Difference between Anime and Manga

To make it really clear, Anime is just simply Animated cartoons which we get to see on tape, LDs, T.V or VCDs. While Manga are the books, magazines and illustrated novels which we read. These two though are closely related, they have very distinct differences.

Anime Style: First, the obvious is the artwork. Usually, the art in mangas are more fine and better than anime. The eyes are drawn with more emotion and the hair lines are much much finer to depict the flowing style. Anime however, have good artwork too but not as good as their brethrens in mangas.

Usually anime originate from their story off mangas, like Fushigi Yuugi and some others. However, there's instances where the anime itself is a stand alone feature. Examples are those one shot OVA movies made which have no manga origin. These stories are some what different from those in the mangas either containing new plots or missing some. Sometimes, the artists might even change the whole flow of the storyline to attract new viewers as well.

I was just gonna say that smile

Dregh
Alright, now can someone tell me the difference between Anime and
Hentai? hahhahahaha jk

Trinity_Matrix
Anime = animated
Manga = graphic novel
Hentai = porn
laughing out loud

Akira_Namejin
exactly

TrAnCeDuO
can you get more obvious?

BakaXero
i kinda thought they were different animation group
cause some animations have the manga logo on them like street fighter II the animated movie
so thats why i dont think manga is paper based

Trinity_Matrix
Ahh, I see why you're confused.

One of the American companies that releases anime over here is called Manga Entertainment, that's all. They really have nothing to do with manga.

SaTsuJiN
lol... I wonder if anyone wants to know what yaoi (or nasty bishonen sick ) are... :: giggle ::

BakaXero
im listening....
LOL

TrAnCeDuO
yaoi is gay and bishounen refers to youthful person...

Trinity_Matrix
Yaoi = boy/boy sex
Shounen-ai = boy/boy love
Bishounen = lit. pretty boy, but usually refers to a hot guy.

dragonpisces272
yes laughing

LeAtHerRFace
Anime is an American way of saying Manga in Japan. In Japan, they dont say Anime, they say Manga.

BakaXero
jawdrop
Ill never be curious again shifty
LOLlaughing

beastnpyro
i think.... this ones right... but manga's are mostly comic books... while animes are animated series of shows... (oh... one thing... that makes leather face's post right is that anime is short for animation...and thats why its called japanese anime...i think yous guys already know that... juz thought id tell yous)

Trinity_Matrix
Actually, that's wrong. In Japan, they do use the word Anime. Anime, in Japanese, simply means animation, so while we use it to mean Japanese animation, in Japan, Anime means anything that's animated.

Manga, literally translated, means comic book. Manga are the graphic novels that you read. Manga never means something animated, and Anime never means something that's a book (though a lot of people mix these two up).

Another thing: Manga has been around a lot longer than Anime. Anime is just a Japanese word that's been adapted from another language, and is therefore writting in katakana. Manga is a Japanese word that's been around a loooong time, and is written in kanji.

LeAtHerRFace
Wrong. They dont say ANIME in Japan. I should know because I went there like 20 times. And they dont use the word ANIME. They use the word MANGA for both Animated Cartoons and Comic Books. In America they use both: Anime for animated and Manga for japanese comic books.

Trinity_Matrix
No, they don't. I'm friends with a girl who is an exchange student from Japan, and I've had several penpals who lived in Japan. They all used Anime for animated stuff and Manga for graphic novels...in fact, I had even asked them if this was correct and they told me it was.

TrAnCeDuO
*sigh*....alright hold on ill go and try to find a online dictionary that ive posted around here somewhere>_>

Raventheonly
Truly none of use will really know unless we have some kinda survey in Japan over dialect. Due to the fact that apperantly none of us are in fact Japanese.... erm

Cizal
One key difference between much Anime and Manga is that Anime based off a Manga(let's say...DBZ) will have things added to it, known as filler(as they fill up space, since comics can't be translated all that well as is unless they're EXTREMELY detailed). In DBZ's case, the filler even goes so far as to change strengths of characters. And then in the case of Trigun...Half way through, the Anime and Manga and exactly the same, for the most part. Then it's splits off, and they're COMPLETELY different.

Cat Girl Sheryu
i agree

crazy_c
anime is the cartoon, manga is the comic book.

Drifter101
manga is the comic version, its what anime gets the stories from pretty much, anime is like the cartoon television version of manga
