ToMacco
The LBJ Awards are something I've done personally for the past three years. LBJ are my initials (Lucas Bradley Johnson) Every year, I nominate five films for Best Picture, then chose the best one. All of my friends and relatives take this seriously, you all can make your own opinons.

I make my decision after I've seen most films twice. This year has a lot of possible nominees.

PAST NOMINEES AND WINNERS: (*LBJ Best Picture Winner)

1998:
The Truman Show
Saving Private Ryan
At First Sight
Life Is Beautiful*
Shakespeare In Love

1999:
American Beauty*
The Blair Witch Project
The Insider
Election
The Green Mile

2000:
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Cast Away
Almost Famous
Traffic*
Chocolat
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Now, these are films that I've been thinking of of nominating:

A BEAUTIFUL MIND:
This is the best movie I've seen this year. It has everything a movie go-er could want. It's perfectly acted, and perfectly directed. I think this movie will win the Oscar for Best Picture and hopefully, for longtime holdout director Ron Howard.

THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING:
Despite it's unsatisfying ending, it is still a very good movie. It's blend of action and heart, makes this a definate contender for the LBJ.

A.I. ARTIFICIAL INTELEGENCE:
Speilbergs vision of Kubricks ideas is very well done. This is a very underatted movie. The ending was unsatifying to some people, then there are those like me, who really liked the film.

RIDING IN CARS WITH BOYS:
I don't think any of you have seen this movie. Please, take my word for it and rent this when it comes out. It is a very solid story, with very convincing performances, especially by Steven Zahn, who should get an Oscar Nomination. I left this movie wanting to get in touch with my family, so it was effective in moving me verymuch so.

PEARL HARBOR:
Many hated this film, and I also think that it was really the sequel to Titanic; However the action scenes in the picture had me glued to the screen. And the love story only drew me in further. This is a good movie, which should be seen by all.

SHREK:
A computer animated film, which is both charming and touching. There were a few things I would change about it, but it's funny, and it can be seen by people of all ages. This movie is much better than Monsters Inc.

GOSFORD PARK:
A VERRRRRYYYYY dry film about a Brittish get-together which goes horribly wrong. But this movie really draws me in because it never tries to be anything but a dry film. The performances were very well done, and the story was interesting enough to keep my attention, even though nothing happened for two hours. This is a good movie.

BRIDGET JONES DIARY:
If I understand it correctly, this was a popular TV series in England. I think it was a perfect blend of comedy and heart. Zellwigger will almost certianly get an Oscar Nomination.

BLACK HAWK DOWN:
Almost a perfect action film. It doesn't have the qualities to be an Oscar contender, but it never tries to be anything more than it is; a re-telling of a horrific event. Ridley Scott did a good job directing, but the film is far from flawless. Still, it's good entertainment.
---------------------------------------------------------------

So, what do you all think? Which of these movies would you say is the best? Anyone disagree with my past winners, or nominations?

BackFire349
my vote would go to A.I.

ToMacco
That movie is pretty damn good.

Thomas H

finti
LOTR

queeq
I haven't seen them all. But definately NOT Bridget Jones or Pearl Harbor. I still don't know how to value AI, and I really want to see Gosford Park... so as for YOUR list, I pick LOTR. But where's Moulin Rouge???????

finti
in Paris big grin big grin

queeq
big grin

Thomas H
laughing out loud

ToMacco
I didn't really care for Moulin Rouge. It seemed like a musical version of Shakespeare in Love.

Texas
So I take it the LBJ awards will be handed out at your house again this year? big grin

I'd go for 'Ghost World'
but since it aint on your little ole list, I'll go with AI roll eyes (sarcastic)

ToMacco
What's Ghost World?

LanceWindu
My vote goes to:

Drum roll please:

Black Hawk Down- it was a great movie based on a true story.

TeCk-IcE
LOTR

Thomas H
Who is deciding who is going to, win you? smile

ToMacco
Yes, I make the final descion on nominees and who wins. But it's interesting to see what you guys think.

I think THE ROYAL TENENBAUNS was pretty good, too. I may nominate that.

Thomas H
ok

ToMacco
Damn, I also forgot about BLOW.

There are several movies I havn't seen yet that may be on my nomination list, too.

THE MAN WHO WASN'T THERE
MONSTERS BALL
IN THE BEDROOM
GHOST WORLD (happy, Tex?) I did read that it was really good.

LanceWindu
I've never heard of Ghost World. What's it about?

ToMacco
It's a coming of age movie. It's got Thora Birch (American Beauty) and Steve Buscemi. I don't know what the plot is about, but it got four stars out of four.

BackFire349
if blow is nominated then i change my vote to blow

ToMacco
When I finally make my desision for my five nominations, I will have a poll and see what you guys and gals think.

What do you all think of my past nominees and winners?

Thomas H
I better be Black HAwk Down!!! evil face smile

King Jedi
Shrek or A.I.

ToMacco
Hmm, a lot of you feel LotR was the movie of the year, huh?

Thomas H
I have not seen AI yet, but I have heard that it is very boring!!
Going to see it anyway!!

My vote is on BHD!!!!!!!!!!!

ToMacco
laughing out loud You havn't even seen it yet, Thomas laughing out loud

Thomas H
have you heart about vcd, I copy it onto a vhs, and then I can play it on my vcr player!!!

OK....I havent seen it, but my vote still goes to BHD!!!!!!!!!!!!! big grin stick out tongue

ToMacco
Black Hawk down wasn't that great. Sorry.

Thomas H
Thats your opinion!!! smile

ToMacco
Hey, like I said before, it's a good movie. But it is nothing special. I'm sure you're going to like it.

ToMacco
Two more make my list of good movies this year.

Ghost World and I Am Sam. Both were great.

ToMacco
Now the hype begins.

FLIPMODE
Im Surprised a serious side to Tomacco.

Well the Pearl Harbor nod totally is out of place. If you do give the LBJ to that movie, I bet you anything that Ben Affleck will come to you personally, to take the award right out of your hand. Because up until you, no one has considered it to be worthy of any award.

ToMacco
laughing out loud

I liked Pearl Harbor. But I didn't nominate it for the LBJ. In the end, it had to do with Michael Bay's choppy directing. Plus the movie was a sequel to Titanic.
