whats your favourite verse or poem from the lord of the rings?
myne's

Tall ships, tall kings three times three,
what brought them from the founded land,
over the flowing sea?
seven stars, seven stones and one white tree.

lol cheeky Nazgul Lord,

I am a Sock
I don't know many poems or songs. I would say something from Of Beren and Luthien is my fav

Arroch

Discos
ya dont know much songs or poems AE?

just resite something from the books

I'm dead...
1.
Seek for the sword that was broken:
In Imladris it dwells;
There shall be counsels taken
Stronger than Morgul spells.
There shall be shown a token
That doom is near at hand,
For Isildur's bane shall waken,
And the Halfling forth shall stand.

2. Funeral Lament for King Theoden
Out of doubt, out of dark, to the day's rising
He rode singing in the sun, sword unsheathing.
Hope he rekindled, and in hope ended;
Over death, over dread, over doom lifted
Out of loss, out of life, unto long glory.

3. Bilbo's song
I sit beside the fire and think
of all that I have seen,
of meadow-flowers and butterflies
in summers that have been:

Of yellow leaves and gossamer
in autumns that there were,
with morning mist and silver sun
and wind upon my hair.

I sit beside the fire and think
of how the world will be
when winter comes without a spring
that I shall ever see.

For still there are so many things
that I have never seen:
in every wood in every spring
there is a different green.

I sit beside the fire and think
of people long ago,
and people who will see a world
that I shall never know.

But while I sit and think
of times that were before,
I listen for returning feet
and voices at the door

4. And of course, this one. I just love it so much. happy
All that is gold does not glitter
Not all those who wander are lost
The old that is strong does not wither
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken
A light from the shadow shall spring
Renewed shall be blade that was broken.
The crownless again shall be king.

BloomBabyGirl
i love the song pippin sings to borimirs dad. does NE 1 kno the words?

I'm dead...
Erm...

Home is behind
The world ahead
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadow
To the edge of night
Until the stars are all alight

Mist and shadow
Cloud and shade
Hope shall fail
All shall fade

I am a Sock
I like this one:
Oh, you can seacrh far and wide
You can drink the whole town dry
But you'll never find a beer so brown
As the one we drink in our hometown
You can drink your fancy ales
You can drink 'em by the flagon
But the only brew for the brave and true
Comes from the Green Dragon

Quenya or Sindarin? I think it's sindarin. I understood 2 words in that poem, lol

Nazgul lord
yup it can be what ever you like.

Montross
The One Ring inscription/verse.

Exabyte
It's Quenya, or a kinda oldfashioned version of it (old in the sense of "early form of the invented quenya", not early in the history of arda) smile

(for the difference of the languages - there are some obvious things, like there is no Qu/Q in Sindarin and as the beginnings of words are often mutated when consonantal, you rarely find non-mutated beginnings, that would for example be "hard" (voiceless) plosives like t, p, c/k; they are a lot more common in Quenya.
On the other hand, Quenya doesn't have dh, gh, th etc or no g, d, b except in combination with r, l or a nasal - the words also never end with consonants except for n, d, t, s, r, l while in sindarin consonantal endings are quite usual / more common than vocalic ones.
Generally, Quenya sounds a lot harder and clearer and somehow nobler than Sindarin which is more flowing. If you read some texts in both languages, youl soon see the difference big grin )

happy happy SO beautiful... so sad... wonderful text smile
(translation of a part of the Elbereth-poem, right? "o queen beyond the western seas, light to us that wander amid the world of woven trees..."wink

szhismine
here are my faves:

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread.
Through shadow, to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Mist and shadow, cloud and shade,
All shall fade, all shall... fade.

Grey as a mouse,
Big as a house,
Nose like a snake,
I make the earth shake,
As I tramp through the grass;
Trees crack as I pass.
With horns in my mouth,
I walk in the south,
Flapping big ears.
Beyond count of years
I stump round and round,
Never lie on the ground,
Not even to die.
Oliphaunt am I,
Biggest of all,
Huge, old and tall.
If ever you'd meet me,
You wouldn't forget me.
If you never do,
You won't think I'm true.
But old Oliphaunt am I,
And I never lie.

Oh, you can seacrh far and wide
You can drink the whole town dry
But you'll never find a beer so brown
As the one we drink in our hometown
You can drink your fancy ales
You can drink 'em by the flagon
But the only brew for the brave and true
Comes from the Green Dragon

Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne,
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them,
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.

The Road goes ever on and on,
Down from the door where it began
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow if I can.
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet,
And whither then I cannot say.

and the one that Gimli Aragorn n Legolas sing when Boromir has died n they are putting him in the river.....its sad...but i like it....

Exabyte
Yea its SO beautiful smile smile and so sad sad

Aragorn:
Through Rohan over fen and field where the long grass grows
The West Wind comes walking, and about the walls it goes.
'What news from the West, O wandering wind, do you bring to me tonight?
Have you seen Boromir the Tall by moon or by starlight?'
'I saw him ride over seven streams, over waters wide and grey;
I saw him walk in empty lands, until he passed away
Into the shadows of the North. I saw him then no more.
The North Wind may have heard the horn of the son of Denethor.'
'O Boromir! From the high walls westward I looked afar,
But you came not from the empty lands where no men are.'

Legolas:
From the mouths of the Sea the South Wind flies, from the sandhills and the stones;
The wailing of the gulls it bears, and at the gate it moans.
'What news from the South, O sighing wind, do you bring to me at eve?
Where now is Boromir the Fair? He tarries and I grieve.'
'Ask not of me where he doth dwell -- so many bones there lie
On the white shores and the dark shores under the stormy sky;
So many have passed down Anduin to find the flowing Sea.
Ask of the North Wind news of them the North Wind sends to me!'
'O Boromir! Beyond the gate the seaward road runs south,
But you came not with the ailing gulls from the grey sea's mouth.'

Aragorn:
From the Gate of Kings the North Wind rides, and past the roaring falls;
And clear and cold about the tower its loud horn calls.
'What news from the North, O mighty wind, do you bring to me today?
What news of Boromir the Bold? For he is long away.'
'Beneath Amon Hen I heard his cry. There many foes he fought.
His cloven shield, his broken sword, they do the water brought.
His head so proud, his face so fair, his limbs they laid to rest;
And Rauros, golden Rauros-falls, bore him upon its breast.'
'O Boromir! The Tower of Guard shall ever northward gaze
To Rauros, golden Rauros-falls, until the end of days.'

Another poem I love is the one of the Barrowwwwwighties happy Gollum recites a part of it in the film..

Flying High
i cant remeber it..........

Exabyte
Cold be hand and heart and bone
Cold be sleep under stone

... something like that, Im not sure about it...

Cold be hand and heart and bone,
and cold be sleep under stone:
never more to wake on stony bed,
never, til the Sun fails and the Moon is dead.
In the black wind the stars shall die,
and still on gold here let them lie,
till the dark lord lifts his hand
over dead sea and withered land.

I think smile

Flying High
oh....i dont rember it,...but i like it lol...

Exabyte
Gollum sings something like

Cold be hand and heart and bone
Cold be travellers far from home.
They do not see what lies ahead
When sun has failed and moon is dead.

Nazgul lord
me to love that one.
