are dragons with only wings.

HISTORY: The most famous amphiptere is Quetzalcoatl (kwet-zah-coat-al), the winged and feathered serpent god from Mexican history. Scientists think that the myth of Quetzalcoatl started with a bird, the Quetzal. This bright green bird has tail feathers of over two feet long, and when it flies, the bird looks like a shimmering serpent
(well since the last Dragon specie was a little small explanation Drake decided to put some more to get the teacher to like him big grin)

Wyvern : wi-vurn

PHYSIOLOGY: These are dragons which have two wings, but only two legs. Sometimes shown as having claws on the wings, acting like another pair of "hands". The Wyvern is sometimes depicted as having a razor sharp stinger filled with poison on the end of its tail.

HISTORY: The history of the wyvern seems to come from Europe. The history of this dragon is not so clear, it seems to be mixed in with the history of the 4-legged dragon. Wyvern's have been depicted in heraldry on shields and banners for hundreds of years, and is considered a sign of strength to those who bear the symbol. One of the more famous wyverns is Vermithrax in the movie DragonSlayer.

Drake Faydark, Ravenclaw

A massive TEN points to Drake! I believe you've just put Ravenclaw in the lead!

Faerie Dragon
PHYSIOLOGY: Tiny dragons, being only about 5' long, any color, with large eyes, and large butterfly-type wings. They are vegetarian.

Eastern Dragon
PHYSIOLOGY: They have sinuous serpentine bodies, have four legs, they do not usually breath fire, and most don't have wings, but Muggles draw them with them. Most rare of the large type of dragon, since, because of their lack of ability to fly, have a certain territory which they keep to.

Western Dragons.
Phisiology: Wide, long and scaly. These dragons are supported by four strong legs, two bat-like wings. They have wedge-shaped heads and long necks. Almost all are firebreathers. Some(although very little) are shape changers, and again a very small number have chameleon-like power.

Lindworm

Lindworm are small, european dragons with no wings. lindworms are large and eat meat.
there are german tales of lindworms, but the famaousest tale of lindworms for muggles is the klagenfurter lindworm. klagenfurt is a town in austria. in klagenfurt is a monoument of a lindworm, made by urlich vogelsang in 1590. the people said they could hear it roar during thunderstorms. But also the Lindwurm itself underwent a metamorphoses: The oldest city seal shows a two-legged, winged dragon in front of a tower. This image was used at least until 1609. But towards the end of the 16th century the idea of what a dragon should look like changed. From then on dragons used to have four legs, and the city-arms of 1669 show that type of Lindwurm. However, the Lindwurm of Klagenfurt was never depicted without wings.

Chinese Dragons(Eastern Dragons)

Dragon occupies a very important postion in Chinese mythology. It shows up in arts, literature, poetry, architecture, songs, and many
aspects of the Chinese conscience. The Chinese Dragon, or Lung , symbolizes power and excellence, valiancy and boldness, heroism and perseverance, nobility and divinity. The dragons have to be energetic, decisive, optimistic, intelligent and ambitious. Unlike the the negative energies associated with Western Dragons, most Eastern Dragons are beautiful, friendly, and wise.

however they were put into differnet types...
Those guarding the gods and emperors
Those controlling the wind and rain
Earthly dragons which deepened the rivers and seas
Guardians of hidden treasure
The first dragon

There are differnces betwenn the chinese and the normal dragons cuz the chinese are able zto fly without wings, shape shifting abilty and so on. (Muggles draw them often with wings)

She lays the stack of parchments on her desk and keenly looks over it before handing it in to the teacher.

Types of Dragons

Flying Dragons
Flying dragons tend to only fly at night and when in flight are often confused with condors or eagles. Seeing them from the ground is not an easy task since they are incredibly good at changing their colors and blending in with their surroundings. It is believed that their wingspan is only a mere 10ft, if that and they only fly in groups when migrating. Flying dragons are found primarily in once-volcanic mountainous and tropical places. When it is not migrating season they tend to behave like the larger, flightless dragons and stay in caves, volcanic craters and deep mountainous canyons.

Wyvern
A creature with two wings and two legs. Often the Wyvern is shown with claws on the wings and having a sharp tail tipped with poison. Wyverns are sometimes called "dragonets" in England because of how closely the resemble dragons. Wyverns typically live in caverns which are readily identified by bones and jewels sprawled about.

Amphitere
Amphitere's originate from Mexico and have only wings.

Water Dragons
These dragons tend to spend most of their lives in the water (usually freshwater lakes with outlets to the sea). They sometimes migrate when the lakes freeze over and are fish-eaters. They are depicted with having a long neck, small head with lots of sharp teeth, and paddle-like legs used for maneuvering. The most famous water dwelling creature is the Loch Ness "monster."

Sea Serpents
Sea Serpents live only in water, fresh or salt, were once confused as being gigantic squid or huge masses of sea kelp.

Flightless Dragons
Mostly found in the Caribbean or Mexico, they are not known to be aggressive or vicious towards humans. They live in water-filled limestone caverns. Flightless dragons are thought to control the onset of summer and can produce rain.

Basilisk
A basilisk is reproduced by its own kind, rather than a rooster laying an egg and it being incubated by a toad, like the cocatrice. This creature has no legs, instead it slithers about on the ground. With a red-scaled body (upper portion) and a crowned head, the basilisk is a strange sight. Deadly and cureless is the basilisk's poison and with just their gaze they turn things into stone. The only way to destroy a Basilisk is to trick it into looking at itself (through a mirror), thus turning itself into stone. There are, however, three things that are immune to its gaze and noxious breath. The weasel, the rooster whose crow sent basilisks running, and rue, a plant which nullified the breath (eaten by the weasels to heal themselves). The basilisk, king of serpents, is thought to be confined to northern Africa and western Europe, just like the Cocatrice.

Cocatrice
The cocatrice is very similar to the basilisk. So similar in fact that the cocatrice is the result of the metamorphosis the basilisk under went in the Middle Ages. The cocatrice has bird-like legs, feathered wings, and wattles. It still has the scaled body and tail, however. The cocatrice is the child of a rooster (only a rooster) and is hatched by a toad or serpent. The Icelandic equivalent is the skoffin.

Drake
Drakes have legs and no wings. Fire-drakes, which breath fire and are a reddish color and Cold-drakes which breath snow (cold stuff) and are a light blue color are the two types of Drake. These dragons do not fly and their size ranges from 4'-40'.

Naga
Nagas are strange creatures with a snake-like body and the head of a human. They are sometimes thought to be able to morph from full human to full snake. Nagas do not have wings nor are they considered harmful or dangerous. For more information about Nagas, check out Naga: The Serpent.

Although Edward like Professor Diande and the Creatures they got to work with, he dislike doing his written work. However, his best friend Jasmine had convinced him to do a good job for once.

Antipodean Opaleye
The Opaleye is a native of New Zealand, though it has been known to migrate to Australia when territory becomes scarce in its native land. Unusually for a dragon, it dwells in valleys rather than mountains. It is of medium size (between two and three tonnes). Perhaps the most beautiful type of dragon, it has iridescent, pearly scales and glitterin, multi-coloured, pupil-less eyes, hence its name.

Peruvian Vipertooth
This is the smallest of all known dragons, and the swiftest in flight. A mere fifteen feet or so in length, the Peruvian Vipertooth is smooth-scaled and copper-coloured with black ridge markings. The horns are short and the fangs are particularly venomous.

Romanian Longhorn
The Longhorn has dark-green scales and long, glittering golden horns with which it gores its prey before roasting it. When powdered, these horns are highly valued as potion ingredients. The native territory of the Longhorn has now become the world's most important dragon reservation, where wizards of all nationalities study a variety of dragons at close range.

Ukranian Ironbelly
The largest breed of dragon, the Ironbelly has been known to achieve a weight of six tonnes. Rotound and slower in flight than the Vipertooth or Longhorn (see above), the Ironbelly is nevertheless extremely dangerous, capable of crushing dwellings on which it lands. The scales are metallic grey, the eyes deep red and the talons particularly long and vicious.

The Griffin-

The griffin originated in Greece and has the front legs and head of a giant eagle, but the body and hind legs of a lion. Like sphinxes, griffins are often employed by wizards to guard treasure. Though griffins are fierce, a handful of skilled wizards have been known to befriend one. Griffins feed on raw meat.http://www.adirondackscenic.com/images/griffin.jpg

"here's something more I found Prof. Diande"

The oriental dragon is seen as being wise, intelligent and quite often magical. Some dragons were considered to be able to control natural elements such as weather and natural disasters. While most Chinese dragons were seen as being either good or benevolent, some dragons were seen as evil or aggressive, and were sometimes blamed for natural disasters or poor crop yields. It has been said that many of the great disasters in Chinese history have occurred when a mortal has offended a dragon, however most dragons were seen as protectors. In Hong Kong, there is a belief that 9 dragons inhabit the waters of Kowloon, keeping the city safe from harm. Wearing a dragon on your person is considered good luck, and many people wear dragon charms for this reason. Some dragons are pictured with a pearl under their chin or sometimes holding it in its claws. This represents the 'Pearl of Wisdom' that many dragons are seen as possessing.

Almost celestial in nature, the Oriental Dragons are both mystical and spiritual. Many of their characteristics can be found in-groups of nine, a number the Chinese consider to be very lucky. For instance, there are 81 scales running down the dorsal ridge of their backs. There are 9 types or sub-species of Oriental dragons.

The Horned Dragon
The most powerful of the Oriental Dragons, also called Lung. They can produce rain are totally deaf.
The Winged Dragon
The only flying Oriental Dragon.
The Celestial Dragon
Believed to support and protect the mansions of the Gods.
The Spiritual Dragon
Generate wind and rain for the benefit of mankind.
The Dragon of Hidden Treasures
Keepers of concealed wealth.
The Coiling Dragon
Water dragons who live mostly in the lakes of the Orient.
The Yellow Dragon
Who emerged from the water and gave the Emperor Fu Hsi the knowledge of writing.
The Dragon King
A group of dragons that individually rule over the four seas divided by the celestial directions, North, South, East and West.
These Oriental dragons can be found in a variety of colours. Of the three Neodracos these are the most colourful. Reaching up to 40-50 feet in length, their scales shimmer silver, blue, green, red or combination of all these. Like the European and American dragons the Oriental dragons are primarily nocturnal. But this breed of dragon does venture out in daylight hours, especially in spring.
