The one person that matters the most to me was fired from his job yesterday. He worked as a DJ at a very pristegious radio station.
He has very strong beliefs when dealing with certain issues. Recently, he sent emails to state legislatures urging them to give the citizens the right to vote on the proposed marraige amendment. He happened to mention his position at the radio station, and the name of the radio station.
Yesterday, they called him into work for a meeting. They gave him no warning at all. He was questioned about the email, and he said that he had, in fact, sent it. The owner of the station was visibly upset with this. He gave him no second chance, no slap on the hand, not even a suspension. He was fired.
Now knowing he had lost his job, my friend felt that he had nothing else to lose, and let him know how he felt. He told the owner that he knew he hadn't cared for my friend ever since he started there. He said that this was only an excuse to get rid of him. This set the owner off. He stood in front of the door, not allowing my friend to leave, and and said "Don't F*** with me." Then he demanded my friend's key to his locker. When my friend refused to hand over the key until he had retrieved his belongings from it, the owner had the manager escort my friend out of the building.
First question: Was this appropriate behavior by the owner over such an issue?
Second question: Was this fair grounds for termination, or would a warning/ suspension/ demotion have been more appropriate?
