First of all I have watched all of the first one so I am entitled to have my opinion.
X- Men was just completely terrible in the way of showing off the good original cartoon and comics(Evolution is also bad). The dialogue is mind-numblingly boring, the set pieces, scenes and special effects where not really impressive to say the least and the casting was awful.
That guy who played Cyclops had absolutely no screen presence to pull off a part that definately required it. Like Tobey Maguire in Spiderman he looked like he was just about old enough to legally drink milk and wear a bib.
Halle Berry as Storm was totally a misdirected casting as she also did not fit the image of a kickass mutant (She fries Toad and makes a mist... what a part!)
Hugh Jackman as Wolverine I just couldn't take seriously enough, he just didn't have that Wolverine attitude(or mask-total mistake because I loved the mask); he just walked around like he was miffed at something and occasionally getting his claws out.
Mystique in the comics and cartoons is a central figure in the plot, in the film however she's a naked , scaly, ugly, blue thing that runs around and holds no apparent influence in Magneto's plans.
Sabretooth was just a long-haired rockstar(with fake hairy eyebrows....ewww) in a long, brown coat who growled every so often and apart from dying did nothing of any importance.

wow thats a lot of reasons why you hate it haha but i think most people hear might disagree with you so dont be surprised if you get a few people annoyed :b

i agree with alot of your point, but i still liked the movie, the story was good, it was a film of x-men so thats cool and it starts the comic film industry!

I agree that there was a lot of mistakes but i still like it. Interestingly though if you look at the X-Ray Jean Grey took of Wolverine's retracted claws they stop at the wrist so Logan's hands should be locked in place

I can understand some of your points when looking back at the original animated show and even the comic books, but its not possible to cast near identical look alikes to the original characters so obviously things have to be changed. Your point about mystique, the film was never meant to be a carbon copy of the originals, just another view on the x-men universe. And remember it was only the first movie, they couldnt have some all out spectacular sequences, they needed to introduce characters and put the start of character development into place.
About the mask, did u really wanna see hugh jackman with the original yellow and black mask, resulting in the original costume to keep the design throughout. Hugh Jackman in a bright yellow spandex suit, not exactly what u want to be seeing on screen. If the original designs had been kept it would have looked like a cheap comic book movie rip off and the movie would have failed completely.

I never mentioned anything about the yellow spandex, I just mentioned the mask should be included on Wolverine

The mask would have to be leather, Wolvie would be a gimp Ha Ha Ha

Fair enough you never did mention about the original costume colours, just a mask. One thing leads to another and i was simply stating a point of view from my side of this. Nothing more.

"a mask made of leather.." how hot and how uncomfortable would that be?? and if you think.... that hugh jackmans face is so whimpy and fat but looks fit cuz of his facial hair....and its pretty ugly... how uglier would it be if they actually made a mask made of leather??? it really would mess the whole character big time....

Fair enough that you disliked the film, and you are entitled to your own opinions but y give us all an essay telling us how bad it is when no 1 really wants to kno? People in the X-men forum like talking bout how good they think X-men 1&2 was and what they liked about the characters. Every1 likes some1 different which is good, and bring variety to the forum, but your post could have been posted sumwhere else. All you needed to tell us was:- I didn't like it.

okay so now i speak so:

i wouldn't really dare to consider x1 or x2 a GOOD movie, cuz good movies usually are the ones that have a PLOT... twas really fun watching x1 and x2, and laughing my arse out while yelling 'die b*tch! or 'awwwwwww how dramatic' but yeah, the main problem was that the dialogues were TOO DAMN dramatic and didn't actually make any sense, so i just laughed at the characters's poor grammar and lame lines... but it had good special effects and was kinda funny and i liked some of the actors (pyro, wolvie, magneto especially). i just adore to laugh at the fake dramatism in movies, which OF COURSE doesn't make them actually GOOD movies, but they're fun to watch oh god i think i'm repeating myself and not makin sense... i'll end here

I agree with some of the casting. Cyclopse could have been better indeed. As for Storm I think its more the way here character was made then the actress herself but.Wolverine in my opinion is the best cast, I think Jackman nailed it.
The changes in the characters, like Mystique are acceptable, it would really look stupid if she changed with clothes on or if she had to take her clothes of to change. And watch the 2nd movie to see how important she is.
The movie had a small budget (for a blockbusted) and the shooting time was shortened (it was suppose to came out at Christmas and it came out in May!)

The other thread was closed because the member that started it (Alic I think)actually ended up seeing the rest of the movie and enjoyed it. I closed it because ppl were replying as if he still did not like it.

Oh and has for the mask thing...in the 1st movie I can say that Wolvie doesnt even have a suit. The one he is wearing belongs to Cyclopse, (thou the strips are yellow, that a mistake). Now he doesnt have a mask in the 2nd either so that excused has to be ruled out, the movie is made from a serious point, dispite the mutant thing, so a mask would be really lame.

Then you go off and attack evolution, have you ever watched saturday morning cartoons? It was very good for what it had to work with. I would rather see it at as rated pg-13 or pg. Have you seen the filth on Saturday mornings? Mucha Lucha, Pokemon its just rediculous. I liked X-men Evolution it was a pretty good show. What did you not like? It was a kids show.

Evolution did indeed do better than most morning cartoons but Juggernaut and Sabretooth looked really really crap. And I got to go with Shadow on the casting, the movie was great but only the prof was casted correctly

I think they only didn't include the mask because they foreseen the kind of Hugh Jackman pin-up type thing. Because it's quite obvious he's adored by millions of female fans so wearing a mask half the time would detract from that.

So It's perfectly alright to go and start off a thread about a film you like but when you wan't to post about a film you dislike you can't for fear of your ideas being rejected by other people. Sometimes it takes some one else to highlight the real problems within a film, someone who is not just liking it because it's called X-Men. If I said 'I didn't like it 'and then just never gave any reasons then I would have been slaughtered. The very fact that I gave an argument proves I've watched it and thought about enough to say what I said.

I can honestly say I didn't like it. It didn't really engage me in the way the X-men originals did. The introduction of really pointless characters; Spike, Toad , Avalanche, the Blob( Wow..... he's incredibly fat....what a power) etc. The voices were annoying, the theme tune was gay, Wolverine with that orange/black combo, Sabretooth just looked completely laughable with his appearance(but then again it probably was styled off the movie). I've seen the way they've chewed up Gambit and spat him back out as this weedy freak of nature so I generally don't care for it much.

P.S. I'd rather watch Pokemon than X-Men Evolution.

1) What reason would there even be for him wearing a mask? Apart from 'because he wears one in the comics' The movie isn't going along with the comics, they are just being used a guidelines.
2)A mask would look bad on screen because you can't see hugh jackmans facial expression which tells us a lot about a character
3)A guy running round in a leather mask? Come on, how stupid is that. So uncool.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of a movie, and bringing a reason to this forum is perfectly okay. However, the only flaw I see in posting this thread is that you are obviously starting it to piss people off. If you want to wax philosophical about something and argue a point to the bitter death, join a debate club. If you have something intelligent to say, then start a thread.

Erm, not really. B.Singer gives an explanation to Jackman in the "making of". " I couldn't contrive a reason for a mask...and then your mask is over your face, so now you're really a masked man running around this movie and the audience says...and if you've ever seen the movies with ... when Batman has his mask down it's all about being hidden, the character (...)you deprive it of a lot... You don't realize it until I started visioning you wearing a mask for the third act of the movie...that sort of thinking...What's that about ? Who are you ? Darkman ?Who are you hiding from ? (...)The X-men could come up with an excuse for you to wear a mask, but these things, the masks and the wingsand all that, were just designed by drawers and painters to create a sense..."

IMO its a very good (the best) comic book adaptation and its entertaining.

What do you mean shallow? The story for the 1st could have been better,the Magneto machine thing is kinda off.
But I think the movies actually have a good message.

yeah the message is good, it's like racism really... but my mates and i were just laughing at the lame dialogues...ye must say that those speeches and dialogues in x2 (especially) were extremely LAME... but again most of the people don't search for any message... they see, like: uh huh, they're kickin their arses and that gal/guy is HOT!

The only lame sentence,IMO, is Storm frog/lightning in X-mem. The rest sounds natural to me.

the lame sentences: the whole jean/logan scene... it kinda reminds me of star wars, episode 2... 'i love ye' 'i can't be with ye' BOO HOO... the main problem in the movie was that some scenes were just TOO DAMN DRAMATIC

That Logan/Jean scene was kinda cheesy. It was like the ending of spiderman or something.
