Hello all, i have been having some major troubles with my computer, and i cannot find help anywhere. So i thought i would come to my favorite community in hopes of finding an answer.

See the problem started about a week ago when my homepage had some how changed to a search engine page listed as " about:blank" in the address bar. Now i have tried changing my homepage numerous times but that doesnt work it stays the same. Everytime i try and download somthing it always comes up to that page. my computer has been running slower and spam has doubled. so basically my computer has gone to hell. I cant even type in a destination in my address bar. I have to use a search engine or my favorites listing. someone told me i may have been hijacked, now since i cannot download anything theres really not anything i can do that i am aware of. no virisus have been detected. i dont know what else i can do, can any body out there in ther internet world help me?

i cant click on that link, that damn homepage keeps comming up. i use ad aware, but i cant download anything or click by links, does anyone know how i can do an internet explorer repair? thanks though one

i think you have no choice but to back up everything you have onto cds, then wipe your hard drive

yeah tell me about it, theres got to be somthing else i can do aside from wiping my hard drive, do you think re setting the computer to an earlier date would help?

give it a try... formatting your hard disk must be your last choice

seems to me that your hard drive has a glitch in it (according to those symptoms) so back up everything in the C drive, not any other drives because the c drive is the one causeing you trouble because all the info is strorred in it and with out it the computer wont work at all, so back up everything that YOU NEED on a cd rewritable do not copy any files that you dont need because the problem could have come from downloading something and wipe it (you need a special disk to do it and instructions) , then load everything that you need back on and it should be fixed

Ive had aboutblank, I got rid of it through my control panel, it was just some program.

my homepage kept going to an about blank once, but i just reset my homepage back to google and it was fine

i appreciate everyones help. The thing is though i can get on the internet, but i cannot go anywhere by typing in a destination, i can only go anywhere by using favorite lists or a site that is in the drop down selection when i click the arrow on the address bar. i can go places using yahoo, but not typing in the actuall addy. I cannot download anything, i mean anything everytime i try it always goes back onto the homepage about:blank. I dont know how to wipe my hard drive and save what i need, i dont even know what i would need to save. thanks for al your help though. is there any way to try and remove what is being done without downloading or wiping my harddrive? i mean i have ad-aware that doesnt help though

I'd use a decent virusscan (but if you can't download that is a problem)
it's prolly spyware tho

they should force ppl to create partions. then they could just whipe their C: when they have a problem

I have 5 partions 1 for windows and drivers and stuff.
1 for virtual memory, 1 for me, 1 for my bro, 1 as backup for my parents their comp

get a friend to download CWShredder, put it on disk, and ran that

yes..definitely spyware...though you can try what softs the guyz have suggested. Don't open them in a page...just right click on the link they gave you (the one with the '.exe' and .'zip') and the "save target as.."

next time make sure you have a full membership Firewall and Virusscan (if you know your way around the net there are enough ways to get it for free)

In that case, go to Google or Yahoo and type in "spybot", it should bring up that site.
