Artemis Fowl.
Twleve-year-old Artemis Fowl is a brilliant criminal mastermind. But even Artemis doesn't know what he's taken on when he kidnaps a fairy, Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon Unit. These aren't the fairies of bedtime stories. These fairies are armed and they're dangerous. Artemis thinks he's got them just where he wants them, but then they stop playing by the rules...

One of the most interesting, quite funny books i've read so far. By Irish writer Eoin Colfer, it's an amazing book where the main character is not the hero but instead the evil genius. It's really good. Has anyone else read it if not i think that you should, it is just a great book.

Yes, it's really clever! I read the first one while waiting for HP5 to come out. I've not yet read the 2nd and 3rd yet (English books are really expensive here). I really liked the twist on the Leprechaun idea!

The second and third book are fantastic, honestly i recommend them.

Ive read the two books, theyre not bad, not as good as HP and Hitchhikers guide to galaxy. I thought they were a bit too......unrealistic?

A bit too unrealistic? It's a fantasy book, unrealistic is the image you want to get.

I like it, Die Hard meets Harry Potter to me. I also heard they were debating to make a movie of it.

I think it would be great for them to make a film about Artemis Fowl. I wonder who they'd get to play Artemis and Holly. Also Butler, that would be interesting don't you think.

Just got the world book day AF pretty good it fits in between the 1st and 2nd book.

I got it when it came out. Its not really worth getting its only about 50 pages long and doesn't actually go with the story. Its set somewhere btween the first and second book and Artemis and Mulch meet, but that doesn't make any sense because in the second book Mulch has never seen Artemis. It has a very sweet ending though also it was only 1 pound so it wasn't that bad really.

only 1 pound? can't have been very good then. very few books are that cheap and still good.

He brought it out especially for world book day. It wasn't that good and it was only about 50 pages but it wasn't that bad either like i said it had a sweet ending.

A really nice ending Artemis' plan is actually to make him mum happy so in my opinion its a very sweet ending.

I just want to know how many people know about Artemis Fowl cause it's one of my most favorite books. And do you agree with me when I say, I think that Artemis and Juliet are a great match(i know how old they are alright...?)

I just got the first book out of the library and I'm finally reading it! So far it is excellent, but I find the character Artemis a little confusing -- one minute I hate him, then I'm sympathising with him, then I think he's an arrogant little boy!

he's irritating, but at the same time he's brilliant, which is also irritating.

Basically, in the second and third book, Artemis becomes friends with Holly, and they team up together and help each other their missions.
The movie remains a mystery.

I read somewhere that Artemis won't go into serious relationships in the future book(s), but he would have one or two crushes!

i read somewhere hes writing a 4th book and its called the opal deception and it will come out summer 2005 im not sure where i read it just kinda found it surfing the net

in the second book, holly helps artemis get his father back from a russian mafia or something like that. in the end, they become ALMOST friends. holly even gives artemis a small gift to remind him of STUFF. in the third book, artemis gets in trouble with a guy named jon spiro, if he doesn't do anything the people will get in trouble. also, butler died in the third book then was revived by holly, but he aged a lot, since butler can't come with thier mission, Juliet is the one who protects Artemis. am i forgetting something....hmm.....Artemis thinks his dad has gone kookoo....and....what else....we find out that Butler actually has a name.....oh and, mulch diggums becomes important to Artemis, oh and, the people erased Artemis' memory of the past three years i think. that's all i can say.

i know when i was reading the last book i got the influence that he started to like holly but then he got all mean again so im pritty confused

no one really knows for sure if there will be a movie right? all i know is miramix is planning on starring cameron diaz as holly.a magazine here in the philippines said that there will be a movie, but i can't really be sure since they got the info from a HARRY POTTER fan site. it has to be official for me to believe it.

They both sound COOL, don't they? and I think it was Kirsten Dunst who was rumored to be playing holly, not Cameron Diaz, but I could be wrong, in my opinion, nether of them would be good for holly, but I don't know who would

i really can't see either of them as Holly. doesn't suit them at all.

I'd go with... uh... anyone who can beat up people while 3 1/2 feet tall and green...

As to Artemis Fowl in general, I liked the first 2 books more than the third, and only didn't like the 3rd one because Butler is my absolute favorite character, along with Foaly, and Juliet kinda bugs me.

Let's see, the Artemis/Juliet combo doesn't work for me. They're both around the same age, she's basically a cross between a 16 year old guy (loves violence and ultra cheesy professional wrestling) and a 20-something secret agent (3rd dan blackbelt in 3 or 4 martial arts, plus the rest of the training stuff. And she's named Butler), while he just acts like a 45 year old all-knowing jackass.

And for the record, Artemis isn't arrogant, he's just very good at assesing of his own skills. And never letting you forget them...

or course he's arrogant. he just isn't stupid at the same time

Opal is from the 2nd and fourth book, shes a pixie who out smarts Foaly and trys to take over Haven city.

For the record, Foaly's smarter than she is, but he got killed by his own arrogance. He and Artemis are just kinda cut from the same cloth, I guess. Except Foaly was from the horsish half of that cloth...

not sure about that. Foaly was kinda arrogant, but it wouldn't be his undoing.

That's how Opal trapped him in his own sanctum, he kinda got lazy with his security. But he ended up outsmarting her, he found out how she monitered his actions and got messages to Artemis and all that.

I like these books very much. Only thing that is disturbing me is Artemis becoming more and more good in every book.

He's not... or at least at the end of it. At the beginning, he was almost his old bastardly self, but then he got his memories back and was all goody goody again. I'm pretty sure they're done with mind wiping him too, and he's leaning towards quitting the whole criminal lifestyle. Artemis Fowl is officially a good guy, ladies and gents.

nothing wrong with that. I kinda like him better that way, though it's rather fun having him as a villain.

KRC: What's next for you? Will there be a Book 5 in the series after THE OPAL DECEPTION (which releases on April 20, 2005), and is there any update on the Artemis Fowl movie that's in the works?

EC: I am working on book 5 at the moment. It is tentatively called THE LOST COLONY. As for the movie, the studio is hoping to get a director and cast this year, so fingers crossed.
