well, it's a postcard (or trading card, i don't remember) printed by some company around the 80's, it looks like a little joke they try to play, neither lucasfilm or that company (the print company) would take full responsibility for the stunt, but it was never taken out of the market (again, just a joke) and it's precious for the collectors

the pic was never intended to came out that way, maybe it was a prank, and they didn't notice until it was out

Lucasfilm never intended it to come out that way, once they noticed the card, they stopped distributing it.

neither did the company that printed it (it wasn't Lucasfilm)

ok this is one is one of the biggest star wars 'urban myths' about and probably the best well known. The myth goes someone at Lucas Arts was about to be fired and as revenge added something 'extra' to 3po. There are countless varitions on this theme and no doubt many here can give sllightly differnt versions of this urban myth.
The actual story should anyone care to look for it LOL is that it was a part of the costume that fell off just as the photo was taken.
The strangest part is really just the zillion to one co-incidence that it lined up where it did.
The only reason i know this is I found it a few years back on a site on star wars urban myths.... if I can find the link I'll post it at some point.
Hope this clears this one up for anyone not sure on this cards background.
