Right now they are trying to pass a law here in Minnesota: And that is you can't smoke cigarettes in bars. What kind of crap is that? I mean, I know it's a public health issue. But if you hang out at bars enought where the second hand smoke will effect you, you're probably not the healthy type anyway.
Oh well, I should probably quit smoking anyway. Anyone else here quitting tobacco?
Lord Soth
I'm not that stupid.......no2
Paola
II'm stupid

I'm not quitting... never tried.... someday will

Peloquin
They tried that in Australia too... put on these ad's on TV with bar staff complaining about 2nd hand smoke. We laughed, they lost.

Baylin
Being an ex-smoker I find the smell of cigs quite horrendous, but I do however like to drink lots of beer so it would be nice if I could go out and not come home smelling like a stale ashtray.
Oh and just to give people that want to stop smoking a booster just remember - everyone quits smoking eventually!

lethargic rambler
I stopped smoking a few years ago, it was hard but well worth it in the end.
However, I can't imagine stopping drinking.

Raz
ToMacco you're back!

cermiestar
i think it's a good idea, why should those who choose not to smoke have to suffer second hand smoking because others want to destroy their lungs
crazy_c
They're just after doing it in ireland where you can't smoke in public places. i think it's a good idea

sk8stuff09
in mexico, we eat tacos!
Linkalicious
they have that law in California...it's actually kinda nice for us here because they always open up somesort of patio for the smokers to go out and use. I don't smoke cigarettes, but i spend a large portion of my nights out on the patio because i like the open air, and generally speaking...it's easier to hook up with smokers than it is to hook up with non-smokers.
Evy_O
I don't think it's right to ban smoking from bars, though I've never tried it and never will myself.
What they have to do is force them to have seperate areas for smokers and non-smokers

mors823
New York has a smoking ban. No smoking in public buildings. You can imagine the uproar. Businuss lost customers and waivers were soon handed out. It's a good idea, but it's not feasible.
Df02
good idea, i like my lungs pink tyvm.
u can kill urselves sumwhere other than a bar surely?
ZERODiablos
But its okay to go into a bar and destroy your liver? Why not your lungs, you won't need them for very long without a freakin liver. I say don't ban cigarettes.
Df02
i destroy MY liver, im not throwing alcohol down every1 else near me's throat aswell
ZERODiablos
What's your point? No one accused of you of forcing others to drink.
Linkalicious
i think you're missing the point ZERO
Df02
my point is Alcohol is fine in bars because its a personal choice...... whereas smoking affects other ppl around u, who maybe dont want to get lung cancer?
im actually not too bothered, i wouldnt complain about smoking in bars..... but id prefer ppl didnt
Linkalicious
smoking on patios works out nicely..
as i've said before, going out and getting some fresh air is actually quite nice.
ZERODiablos
and my point is: drinking beer can kill you as fast as smoking can. Solution: Quit bitchin and drink at home.
Df02
lol......as i said in last post im not too bothered by smoke, but im highlighting why smoking SHOULD be banned.
if smoking only affected the person who smoked i wouldnt have a problem
great 1, drink at home lol......im not 14 anymore lol drinking at home not an option
ZERODiablos
LMAO. I just think its pointless to say "We're gonna go drink a bottle of tequilla, some vodka and whiskey, and i don't wanna be bothered with cigarette smoking." You know? That's like saying no murdering in a rape joint. Both very bad things.
Df02
no, its like saying no murdering in a suicide joint....1's worse than the other because it involves a person who doesnt want to be killled
he wants to do it himself!
(part joke in this post, but the idea comes across)
i really dont get why u dont understand the difference between smoking and drinking. lol, imo its pretty plain to see how smoking is worse
ZERODiablos
I realize and understand the difference. But i don't see why it should be banned in a place where you can get drunker than hell but act like a whiny ***** when it comes to having smoke blown in your face.
Df02
if u understand the difference then u should understand the reason for it being banned.
funnily enough not every1 goes into a bar to get pissed off their face drunk...
ZERODiablos
The fact is there are too many liberal sons of a bitches already just looking for something to complain about. Getting rid of 'under god' from the pledge yet they won't discuss the 'in god we trust' on currency. People bitching about gay marriages, but not considering if gay divorce should be allowed (lol) and now people who get shit faced in a bar don't want to have smoke around them. You don't like it, leave, its that simple stop bitchin and leave, it ain't that hard.
Fëanor
maybe it is...but a person can smoke a carton and not kill someone directly as opposed to someone who drinks to the point of bein'g sh!t faced and drivin' off into the sunset...
drinking sensebly okay...but most people who go to bars don't usually do that...if you ban one thing you must ban all the others that are bad for us...but then, banning anything is bad...look what it did for prohibition...the blackmarket is gonna have a field day if it continues to the point where ciggies are illegal
Linkalicious
but they aren't banning smoking...
they are banning it inside. It's not like bars don't have alternative places to smoke...
Dario Argento
I were in Dublin a week ago, and there it was illegal to smoke inside in the public. For me it was OK because I don't smoke, but I think it is a little hysterical.
Df02
theres a difference between drinking and drink-driving.... ie one of them is illegal lol.
not every1 who drinks gets shit-faced, but every1 who smokes in public affects people around them's health.
and as for the "if u dont like it, leave" thing - well, no ty....they're hopefully banning it, so u leave lol
Fëanor
yeah...but that's the first step into one day outright banning all together...maybe not today...but sometime in the years to come...
you can't just ban it inside...there are some places where you can't even smoke outside...or at least 20 ft from the intrance...
it should've never even been banned...non-smokers always have the choice to not go to those places where smoking is allowed...
after all...smokers are still a minority in this country
ZERODiablos
Drinking affects people around them. A drunk person can stir up problems, maybe its not second hand smoke, but what about bar fights? That is bad for your health
Df02
again, only some drunk people start fights, all smokers are affecting people around them.
face facts here, smoking is worse than drinking
ZERODiablos
You cannot tell someone who is doing one bad thing to not do another bad habit because you don't like it, especically if your doing one of these bad habits, no one has that right
Df02
lol....back to the beginning, this argument going in circles.
we've gone over the "they are both bad" bit before, Drinking is a personal decision, Smoking affects people who dont smoke aswell
therefore, a person who drinks can say dont smoke...
ZERODiablos
Whatever, man, your just dragging this out so you don't lose an agrument. If you drink your accepting it can kill you, there is one reason to complain about smoking in bars: The sake of complaining. BTW, i don't smoke.
Fëanor
i know for a fact that both are bad whether directly or indirectly...
the part imo that i have a problem and i can't speak for the others is banning anything at all...good or bad, to ban something that is legal is in some ways an infringement on an individuals right to decide for themselves how they should live whether or not we agree with it...
I myself do not smoke nor drink, but I would not want to tell someone how they should live their lives or what they can or cannot do for it too would infringe on their right to live their lives....
I just choose not to be around where there are smokers...and that I can live with...
there are no varying degrees of which is worse because both are bad for the body, but drinking has a quicker affect on one's perception than smoking a pack...
