I hate their "new" album. It blows. There are a few good songs, but that's it. The first CD was awesome, and it's still one of my favorites. They have a new album coming out this year, and it's supposed to be harder than their other stuff.

For the record, that is just your guys' opinions.

there the worst example of pop rock out there. they're so predictable, and the sad thing is, they honestly believe they are punk, which is just plain dumb. obviously, they've never listened to the Ramones or the Clash or any real punk, or they wouldnt be making such stupid claims. people look at how they dress, with they're piercings, tattoos, crazy hair and what not, and think 'wow these guys are hardcore'. gimme a break. even bands like Sum 41 and Blink 182 sound good compared to Good Charlotte.

The first album was better than their second but i still think that they are the best band on the face of this earth (besides Cold) But what really gets me is that you look at the good bands out they're today and none of them were "Popular" in school at all thye were what you called freaks or something but you have a differnt point of view about what they sing about when you are "popular" and when your not, i'm pesonally have been at the same school for 8 years and have never had a small streak of popularity so when you look back onto they're lyrics like in "the little things" you can tottaly see what angle they're coming from so the popular people wouldnt respect them there for they dont know how they feel and then the fact that they are catholic pushes away most people because they have religous background on they're music.

I like Outkast, Eminem and Busta Rhymes(who aren't underground, but whatever) because they are great lyricists.

Good Charlotte does not claim to be punk anymore, as far as I can remember, and I can't recall them ever claiming that. I know that they would get pissed off when people would say they weren't punk, and Benji would get in fights on a daily basis, but it's nobody's right ti say somebody is or isn't something. Punk is just a label....that's it. But you saying that they haven't heard real punk music is completely absurd. First of all, there are different kinds of punk, so how the hell do you define it? What is "Real" punk? Ska is still punk, as is emo, and there is such a thing as pop-punk. That's what Good Charlotte is. Just because they are mainstream does not mean they can't still have their punk values. While other people don't classify them as punk, the people who decide who fits into what genre does, so it really doesn't matter what you think. Benji is one of the most "punk" people I have ever had the fortune of meeting, so I know first hand that he really loves the music and the lifestyle. While the remainder of Good Charlotte may only be in it for the money or the fame(though I doubt it), the fact still remains that Benji IS punk, and that's good enough for me.

i dont know much about rock but i USE to listen to Korn and SOAD. for like a couple of months i use to listen to them. i thought some of there stuff was great. and STILL sometimes i listen to Aerials by SOAD.

HockeyHorror--I used to have the impression that "underground hip hop" as you put it had lyrics similar to the mainstream stuff only 10x worse. Like talking about going around with your homies in your flashy cars and talking about your "b!tches" and such.. Oh and TM, I have to say I agree about LP being talentless. I admit that I actually like some of their music, but they certainly don't have talent. If you look in the back of the lyrics thing for "Meteora", it lists the band members:

"Linkin Park is: Chester Bennington: vocals. Rob Bourdon: drums. Brad Delson: guitars. Joseph Hahn: records, sampling. Phoenix: bass. Mike Shinoda: emcee, vocals, sampling."
Meaning that only three of the six band members actually play instruments. Chester might have a reasonably good voice if he wasn't screaming every goddamn word of the songs. I have this image of how their band was formed that goes something like this:
"Hey Chester, wanna start a band?"
"OK, that sounds fun! I'll sing and try to act all cool like. You just play your guitar and act inconspicuous and be sure not to let any talent you may have develop."
"Can I join too guys?"
"Um... Ok... You can just stand around and mess with Rob's guitars to make 'em sound worse."
"Can I join too guys?"
"Ok you can just stand around and mess with my voice to make it sound better"
"Don't we need a drummer?"
"Oh yeah..""You sir, do you want to be in our band? Of course you do!"

And thusly proceeded the formation of the oddest band in the history of rock.

Wow...Ras Kass is pretty good. ..But Immortal Technique sucked. I must admit, though, that the story completely chilled me and turned me numb. That was insane, and while I can rhyme better than him, I'm not sure if I could tell a story like him. I'm a lyricist and a poet, in case you were wondering, and a lot of my inspiration for rhymes come from rap. But Kass was great, and he has a high vocabulary, which I know is a major plus in the rap scene.

Although some of his facts are wrong. Not many, however, and I'm extremely impressed with this. But the "Aryans" were not a race, as Kass proclaimed, and as Hitler claimed and sought to make a perfect country. Aryan is actually a group of european languages. Also, in history, they do teach you all about the muslims, and the truth, etc. But I'm sure they didn't when he went to school, so I suppose that doesn't even matter. Also, the Muslims/Turkey won all but 2 of the Crusades, and in the last one, the catholics took the christian stronghold of Constantinople. That one had nothing to do with the Muslims until they took it back from them(Constantinople is important to both Christians and Muslims, hence all the fighting taking place between the 2 groups.). Also, Hitler was half-Jewish.

And it sounds to me like Kass has something against white people. Personally, I can't stand the self-righteous white supremists who think they're better than everyone. I know what blacks have been through, and it is a travesty, but that was hundreds of years ago, and at the risk of sounding trite, GET OVER IT! Don't use that as an excuse. Go out and do something! Hell, Thomas Jefferson is one of the greatest advocates for racial equality of all time, and here Kass is badmouthing him and the Declaration of Independence. Jefferson even had kids with a black woman. Back then, people feared what they didn't know, and they still do, and that was why blacks were enslaved. They were considered primitive and undeveloped, and while that may have been wrong, the whites didn't know any better. I am by no means condoning what happened and is still happening. I am simply saying that if Kass is trying to badmouth all whites, then he is a damn hypocrite and he is going against everything he is fighting for in his lyrics. Other than that, he is talented, and I am truly impressed with his abilities.

Now, Good Charlotte, IN MY OPINION, doesn't suck. If you don't like them, that's your opinion. If somebody likes them, that is their opinion. Please don't talk bad about a band just because you don't like them. You can state why you don't like them, but be prepared to back up that opinion with facts. Also, HockeyHorror likes underground hip-hop, and there's not a damn thing wrong with that, either! Please don't talk bad about him or hip-hop just because you don't like it. I personally can't stand mainstream rap, other than Eminem, Busta Rhymes, and Outkast(they are all amazing lyricists), but I will never talk bad about any rapper because I can respect what they do.

I just read CunninLynguists' thing, and that was also very good. Some excellent rhymes in there.

About Linkin Park...Their first album, I loved. I can listen to it over and over again(all excpet for Crawling and In The End...I can't stand those damn songs). But the remix album blew ass, and so does Meteora. They aren't talentless, but it's bad when the best person in your band is working the turntables. Being a drummer, I hate electronic drums with a passion, and Rob Bourdon blows major ass. Also, most of the time, you can't even hear the guitars over the drums and the other electronic BS they put in there. If you're gonna have a band with turntables, at least have talented musicians...look at Incubus! Brandon Boyd is a gerat lyricist and he has a great voice, and they are amazingly talented band even with a DJ. Also, I actually liked Korn's Follow The Leader and Issues. I didn't hear much of Untouchables, and I haven't heard the new album. Next, I've never liked The Deftones, except for "Back to School", "Change", and "My Own Summer(Shove It)". But I also like SOAD. I love anything with a political message, and most of the stuff I write is politically-based.

Like most everything else you guys have said, it's all an opinion.



I'd like to believe that Mike Shinoda would have a pretty flourishing solo career as an Emcee if L.P. were to ever go the way of the dodo bird. But, since their sound is fresh, and undeniable unique, I don't see that happening. Hate 'em all you want, I still say that their engineering/programming is the stuff of legend.

As for Incubus, and their D.J. This may have been up for debate when they still had D.J. Lyfe, and before they sold out for college radio. Now, much like Frank Delgado in the Deftones, their new D.J. is virtually useless.

Now, Good Charlotte. Mainstream pop punk doesn't take much talent. They had a look, and they can play power chords. They had catchy songs, and apparently a record label was looking for the next Blink 182.
Sign 'em up! Get sleeve of tattoos, spike their hair, and voila. You have a boy band/pop/punk phenomenon.

There's lots of great underground rap. One of the best examples is the defjux labels' El-P, who recently released his stellar album Fantastic Damage. Here's an excerpt from the title track:

When GC were signed, they didn't become famous overnight. They worked for it, and their first album was great. Don't know what happened, though.

Well, I was watching this show on the History Channel (yes, I watch the History Channel) about Hitler and Germany, and according to it, Hitler made up a sort of fairy tale that made Jews into demonic, sinful people. It went something like this: "Long ago, the German people were a race of superhuman giants. They were good to everyone, and used their great size and strength wisely. Then, along came the Jews. They interbred with the German people, turning them into ordinary humans."
So, basically, from what I've heard, Hitler just told the Germans that because of this, they should kill all the Jews. I doubt that even Hitler would want his own mother or father killed.

and Chester does not have a good voice. i used to think he did, but then you listen to several of they're songs and you think, wait...they all sound exactly the same! thats because Chester Bennington can only sing one note. there is no alteration in pitch between his singing/screaming. hes a one trick pony.

HOWEVER, there is one member of LP who is talented, Joe Hahn. hes an excellent dj. the first track on Meteora (i think its called 'Dont Stay') has an amazing scratch-solo near the beginning. its perfectly timed and neatly done. also, the X-Ecutioners (best dj's in the world) have worked with him on several occasions, and if they deem him worthy, he must be pretty good.
