Has anyone read this novel? OMG! this is an incredible piece of literature! I seen the film many times, but finally I got to read the novel. So far, is very intense to read. The story is very controversial with the homosexuality and drugs, but the book is much more darker. I'm reading it right now and is very interesting.

badkittykitty
I've heard of naked lunch but I think it was the film and i have never seen it I'm afraid.

kohl
it is very interesting indeed. nice reference manual as well if you think of it.

The movie is among my favorites of all time. As for the book is much MUCH darker. I was going to suggest this book for book of the month. But it has an adult level which may not be suitable for a younger reader. Still, if you read the book it takes you into the mind of drugs and junkies. I'm still reading it and is fairly similar to Herman Hesse Steppenwolf(which is another one of my most favorite book). Reading Naked Lunch is like a trip into a world of hallucinations and addiction. I highly recommend it! thumb up

Krabs55
cool cool have u read any other of burroughs books

WindDancer
I'm thinking of reading "Junkie" I heard is fairly similar to Naked Lunch. I still not sure about it. It will certainly be on my list of books to read this year. I still can get over Naked Lunch, it's just so raw, and disturbing sometimes. I love it! big grin

Hello guys, nice reading of course. Junkie is the base for Naked Lunch, written together with cronnenberg (sic?). It is written as an autobiography (is a good mimic to will Burroughs bio too) All the Will's books are great but Naked Lunch is the best by far.
I saw the movie and is cheaper than the book, but as the director and the author said: if we film a closer version it Will cost too much and will be banned everywhere.
For example, will actually shot his wife in a very sad incident (a will tell parody)
If you like him try reading martin amis or jg ballard (the one from crash)

Dr. Strangelove
Loved the movie so I'll be picking up the book in the near future.

WindDancer
You should check it out Dr. Strangelove is worth reading. yes

blalocklover I absolutely agree. Chronenberg in an interview did mention that to make a movie very similar to Burrough's Naked Lunch would be very expensive and most likely banned for its extreme literature.

Reckoning
By far the more intriguing and most confusing Burroughs book. I am still trying to grasp everything about this and what it entails.

blalocklover
reckoning buy some of his others books (just a few likwe yonqui, nova express and soft machine) and it give you some of his more wide (and obssesed) perspective.
Winddancer, thanks (BTW quite amazing profile.)

Let's start to talk about favourite chapters. I love the Hassan one and the start of Joselito _the one with neumonia and the docs_ and all the Benway thing

Dr. Strangelove
Book was great. Probably the darkest, disgusting, beautiful, humorous book I've ever read. Loved all the very distinct personalities from Dr. Benway to A.J. to The Pirate. I certainly will need to reread it again, as it's one of those books that you will not get everything during the first time.

Who wrote it WD?

I've seen the film and it was very odd, so I may check out the book too.

WindDancer
It was written by William S. Burroughs. The film is real good but rather weak compare to the indepth and obscurity of the book. Certain parts of the book are very graphical and there are quite a lot of heavy sexual themes.

Dr. Strangelove
The book makes the most sadistic porno look like Sesame Street. laughing out loud

mechmoggy
Thanks, I'll see if I can grab a copy when I'm out. thumb up

Okay it took me a while to get round to it, but I bought myself this book yesterday.

Think I'll save it for my holiday, then I'll let you know my thoughts.

WindDancer
Good to hear mech! I hope you enjoy it and hope to hear your response soon. smile

mechmoggy
Okay, read it whilst I was away.

This is THE strangest book I've ever read, but so brilliantly written that I couldn't put it down. Every time I thought I was getting an inkling of a plot, it all went f**ked up on me again!

Very, very, very odd, but amazing - 9/10.

papabeard
Naked Lunch is good in both Book and Film form.

Junkie is quite boring, however.

Super cool! I'm glad you like it mech. And yeah the interzone part of the book has more twists than a pretzel. stick out tongue

I'm finishing up Junkie. Pretty good although nowhere near the quality of Naked Lunch. I'm starting on The Soft Machine pretty soon, which I've heard is good.

I guess I'm becoming a Burroughs enthusiast. stick out tongue
