The subject of hardback or paperback has come up in various postings here, some people say that they prefer hardbacks, some people say they prefer paper backs, and I was wondering what the ratio actually is

So what do you all prefer? I, personally, prefer paperbacks. I like paperbacks because they are easy to hold, portable,easy to store.

I can see the merits of both so don't have a particular preference.

I prefer to loan out my paperbacks and horde all my hard bound editions to myself

i like both, it really doesn't matter to me, but i voted for paperback

You can't fold a hardcover book over when you're reading...

Usually I prefer hardcover. If it's a short novel I might choose the paperback.

I like hardcover when it comes to books that are 800 pages long. When it comes to short novels about 295 pages I like paperback. So I like them both.

I prefer paperback because its lighter. I tend to read on the train on my way to uni.
I'd go for a hardback only if I can't wait for the paperback version to come out

Paperbacks coz the corners don't hurt as much when they dig into you.

I usually go for paperback because they're smaller, lighter, and cheaper...though huge books like Harry Potter I've got in hardcover, because most of my paperbacks are pretty beat up from being read so many times...like I have the paperback edition of the Lord of the Rings where it's all in one huge novel (and it's about 1100 pages long), and the first 100 or so pages fell out because it's been read so many times.

I rather Hard Backs, they are more exclusive and, well, nicer. They also don't get damaged as much as paperbacks.

most of my books are hardback...but it really doesn't matter. As long as it's a good book

i prefer buying paperback books over hardback ones because they are lighter and easier to manage when you read them from any comfortable reading position.

I like hardback books. The words are bigger and they are just nicer! They are more appealing to me as well.

paper back all the way.. and soooooooo anal about my paperbacks that they all look as if they have never been read... i dont fold over pages the bindings still look like they came right off the store shelves... i love paperbacks.

i like hardcover books but they're too expensive. i'd say 90% of my books are paperbacks, and most of them are second hand.

I don't know, I like paperbacks but one of my favourite books which is paperback is pretty beat-up because I've lean't it to a lot of my friends, and I'm very dissappointed because It's an orginal print so It could be worth a lot some day ........

paperback's gives me paper cuts so i like hardback

While I prefer hardcover, paperback is cheaper so I have more of those.

I like hardbacks - they look good in the bookshelf and when reading a big heavy one its like spending time in the gym working on your arms....

I like Hardcover, only because it gives me more of a sense of accomplishment over a paper back after I'm done reading it.

I know you are trying to "Manage the Forum" but deleting what people wrote is simply wrong.

I have looked for book discussion forums, and this one seems to be the most active, but nothing compares to the rude admin you have here.

Buying a hardback can put a dent in the wallet. I like paperback because it is easier to carry around.

Go to Barnes & Noble, Borders or any of the big-name book retail chains, and you can usually find new releases for 25-35% off, and best sellers for 20-30% off... both of which make hardcovers a little more affordable. Personally, I prefer hardcovers from a collector's standpoint. I have my preferred authors that I like to have in hardcover format, and several of them have actually been signed, making them someone more valuable to me in hardcover format.

Hard Cover is good if you want it to be more 'official'. If it's a long book, I could go for hardcover. If it's short, or something I don't read often, softcover

I Prefer Hardcover Because They last Longer(the cost i could care less about) and they look so much nicer and dont bend and look OFFICIAL

To put on my bookshelf, I prefer hardcover books. They just look so cool! Hardcover books are really difficult to carry around, though, so for casual reading (or reading in general), I'd choose a paperback. I'd buy a bunch of hardcover classics that I would read only if had to. They look really nice on the shelf, especially if they've been published by the same place. But I'm rambling now.
