Well frankly I'm disappointed how Sam has not been mentioned.
from the very beginning Samwise Gamgee has helped Frodo and from then has stuck by his side, The ring would not have been destroyed and Frodo and middles earth would have died without him- WELL DONE SAM!!!!!!!!!!!

no....if not for GOLLUM it wouldnt have been destroyed, frodo claimed the ring.....and there was not a thing sam could do about it, still love the guy like

yeah but if it wasn't for Sam gollum would have taken the ring, or a nazgul, and even Faramir but his speech made him have a change of heart and I quote: "WELL DONE SAM!!!!!!"

Sean Astin just showed how loyal Samwise is, I mean the books he didn't strike be as a very important guy but in the movies, argh, he's so sweet and adorable. He's the only one that Frodo could really depend on and at the RotK ending in the Grey Havens when Frodo gives Sam this look that seemed like he's trying to say, "You understand, my dear Sam..."

And would it be better if Frodo actually ended up giving Bag End to Sam and Rosie???

The look between Sam and Frodo when Frodo is hanging over Mt Doom did it for me. You could see that Sam understood that Frodo wanted to just let go but he wasn't going to allow him to. I hate it when Frodo puts on the ring at Mt Doom, the look on sam's face breaks my heart.

I know, and I think sam should have got a special invitation to the undying lands too because after all he sacrificed his life to stay with Frodo, he could have gone home or carried on under the protection of Aragoorn, and the big hug at the end of rotk -weep weep-

Actually I think having Andy just rip off his hair while Sean was having a bad day really helped the following scene where Sam is giving Frodo that look when Frodo said they were going to follow Gollum on the other path into Mordor.

It was just the right moment man, it was perfect! And when Sean walked off the screen Elijah just turned to the camera and made this face like 'uh oh whoops'

then laughed hehehe

ha ha and then adny sirkis thought he was in a REAL MOOD with him and was oike "right then fine" and was moody with him ha ha ha ha they must have had so much fun on lotr NO FAIR.

Sam....he's a great character and I hope people don't think that he's an inferior to Frodo to see as Frodo is his 'superior' which it's not like that. Sam has this great bond with Frodo well because A, he's his gardner, and B, they've been through so much. Make me wanna cry.

Sean showed so much emotion in his role of Sam and after the movie when i read the books again i thought that sean portrayed him perfectly. never have i seen an actor do so well at a supporting role. never has an actor made me cry in a movie. sean is absoulutley awesome and i love him, u should too!

the sam in the book appears to know much more than he seems, and also has a great courage. but the movie sam always blubbers and whines. it made him look weak, i thought sam was made of tougher stuff than that despite him shedding tears over bill the pony etc.......

i found frodo alot more annoying than sam... i know i'm opening up a can of worms saying that but o well, sam was the only one in the movie that also was able to make me cry, well besides theoden dying scene, that got me, sean astin did such a great job

Sam was great, and Seas Astin is a great actor, I he was going to be dominated for an Academy Award

I was furious when he was nominated for anything though I think I can understand, LotR is a very ensemble piece.

LOTR is good because of ALL of the good actors, and actresses for those who like the female roles best, I would have disliked it if anyone one of them wasn't convincing as their roll... but I love Sam the most... but I've loved him most since I read the books the first time, I actually thought in TTT he got a bit irritating, but in ROTK he really became the best charactor, pretty much the same thing with the books too...

I was recently reading Shelobs lair into The choises of master samwise, and was wondering:

a) is this why sam gets to go to the undyeing lands, cos he had th ring for that short period of time
b)why didnt the nazgul fly straight to him, i mean he was practiclaly in mordor!

Yes.. If Sauron's attention was drawn to it but Sauron never thought of the possibility that the Ring could be in Mordor... because he only understand it when people wanted the ring for themselves, so he thought itd still be in Eriador or maybe in Gondor, but not coming towards Orodruin... so he didnt pay attention to the regions near him, and he cant find the ring if he doesnt look for it.

In FOTR when the Nazgul sense the Ring, Sauron KNEW it would be in/near the shire and sent the nazgul there, so they were searching for it there - and found it

No he didnt, but on Mt Doom it was that strong that Sauron just couldnt avoid getting beware of it... even stronger as Frodo used it willing to keep it for himself

i think also that the books says that another reason Sauron couldnt sense the Ring when Sam put it on because of the dark veil and clouds he put into the air as a defence had also clouded parts of his sight.

I thought the Nazgul were sent forth to The Shire because of Gollums uttering words "shire....baggins"

i have also just got to that part and as i already no the end could someone please tell me how frodo is alive and how he gets the ring back

anyways, frodo is still alive due to the sting shelob gave him just paralyzed him, sam uses the ring to break into the fortress and gives the ring back to Frodo.....

It was not put into the movie, but it is in the book.If you have the Return of the King read the chapter The Scouring of the Shire...If you dont have it tell me and I will write the explaination for you.

He didn't get the Ring back at "The Scouring of the Shire." Sauron and the Ring are already destroyed at that point.

He got the Ring back to him when Sam returned it to him after he was stung by Shelob and was brought to the Tower of Cirith Ungol. Kinda like in the scene from the movie. And like Discos said, Frodo was still alive because Shelob's sting was just really meant to paralyze him, not kill him. That was Shelob's "way" to eat her prey. So yeah, after several hours, the sting gradually lost its effect so Frodo at the Tower gained consciousness and was able to walk and continue with their journey.

yep, and also Frodo received his beloved sword "sting" (no pun intended) back...

I know he didnt get the ring back at the scouring of the shire but the question was how did he get back to the shire

As for Sauron hijacking a ship and sailing to the Undying Lands, he did it once by proxy.... read Akallabeth for the story...

he didnt in the akallabeth he was at numenor, not valinor.....hence the word akallabeth meaning the downfall



he was TOLD to go to valinor to be punished...but he didnt as he felt ashamed and hid....
