You have got to be freakin kidding me.

I just read a script review for the FF movie, and my head almost exploded when I saw that name. Van Damn???? Bad enough to change the name, but to remind us of some washed up gymnast 'actor' is too much. The movie might be the best thing ever put on film, but that name change is going to ruin it for me.

Doctor Doom is to comics what Darth Vader is to film. To change his name is a travesty of comic book justice.

Arachnoidfreak
The movie is based on the new Ultimate Fantastic Four comic line. Blame Brian Michael Bendis for the name change, its in the comic. I was pissed to see it too. Victor Van Damme....fvck that shit. I'm pretty sure he keeps the name "Doctor Doom" though. just his real name is changed.

Creechuur
Wow, Bendis did that? He's a great writer, why would he do something so stupid?

Austinzilla
they changed his name!!! confused

nooooooooooooo! no

that makes me mad!!! mad

...and sick to my stomach sick

Creechuur
The only way this can be excused is if Gary Oldman plays Doom.

Austinzilla
yeah he could have the Von Doom look

ScarletSpider
I have no idea why they did it in Ult. FF. They changed his background too, he's now a descendant of Vlad Tepes, or Vlad "The Impaler" the guy that supposedly gave Bram Stoker the idea for Dracula, a pretty depraved, psychotic and blood thirsty monarch. And his armor was natural, he shed his skin after going through a jaunt in the Negative Zone with the FF.

Austinzilla
they changed all that?? miffed .....thats disgusting

ScarletSpider
Yeah. And his Ultimate Mom is Martha Stewart.

Arachnoidfreak
laughing yea, they did change all that. i hate that they made his armor his skin. they kinda messed up on Vlad's second name(or alias, nickname, whatever) too. Dracula does not mean "son of the Devil." Dracul means "dragon", and when you add the suffux "a" it means "son of" so it actually means "Son of the Dragon" Vlad's father's nickname was "Dracul" so it would make sense that Vlad is Dracula.

Oldman ROCKS. He is the ultimate villain. and he was Dracula too, in Bram Stoker's Dracula. (also with Keanu Reeves and Anthony Hopkins. and Wynnona Ryder)

Creechuur
Bendis, what have you done? Doom's armor is part of his skin??? What??? Can someone explain that a bit more?

Reading Powers will be a bitter pill indeed from now on.

What other changes have been made in ultimate FF? I'm not a big FF fan, but Doom is the s#!t.

Glad you guys like the Oldman suggestion. Can't you just picture his eyes staring out of that armor with seething hatred?

Arachnoidfreak
Oldman RULZ1!!11one!1(sorry i had to do that)

Victor is pulled through the Negative Zone(or N-Zone) with the rest of the Fantastic Four. They all get superpowers from it, Reed gets to be strechy, Sue gets invisibility, Johnny gets fire, Ben is a big rock, and Victor's skin turns into metal. just pick up the Ultimate Fantastic Four TPB Vol. 1 and then issue 7(neither are out yet, so you have to wait a bit, or go to www.milehighcomics.com to see the #7 preview)

ScarletSpider
Yeah, much like Ben's skin turns to rock, Victor's turns to metal, akin to "fine Wallachian armor" or something like that, Doom's own words. They likened the changes to being representative of the elements. Reed = water, Sue = air, Ben = rocks (duh) Johnny = fire (duh again). On some other board they were discussing a promo pic, saying that Victor was metal, and Man-Thing was wood/plants which are considered elements in some asian culture. Supposedly.
