Pokemon : anime or not?

Some people say Pokemon is anime others say its not. What do you think?

Anime definition is cartoons made in japan.
Pokemon was made in Japan by Nintendo,and a man nammed Satoshi Tajiri(which is weird cause Satoshi is Ash's real name)

it's not, and it's quite crappy made compared to other "real" anime

It is an anime, for those reasons.

Anime is the Japanese word for animation. Therefore, Pokemon is anime.

But a rather crappy one, to be honest.

Obviously it's an anime. So, it's a crappy anime; big deal. Contrary to what the more rabid fans seem to think, there isn't some universal law that anime has to be good; I think that the people who say Pokemon isn't "real" anime just haven't managed to cope with that fact.

Anime=Japanese shorthand word for "animation," Japanese, American, or otherwise. In America, it's come to mean animated cartoons from Japan alone. So even by the American definition, Pokemon is anime.

Yes, unfortunately Pokemon IS real anime, though not a very good one.

I do like Pokemon,its mega-cute.You ppl don't seem to get that its aimed for kids..thats just immature.My fondest memories are sitting with my friend Nash watching pokemon/drawing our own monsters.Admit it..you liked it as a kid or you knew someone who dud.ITS MADE FOR KIDS PEOPLE!

So are Digimon, Card Captor Sakura, Justice League of America, and any number of other shows I enjoy. I'm judging it by the standards set by these kids shows, and finding it wanting; being made for kids is therefore not an excuse.

And no, I didn't like it as a kid. I'm not sure Pokemon was even over here when I was a kid (although I've always bee pretty oblivious to pop culture, so it wouldn't surprise me)--all of my childhood memories are of Teenage Muntant Ninja Turtles and Masters of the Universe (two other kids shows that I liked more than Pokemon, incidently).

It's an Anime. We might wish it wasn't but it is.

I must say BlackHatDefect just because you like the show dosn't mean everyone did or does. I never liked it as a kid and neither did any of my friends.

I think the idea of Pokemon was directed at a younger audience. Pokemon exceeded in popularity after the first movie. But even since then pokemon has drop. The younger audience has grown tired of the repetetive cartoon episodes. So, I just think that pokemon was an anime mostly for kids.
