How will "The Lord of the Rings" movie trilogy hold up in five, ten, or twenty years?

Will it look silly and dated? Will the books outlast the films? Will kids be awestruck when they find out you were at the premiere?

I think the technology used in the movie might be considered outdated in the future, but I don't think the story ever will. The book is still so popular and read for a reason and as long as there are people who don't just watch movies because of special effects, I think the movies will be around for a long time.

Any thoughts? smile

Iirima
Story will never be outdated, kids'll call me ancient, but...whatevr. big grin

Kitoky
Actually I think Lord of the Rings will live on throughout atleast 10 years, because it's a huge trilogy and alot of it has been very well done.

I have wondered about this before. u know how the old king kong movies look realy bad now. same with the old star wars movies (clay animation) and back then they thought it was magic...

angelsflame265
I think its going to be like Star Wars where it's going to last and last and last, even when the cinama magic doesn't look as real

Aurora
LotR will hold up to the test of time... anything that is a work of amazing film (no matter what the special effects look like) will always be around. Think Gone With the Wind... it is completely outdated but it will never be old. Lotr is a classic!

samIam
my dance teacher said she was totally obssessed with LOTR and thought it was the coolest thing ever that they made the cartoon one ... i think it will last a long time .. I don;t know how much more techno we can get ...u never know hehe

Bar-en-Danwedh
i don't care... I'll stil be watching it over and over whenever I can in 10 years. In 20 years!!

CanadaGoose
I would venture to say it won't be much longer until it the triology joins the list of all time Movie Classics. People will be talking about LOTR wih the same love and respect as Casablanca, Gone With the Wind, Citizen Kane...

samIam
yup!!!of course!!

manny321
how long dose a dvd player last!!

Kitoky
20 years.

Alar
where did 20 years come from?

Kitoky
There.

Bloom4ever
lotr is by far the best trilogy cuz it had an amzing writter, and no doubt PJ did it the best. i mean it isnt a modern film now anyways, life is nothing like that now, so im sure it will always be remembered big grin
I wonder how stuff like Matrix and HP will look tho

Firithlotwen
well at least we will still watch it, so the movie wont be lost

and the books? no way, books never die, they are forever...... that's the beauty about literature

Iirima
Books are eternal. People are already saying that the movie is a classic. And I agree. big grin

stedan82
Look at the way they have made the movies. They used everyything. The time and devotion into it will also have to count for something. This is going to last for along time. Maybe in a hundred years or so they will do a remake. But theese will last.

SlipknoT
lotr wont be forrgoten anytime soon

pip-foot
I dont care, i just know that i will never stop loving it!!!!!!!!!!!! LOTR will never die smile smile smile

azszhz
as long as there are wierdos like us then Lotr will never die big grin even if in 20 years or so people look back and say "man those effects sux, can you believe there where once top of the line" and with the way movies are I know thats going to happen

Exa
Books are eternal, films mostly not, but I hope lotr will be

Bloom4ever
well I'll get back to this thread in 20 yrs then we'll really kno

Iirima
Wow, ur scaring me, Bloom! big grin Not stalking, again, I'm bored. *sighs for the 1,000,000,398 time today*

darbanana
The books will FAR outlast ANY movie, they're TOLKIEN and he's the ORIGINAL and therefore the BEST, sorry for all the caps, but my mom read the books in college and now I've read them, I don't think that any well written book will die

on second thought, the movies were pretty good, there are such things as classic movies that have lasted, but movie technology is constantly getting better so it'll someday look "old" but old can be good, but books will never get any more advanced, I don't think...
