Blair witch project was one of the most over hyped films, Yeah it was scary in parts. but the ending was a bit of a let down it could have been a bit better.

I thought the movie was absolutely rubbish. I agree, it was too hyped up over 3 people in the woods.

botankus
Way too hyped up, definately.

BUT

That movie suckered in so many people to question whether it was true or not the weekend it opened (July 16-18, 1999), and they did it perfectly with their website and the way they publicized that movie.

Got to give them credit for that....at least for one weekend anyways.

the idea of the story was pretty cool and so was the filming.
but the movie in general... i wasnt expecting much so it didnt phase me one bit.

mook
if you were one of the first to see it and not sure if it was real it would have a huge effect on you.

the hype did mean people were expecting more from it.

i really enjoyed it.

eggmayo
were the releasers actually making it out to be a videotape that someone found in a wood?

amlap
yeah... the whoel idea was marvelous. where i am from everyone was talking bout it and saying how they found those tapes.

what a great concept!

Striel
I liked it pretty well. The second one was awful.

mook
i actually enjoyed the second one.

although it was a cash-in on the name and was a more conventional film i thought it had some good stuff in.

amlap
wow thats a brave comment!

BackFire
The first one is one of the better horror films of the past 10 years. At least it tried to do something a bit different then other horror films.

Elektra_lover
The movie sucked sooooooooooo much

Stormeister
I had an opportunity to see it but didnt because I heard some bad comments about it but after what BF said I might give it a try smile

Eh, I saw it when it debuted at the Mall of America's AMC 24. It was eerily realistic, I will give it that. The ending was disappointing, however.

As for the 2nd one, may as well just forget it. Where "BWP" borrowed it's "witchhunt" angle from "The Last Broadcast", "Book of Shadows" picked up and took the "documentary" storyline from it.

The sequel was totally unnecessary. What made the 1st movie so successful is the realism. You could tell that the sequel was a studio flick, and not an indie endeavour like the original.

Alot is lost in an independent franchise when a studio's money comes into play.

The original blair witch is a great flick. The style of the documentary motif wasnt the first time this was attempted, but the first time it was done well. I see why people wouldnt like it. It is a film that forces the audience to do as much work as it took to be made. You literally have to put yourself inside of the movie for the full effect. It is a film that became what it is on great acting and a big risk. The whole media interplay was just brilliant, i greatly appreciated the ploy as a horror fan.
This movie also has one of my favorite horror movie scenes, when they come across all of the hanging stick men in the midst of an eerie clearing in the middle of a heavy forested area.

As for the second, though it was unecessary i enjoyed the movie alot. Some parts seemed rushed, but for the most part i believe it came out to be a fairly full movie. The cinemetography in the film was great, as were the characters. Most all sequals are not needed, and what did you really expect

Cinemaddiction
To see what happened to Heather and the crew, not a group of fanboys/fangirls on a mission, trying to catch a ghost.

By the way, I am not sure that it is available on DVD, but the VHS "Curse of the Blair Witch" is a great suppliment to the movie, a solid, short prequel/follow up.

There would have been no lagitamant way to pull that off and give off the presence that the original created. They knew there was no way to top the original, so they totally broke away and went the opposite direction to try somthing new.If you look at it as a sequal it doesnt work, but if you look at it as another story, i think it was fair attempt that suceeded in some psycho horror

BackFire
The original is one of the better horror films of the past decade, the sequel, is arguably the worst horror movie I have ever seen. It's rating on the cheese meter is off the charts.

ragesRemorse
how so though, what was so bad about it?

BackFire
Well, it had nothing to do with the original. It was a poor attempt to cash in on the popularity and success of the original. I don't remember much about it in particular, it's been quite a while since I've seen it (saw it one time during it's theatrical release, have no interest in seeing it again). I just remember watching it going "wow, this is bad". Also, that stupid rave scene, where they're running around a fire naked is just stupid, much like most of the movie.

Stormeister
Oh come on theres gotta be worser horror movies wink

Cinemaddiction
Well, that's true, but this one is definately in the bowels of horror movie purgatory, along with "Skinned Alive", "House fof the Dead", and countless other failed 80's horrors.

BackFire
See, most bad horror movies have at least some novelty value, and can be enjoyed because of their badness. It makes them somewhat funny. Blair Witch 2 is the oposite. It has nothing going for it.

Stormeister
I see confused

Xtremechik2
My friend and I were both really excited to see Blair Witch when it came out because we heard how scary it was, but we were really dissapointed afterwards. I really didn't like it. I really think the second one is much better
