The Best JB Pre-titles Sequence?

The Redeemer
Just watched FRWL today...they don't make them like that anymore...and JB was killed at the start...a nice turn by Connery who kept his facial expressions intact to denote the masked villian he was portraying...
Excellent, simple film making and light years away from the over blustered attention grabbing pre-titles sequences of the later Bonds...I'd vote this one as my favourite...
And yours?
yerssot
hmmm, the one in Octopussy (I think, the one with the "I lost my charm"
, the blowing up part
or DaD, that was wicket too
The Redeemer
"I lost my charm!" was in TMWTGG...and wasn't even in a pre-titles sequence...
yerssot
I'm mixing my movies up again
The Redeemer
No comment!!!
yerssot
yeah, you would start about goodnight and goodhead
The Redeemer
Nah Y...I'm not one to keep score...
yerssot
I do... what was it again? 1-0 thanks to Nillis?
The Redeemer
No...no...no...on topic please!!!
yerssot
ok, for now I'll say DaD
The Redeemer
God...I can't even remember it...
yerssot
the best pre-title sequence?
The Redeemer
The Redeemer's second fav...OHMSS, of course!
Great fight on the deserted Portuguese beach...terrific use of experimental editing...and a nice touch at the end the way the two Draco henchman Bond half killed at the start clapped him at his wedding...
yerssot
but that wedding isn't pre-title
yerssot
so, that makes OHMSS having one of the worse pre-title sequences
Reborn Again
FYEO when Blofeld dies!
yerssot
also not that... you should annalyse the quote more closely
Reborn Again
I'm saying FYEO when Blofeld dies is the best JB pre-title sequences IMO. What are you talking about, yerssot? Think back to that movie, the scene I'm talking about happens before the title sequence.
yerssot
oh FFS, never mind RA... I thought I was in another thread
Discos
Tomorrow never dies is a great opener, the black market lol
The Spy who loved me was a good sequence with the ski-ers, better than world is not enough ski sequence
yerssot
TSWLM was good but not that great like in TND
Reborn Again
Goldfinger was pretty good too!
yerssot
I just happen to know that pre-title
seriously, that's about the only pre-title I know without having to see the movie again
Reborn Again
Because GF is one of the most renown films in cinemtography history, and for Bond fans the most renown. In 1964 it generated the highest box office numbers of its time. And it has an UNFORGETTABLE villain.
yerssot
Oddjob
and that fat germanlike brit ... and a Pussy
The Redeemer
Auric reminds me of my grandfather...seriously...and it DID pave the way for all the Bonds to follow...OHMSS excepted...it's the first Bond film Pierce saw at a tender age in London... and now HE'S Bond...
But I much prefer Mr. Big, Scaramanga and Zorin myself as villains...
Reborn Again
Some villains make an impression on you when you watch the films. Scaramanga and Zorin are two of them for me. GF is #1 & Blofeld is #2.
The Redeemer
Blofeld in OHMSS? He's the only one of the lot that got actively involved in any of the action...
Reborn Again
No, not in OHMSS. In YOLT. There is no better Blofeld representation that in YOLT.
yerssot
and which actor was that again?
The Redeemer
The late Donald Pleasence...
"This...is the price of failure, Mr Bond...!!!"
yerssot
you're always up to par with the Blofeld actors
The Redeemer
Including the camp one with the wig...
yerssot
don't go bald on that
The Redeemer
"I would'nt banco on that...!"
yerssot
"I didn't know you played chemin du fer, mister TR"
The Redeemer
Tres bien merci, Y.
Ou est le casino???
yerssot
Casino Royale?
The Redeemer
Apologies...my French ain't what it used to be.
yerssot
well, Bond can speak french, afterall, he used to visit "Paris"
The Redeemer
Yeah...I was there too four times in the past ten years or so...fantastic city...but no sign of Terri Hatcher though...
yerssot
I also visited Paris in the traditional way
The Redeemer
Here's another Bond pre-title goodie...THUNDERBALL...were Bond has a very close encounter indeed with a very deadly black widow played by none other than Bob Simmons...
I wonder did he enjoy the part?
Evy_O
of course he enjoyed
yerssot
oh waffle, with that banana going up and down and that "widow" it's getting really sick
Reborn Again
Sex and Bond go together like a banana and its skin.
I think you mean Richard Simmons.
yerssot
if you don't know the name, you call him bob
The Redeemer
I thought Bob WAS his name?
yerssot
he's not a builder
The Redeemer
Jeez Y...you that young you watch Bob The Builder???
yerssot
my ...erm... kids watch it
The Redeemer
That's what they all say!!!
yerssot
it's for a project I'm doing?
The Redeemer
Just admit it...you're a fan!
yerssot
lets get back ontopic
Evy_O
hilarious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yerssot
ON topic, evy
phinney6
I like From Russia With Love Pre-sqeunce and the Spy Who Loved Me's one
Reborn Again
To tell you the truth, I like FRWL pre-sequence too! Though it was a bit short. Yet I suppose they were trying out a new concept that would later become custom for all future Bond films. Good thing the pre-sequence idea worked.
yerssot
welll, what else could they do? kill him faster? or make him suffer more?
Reborn Again
I don't have a clue.
The Redeemer
Wooo!!! Hooo!!! More pre-title FRWL fans...yeah, it's a real attention grabber...short and sweet, simply made and hits the nail right on the head...
yerssot
but short isn't good, it's the size that matters
phinney6
I mean in the beginning it was cool, BTW FRWL is my favorite Bond Movie ever. I just think its a good old classic spy movie, "high-tech" for its time but good. Like Ian FLeming would of wanted it
yerssot
I haven't read hte books so I can't say what Fleming would have liked
but FRWL... I can imagine it being realistic in those days
The Redeemer
Sorry, Funny...er...Finni...old boy...just can't take you seriously with the guv'nor of California under your name...
yerssot
focus on the name; it's phinney
The Redeemer
Sounds a bit FUNNY to me!!!
yerssot
it's an age thing
The Redeemer
More like a weird thing...
yerssot
he's american
The Redeemer
That says it all!!!
yerssot
isn't there a pre-title sequence where bond blows some americans up?
The Redeemer
No, that's in THE LONG GOOD FRIDAY!
yerssot
never saw that one myself ... I hope the next one will future it ... would be my fav
The Redeemer
Then how come you knew the answer to a past question I posed, Y?
IMDB again, eh...with the B standing for Belgian???
yerssot
In Memoriam De Belgica
It Maybe Dreads Belgians...
phinney6
BTW Red, I have Irish background
yerssot
and at such a young age already
phinney6
Least I dont live in a tv-set
yerssot
wanna take this outside and pre-title fight it out
phinney6
Dont make me use my Walther PPK!
yerssot
like in Goldeneye?
just don't forget to knock
phinney6
Ok *knock knock *
yerssot
now jump down a dam
phinney6
BANG! BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG!!!!!
yerssot
I take you refer to the russians who were shooting at 007 in the dam-building after capturing 006?
phinney6
NOO Im shooting you!!!
yerssot
of course phinney; of course
but lets keep on topic
phinney6
lol how is "no jump down a dam" on topic?
yerssot
it's what bond does in Goldeneye, in the pre-title sequence before he knocks someone out cold
phinney6
I know, but i mean your like DONT GORGET TO KNOCK and all so i though we were playing along
yerssot
yeah, but I quoted the movie, you didn't
phinney6
Well you had your kicks
yerssot
try quoting too, phinney, it's so fun
Evy_O
what's the current quote then?
that's a... gun
yerssot
this thread is about the best pre-title sequences
The Redeemer
Well said, old boy...now, are you watching the Champions League final later on???
yerssot
hell yeah
go porto
erm... I mean... there are no CL finals in any pre-title sequences
yerssot
get back on topic will ya
Evy_O
shuss you! you LOLed? nono
topic topic... titles, erm... nice topic
yerssot
no, just annoying you
so, you liked Goldfinger, no?
The Redeemer
Here's one...and a question to boot...
Is Bond's PTS fall in MOONRAKER a precursor to big Arnie's one in ERASER???
yerssot
I believe there are more movies where the hero jumps out of a plain without a parachute...
Darth Maverick
I think the best post title screen was Goldeneye
yerssot
*congrats DM with the good taste*
Evy_O
why is everyone using first letters such as PTS, it's confusing
Goldeneye's was good
yerssot
then just look at the title and you know what is ment
Evy_O
oh right
yerssot
*jumps on horse and rides off to the sunset*
Ahnold
The Moonraker pre-credits sequence is definitely up there. Except for the appearance of Jaws at the end, it's bloody brilliant...
Btw, yerss, I've been looking through old threads and was surprised to learn that ALL of them were last posted at ... by you. Do you always feel the need to get in the last word
?
Evy_O
funny comment with the horse
to answer to your question, Ahnold... yes
and something random...
the Arlond sig is very funny!
yerssot
yup, a trick to get people to post more
but seriously... Moonraker perfect? I disliked the story a lot
Ahnold
Who said it was perfect?
yerssot
no one I hope, it's not perfect, brilliant, good or anything positive
Ahnold
I like the pre-credits sequence though...
Reborn Again
I thought so.
The Redeemer
MOONRAKER is by no means perfect...the humour is juvenile and oft times downright embarrassing...BUT it does have quite a few plus points...the obvious one being the gorgeous Lois Chiles...as well as an excellent John Barry score, some sumptuous art direction and the death of Corrine Dufour at the paws of Drax' hounds goes against the grain of what is otherwise a very light weight Bond film...
yerssot
that little plus sides don't make it that good, I'm mostly stumped by their FX and story and such
The Redeemer
I think ol' Lois is a BIG plus...in ANY film.
yerssot
Lois... Lain?
for some reason, I'm starting to like DaD a lot more... and I gotta say, that pre-title sequence is nice
The Redeemer
Hey...just got to thinking...while Barry's OHMSS sig tune is downloading FROM ELSEWHERE
...if you eventually do rate DAD your favourite Bond film then we ain't such poles apart after all...
DAF...DAD...I think you get the point!!!
yerssot
erm, nuhuh! I'll never rate it as my fave! I'm crazy but not stupid
or was it the other way around?
The Redeemer
I think Dustin Hoffman made that questioning assumption in a film last night...
yerssot
he stole it from me, the cheap bastad!
Ahnold
Erm, you misspelt that on purpose, right
?
yerssot
of course, otherwise it's swearing
The Redeemer
Beating the censors??? Nice one, old boy!!!
yerssot
reminds you of the beating Bond did in the pre-title sequence in TMWTGG
The Redeemer
Er, any chance of telling us what you mean?
yerssot
I was just being the ontopic biatch
The Redeemer
Yeah...but what beating???
yerssot
didn't he fought those three tugs with the bellydancer near?
The Redeemer
In the pre-titles sequence???
On second thoughts you're NOT of form tonight...
yerssot
I'm lousy at remembering those
Etrigan
Goldfinger was really good, full of classic Bond moments. The fight with Capungo, although short, is really good and the seagull disguise is unforgettable.
OHMSS was funny because George Lazenby's fight scenes were so obviously sped up and full of cartoony sounds, ESPECIALLY in the opening sequence.
Goldeneye is another good mention.
Clovie
I'd like to say that pre-title sequence was the only good part about the DaD
yerssot
I think the pre-title in DaD was one of the best
Clovie
you agreed with me
yerssot
sorry bout that, it won't happen again
Clovie
why sorry and why not?
yerssot
cause you didn't like it apperently
Clovie
i liked it very much.
just it hasn't been occuring recently cry and i got suprised by this change
yerssot
oh, it's not a change, it was an accident
Clovie
are you sure...that would be a shame
yerssot
well, I'll make sure it was an accident
yerssot
by not agreeing
