The Force
hey if you could explain the x-men, and their powers fully with science how would you, could you explain why cyclops shoot that optic blast or why nightcrawler teleports?

You can make it up if you want, i 'll explain a character that i made up, alittle later thumb up

Viper
This could be interesting. Let me see what I can come up with...

Nightcrawler - His powers could be based off of several different aspects of quantum physics, but the easiest would be that he can shift between dimensions. While we can only observe 3 dimensions, there are in reality several others that are folded upon themselves. If he was born with a dysfunction of his brain that would allow him to see these other dimensions, he could travel through them and to anywhere he wants (or anywhere he's close to anyway).

Cyclops - One could argue that his corneas have a chemical imbalance that allow them to store subatomic particles. As more and more of these particles enter the eyes, they begin to jam and heat up. Then when released, the heat travels outward in a beam of energy so dense that it can blast through most objects.

Rogue - Probably the easiest to explain, although the most far-fetched. Because of mutation, her skin cells could contain blank DNA. When in contact with other cells, it could absorb the DNA and gain the mutated powers.

I have no idea how close these are to the actual explanations (if there are any) but they're all scientifically feasable.

thorncrawler
shadowcat has the ability to slow down the particals in her body, alowing her to pas through thinghs!

sandman26
or speed them up same as flash

thorncrawler
Quicksilver has very powerful leg muscles and so can pump them faster and therefor goes faster

The Force
or he can just move his legs faster and he's more aerodynamic

VENOMfan
Cyclops possesses the mutant ability to project a beam of concussive, ruby-colored force from his eyes. Cyclops's eyes are no longer the complex organic jelly that utilizes the visible spectrum of light to see the world around it. Instead, they are inter-dimensional apertures between this universe and another, non-Einsteinium universe, where physical laws as we know them do not pertain. This non-Einsteinium universe is filled with particles that resemble photons, yet they interact with this universe's particles by transferring kinetic energy in the form of gravitons (the particle of gravitation). These particles generate great, directional concussive force when they interact with the objects of this universe.

Cyclops's mind has a particular psionic field that is attuned to the forces that maintain the apertures that have taken the place of his eyes. Because his mind's psionic field envelops his body, it automatically shunts the other-dimensional particles back into their point of origin when they collide with his body. Thus, his body is protected from the effects of the particles, and even the thin membrane of his eyelids is sufficient to block the emission of energy. The synthetic ruby quartz crystal used to fashion the lenses of Cyclops's eyeglasses and visor is resonant to his minds' psionic field and is similarly protected.

The width of Cyclops's eye-blast seems to be focused by his mind's psionic field with the same autonomic function that regulated his oriinal eyes' ability to focus. As Cyclops focuses, the size of the aperture changes and thus act as a valve to control the flow of particles and beam's relative power. The height of Cyclops's eye-blast is controlled by his visor's adjustable slit. His narrowest beam, about the diameter of a pencil at a distance of 4 feet has a force of about 2 pounds per square inch. His broadest beam, about 90 feet across at a distance of 50 feet, has a force of about 10 pounds per square inch. His most powerful eye-blast is a beam 4 feet across which, at a distance of 50 feet, has a force of 500 pounds per square inch. The maximum angular measurement of Cyclops's eye-blast is equivalent to a wide-angle 35mm camera lens field of view (90 degree measured diagonally, or the angle subtended by holding this magazine's pages spread open, upright at 9.5 inches from your eyes). The minimum angular measurement is equivalent to the angle that the thickness of a pencil would subtend at 4 feet (3.5 degree, about a quarter of an inch viewed at 4 feet). The beam's effective range is about 2,000 feet, at which point a 1-inch beam has spread out to 10 feet square, and then has a pressure of .38 pounds per square inch. Cyclops's maximum force is sufficient to tip over a filled 5,000 gallon tank at a distance of 20 feet, or puncture a 1-inch carbon-steel plate at a distance of 2 feet.

The extra dimensional supply of energy for Cyclops's eye-blast is practically infinite. Thus, so long as Cyclops's psionic field is active (which is constantly), there is the potential to emit energy. The only limit to the eye-blast is the mental fatigue of focusing constantly. After about 15 minute of constant usage, the psionic field subsides and allows only a slight leakage of energy to pass through the aperture. Cyclops's metabolism will recover sufficiently for him to continue in about an additional 15 minutes.

Special limitations: Due to a brain injury, Cyclops is unable to shut off his optic blasts at will and must therefore wear a visor or glasses with ruby quartz lenses that block the beams.

Equipment: The mask Cyclops wears to prevent random discharge is lined with powdered ruby quartz crystal. It incorporates two longitudinally mounted flat lenses which can lever inward providing a constantly variable exit slot of 0 inches to .79 inches in height and a constant width of 5.7 inches. The inverted clamshell mechanism is operated by a twin system of miniature electrical motors. As a safety factor their is a constant positive closing pressure provided by springs. The mask itself is made of high-impact cycolac plastic. There is an overriding finger-operated control mechanism on either side of the mask, and normal operation is through a flat micro-switch installed in the thumb of either glove.

er sorta

This is gonna be one hell of a confusing thread yes Great thread but confusing big grin

VENOMfan
any request's?

Twin B!tch 1
hmm, wolverine?

Viper
Wolverine would be easy to answer. He just has an increased metabolism that allows his cells to replicate at a high rate.

Twin B!tch 1
but what about the senses and bone claws?

Viper
The high senses and high strength could be from a mutation in his adrenal gland. Instead of pumping adrenaline only during times of stress, he would recieve a constant, very potent flow.

The bone claws would come from the de-evolution of particular DNA. It would have reverted back to earlier animal cell structure and form the claws.

eristole
this was actually explained in a few comics and a few x-men books..
there is an X-gene(yeah everyones heard of it..) it is just like normal
human cells except that when certain kinds of input is put into it.. a
varying output comes out with more power than what went in(which is
by all means of the physical universe impossible, because energy cant
be created or destroyed just change forms.) but i'll try to find the comic
or books in which they explained it all.. but thats from the science point
of view..

good job everyone, but venom you might want to change a few things
about cyclops.. he cannot use his optic blast's unless they are charged
up by solar energy.. (i am pretty sure its the same way for havok.) if
he goes into the morlock tunnels for instance. his powers will only work
until they have been spent or die off because they are no longer being
charged. /shrug that's just one of those wierd almost unknown facts about. his visors are actually meant to block the sun out and let it in at
certain increments which allow him to vary the size or strength of his
blasts..

The Force
My character explained

Power: The ability to produce and manipulate forcefields, that affect only solid things.

His power is produced from his body, not his mind, his x-gene activates when he tenses his muscle then hib brain tells his forcefield to come out. The forcefield first comes out of the pores in his skin, and then expand out in a spherical shape, he can change the shape of the forcefield with his thoughts, and his forcefield blocks out everything that is solid. His forcefield can expand to about 100 yards, but whenever he is angry it causes his muscles to tense up more than normal, which results in his forcefield to be more powerful, come out twice as fast, and be 2 and large.

I'll explain more later, but i'll freely take questions about my charaecter

VENOMfan
sorry bout the wait here's wolverine

Known Superhuman Powers: Wolverine is a mutant with a number of enhancements to his physiology. Wolverine possesses heightened senses, making him capable of seeing things at a maximum distance greater than that of a normal human. His hearing is enhanced in a similar manner, and he is able to recognize people and objects by scent, even if that person or object is hidden. Logan can use these enhanced senses to track anyone, with an impressive degree of success.

He possesses retractable bone claws that are housed in his forearms, they are part of his skeleton system. At will Wolverine can release these claws through his skin between the knuckles on each hand. The skin between the knuckles tears and bleeds, but bleeding is quickly halted by his healing factor. The claws are naturally sharp and tougher than that of normal human bone structure. This allows Wolverine to be able to cut through most types of flesh and natural materials. (Note: While Wolverine possessed his adamantium skeleton, his claws were able to cut through almost any material without any fear of damage to the claws.)

Lastly, Wolverine possesses an accelerated healing factor based on his physiology. While most normal humans heal injuries over a long period of time, Wolverine's healing factor speeds up that natural process. Wolverine's natural healing has been advanced to the point where he can heal extensive injuries (such as broken limbs) in a matter of hours to days. This factor gives him a higher resistance to poisons and toxins, and he can recover from almost any injury. The more extensive the injury, the longer the healing time will be.

Wolverine is not immortal, however. If the injuries are extensive enough, especially if they result in the loss of vital organs, large amounts of blood, and/or loss of physical form (such as having flesh burned away by fire or acid), Logan can die.

Wolverine, again due to his healing factor, has an enhanced resistance to disease, as well as an extended life span. Despite Wolverine's chronological age, he is still as healthy and physically fit as a man in his prime.

Abilities: Due to his extensive training as a CIA operative, a Samurai, and as a member of the Weapon X program, Wolverine is a master of multiple forms of martial arts, weapons, and vehicles. He is also a trained expert in computers, explosives, and assassination techniques.

cool

VENOMfan
really anyone ask for any of marvel's character's

Herr Logan
You should all be aware that there is a book called "The Science of the X-Men." I own it, and I can't say it's the most interesting read, but some characters' entries are kinda cool. Several potential answers for selected X-Men are in there.

Kes
I dont own the book, have no intention on owning the book (at least for now) so...Storm?

The Force
I wanna make a request, hmmmm, Gambit

VENOMfan
ok Gambit

Stength: Gambit is a mutant who possesses the normal human strength of a man of his age, height, and build who engages in intensive regular exercise.

Fighting skills: Excellent hand-to-hand combatant, utilizing streetfighting techniques and acrobatics

Special skills and abilities: Bilingual in English and French, ability to throw small objects, including knives, throwing spikes, and playing cards, with extraordinary accuracy

Known superhuman powers: Gambit has the mutant ability to tap into the potential energy contained within an object and transform it into kinetic energy. When Gambit thus charges an object with kinetic energy and throws it at a target, the object releases this energy explosively on impact.

sorry there wasnt more about him

The Force
is there a time limit to the explosion?

VENOMfan
well it dosent say, but im sure he can here is the rest, tho it's not so much about abilities

History: A homeless boy wandering the streets, Gambit was adopted by Jean-Luc LeBeau, head of the council of the Thieves Guild, a criminal organization based in New Orleans. As part of a peace pact between the Thieves Guild and their rivals, the Assassins Guild, a marriage was arranged between Gambit and Bella Donna Boudreaux, the granddaughter of the head of the Assassins. However, Bella Donna's brother Julien objected to the marriage and challenged Gambit to a duel. Severely wounding Julien, Gambit was forced to flee New Orleans to prevent war between the two guilds.

Gambit wandered the world as he plied his skills as a master thief, aided by his mutant power to charge objects with explosive energy. He employed playing cards he charged with kinetic energy as his trademark weapon. At one point Gambit agreed to assemble the team of assassins called the Marauders for Mister Sinister. Gambit did not realize that Sinister would employ the Marauders to massacre the underground mutant community called the Morlocks.

Eventually, Gambit encountered the X-Man Storm, who had been transformed into an amnesiac child and who had turned to theft. He helped her escape her enemy, the Shadow King, and they became partners. Later, when Professor Charles Xavier returned from a long period of traveling in outer space, Storm, having regained her memory and true age, sponsored Gambit's admission into the X-Men. Gambit has remained on the team ever since and fell in love with his fellow X-Man Rogue. Recently, however, Gambit and Rogue have grown apart. As for Bella Donna, she has become Gambit's enemy. Recently, the X-Men learned of Gambit's role in the massacre of the Morlocks. Guilt-ridden, Gambit has left the team, at least temporarily.

In the alternate future in which the X-Man Bishop was born, Gambit has become an aged figure who witnessed the betrayal of the X-Men by one of their own members. Bishop suspected Gambit was the traitor until he learned how Xavier's mind spawned the malevolent entity Onslaught.

any other request's?

eristole
There is a time limit to the explosion, since were doing scientific stuff here goes..

Mr. Lebeau has the ability to rearrange the atoms of any object into a kinetic energy(kind of like rubbing your feet on the carpet, theres always a kinetic energy in everything). His power allows him to bring this to the surface and control it. which is why he can decharge an object.

The problem is when he was a child his power grew out of control at first.
much like cyclop's had to have a visor to keep his under control. Mr. lebeau
was found by a nice elderly gentleman named Dr. essex who using genetic engineering placed a block on it, to where he had to actually have
physical contact with an object to control it's particles. As a child he was
raised up on the street's. where he had a fascination with card tricks.
Eventually learning them himself he began to use his talents to turn a
quick buck, or for defense of himself or those he loved. Since he always
had a card deck it just became natural for them to be his weapon of
choice.

and that concludes my stupid yet oh so boring lecture on mr. lebeau.
now get out there and kick some mutant fanny!

Paola
what about Kes request???

and mine would be Psylocke, please?

Group affiliation: (current) X-Men, (former) Leader of the Morlocks
First appearance: GIANT-SIZE X-MEN #1

History: Storm is the descendant of an ancient line of African priestesses, all of whom have white hair, blue eyes, and the potential to wield magic. Her mother, N'Dare, was the princess of a tribe in Kenya. She married the American photojournalist David Munroe and moved with him to Manhattan, where Ororo was born.

When Ororo was six months old, she and her parents moved to Cairo, Egypt. Five years later, a bomb destroyed their home. Ororo's parents were killed, but she survived, buried under rubble near her mother's body. This traumatizing effect left Ororo with the severe claustrophobia that still afflicts her today.

Homeless and orphaned, Ororo, came under the tutelage of master thief Achmed el-Gibar. She became his prize pupil in thievery and in picking locks.

Years later, feeling a strong urge to go south, Ororo journeyed alone across the Sahara Desert and finally reached her ancestors' homeland, the Serengeti Plain, which lies in the modern nations of Kenya and Tanzania. By this time her mutant power to control the weather had emerged, and she used them to help the local tribes, who worshipped her as a goddess.

Ororo remained with the tribes for years until Professor Charles Xavier recruited her into the new team of X-Men he was assembling. She was given the code name "Storm" after her power to affect the weather. Except for brief periods away from the team, Storm has remained in the X-Men ever since and shares leadership of the X-Men with Cyclops.

Height: 5 ft. 11 in.
Weight: 127 lbs.
Eyes: Blue
Hair: White

Strength level: Athlete

Flight speed: Subsonic (when propelled by winds)

Fighting skills: Excellent hand-to-hand combatant, trained by Wolverine

Special skills and abilities: Extraordinary ability at picking locks, excellent marksman with handguns

Known superhuman powers: Storm has the psionic ability to control the weather over limited areas. She can fly by creating winds strong enough to support her weight. Storm has limited immunity to extreme heat and cold.

Special limitations: Storm's psionic powers over the weather are affected by her emotions; hence, if she does not maintain control of her emotions, a fit of rage might induce a destructive storm. Also, Storm suffers from severe claustrophobia.

Other accessories: Storm carries lock picks.

Occupation: (current) Adventurer, (former) Fashion model, operative for S.T.R.I.K.E. Psi Division, (as Lady Mandarin) Assassin
Legal status: Subject of the United Kingdom with no criminal record
Place of birth: Braddock Manor, England
Marital status: Single
Known relatives: James Braddock, Sr. (father, deceased), Elizabeth Braddock (mother, deceased), Brian Braddock (Captain Britain, brother), James "Jamie" Braddock, Jr. (brother)

Group affiliation: X-Men, (former) S.T.R.I.K.E. Psi Division (British division of S.H.I.E.L.D.)
First appearance: (U. K.) CAPTAIN BRITAIN (Vol. 1) #8, (U. S.) NEW MUTANTS ANNUAL #2

History: Elizabeth "Betsy" Braddock is the daughter of Dr. James Braddock, who was once a denizen of Otherworld, an other-dimensional realm. A being who called himself Merlin (but who may not actually be the wizard of Arthurian legend) sent Braddock to Earth to father the champion who would be known as Captain Britain.

Living in England, Dr. Braddock became one of the United Kingdom's leading research scientists. He married a woman named Elizabeth and they bought the mansion they renamed Braddock Manor. There Dr. Braddock created a highly advanced computer complex called Mastermind (which is not to be confused with the two mutants of the same name).

Dr. and Mrs. Braddock's three children, the eldest, Jamie, and the twins, Brian and Elizabeth (nicknamed "Betsy"wink, inherited genes from their father that endowed them with superhuman powers. The children's powers, however, remained latent for many years.

Dr. and Mrs. Braddock were killed in an explosion in Dr. Braddock's laboratory at Braddock Manor that was caused by the malfunctioning computer Mastermind.

Brian Braddock eventually became the costumed champion known as Captain Britain. Betsy developed the psychic ability which she used in the service of S.T.R.I.K.E., a British division of the international law enforcement agency S.H.I.E.L.D. Betsy also developed a highly successful career as a fashion model. She knew of Brian's double identity, and the two siblings took up residence in Braddock Manor.

Members of a British government agency called R.C.X., knowing that Brian Braddock was Captain Britain, attempted to recruit him to work with them. Refusing to be exploited by the government, Brian Braddock gave up the role of Captain Britain. The R.C.X. agents then persuaded Betsy to become the new Captain Britain, working with them. Betsy used a costume taken from an otherdimensional counterpart of Brian, which magnified her strength to superhuman levels when she wore it and enabled her to fly. Another other-dimensional hero, Captain UK, trained Betsy to become a crimefighter, and the two acted as partners on missions together for many weeks.

Finally, Betsy launched her solo career as the new Captain Britain, which came to a quick end when she went into battle against two of the original Captain Britain's arch foes, the Vixen and Slaymaster. Wearing a battle suit that amplified his own strength, Slaymaster savagely beat Betsy nearly to death and blinded her. Sensing her telepathic cries of agony, Brian Braddock rushed to his sister's rescue and fought and killed Slaymaster. Realizing he could not forsake his responsibilities, Brian resumed his role as Captain Britain.

Betsy went to Switzerland to recuperate. While there she was taken prisoner by the other-dimensional creature known as Mojo. Mojo took control of Betsy and gave her new, artificial eyes, thereby restoring her sight. Betsy was rescued through the intervention of the New Mutants, a team of adolescent mutants. Having regained her free will, Betsy chose to remain at the New Mutants' home, Professor Charles Xavier's mansion in Westchester County, New York, which also served as the secret headquarters of the mutant adventurers called the X-Men.

Betsy proved her courage to the X-Men by resisting the attack of their enemy Sabretooth when he broke into the mansion. As a result she was accepted into the ranks of the X-Men, becoming a costumed adventurer once more under the code name Psylocke.

Later, Psylocke was captured by the crime lord Matsu'o Tsurayaba. Seeking to save the life of his lover, the female assassin Kwannon, Tsurayaba oversaw a process through which the minds of Kwannon and the X-Man Psylocke switched bodies. In the process Kwannon's mind melded with that of Psylocke, endowing each of them with the same memories and telepathic abilities. Tsurayaba brainwashed Psylocke and turned her over to one of Earth's most dangerous men, the Mandarin. Under the name of Lady Mandarin, Psylocke briefly served the Mandarin, but ultimately Psylocke regained her free will and returned to the X-Men.

Later Kwannon, in Psylocke's body, became an ally of the X-Men, calling herself Revanche. For a time there was confusion among the X-Men as to who was the "real" Betsy Braddock. Finally, Revanche learned that she was dying from the Legacy Virus and had Tsurayaba kill her. Thus Betsy's original body died, but she lived on as Psylocke in Kwannon's original body.

Recently, Psylocke and her fellow X-Man, Angel, have fallen in love with each other. Psylocke was nearly killed by Sabretooth, but was healed by magical forces from a mystical dimension called the Crimson Dawn. However, Kuragari, a sinister being who had conquered the Crimson Dawn, attempted to corrupt Psylocke's personality through a mystical ring. Kuragari planned to make Psylocke his queen and through her father a genetically powerful bloodline. However, together Angel and Psylocke thwarted Kuragari, and Psylocke's mind is now free of Kuragari's influence.

A life-saving encounter with the other-dimensional energy source called the Crimson Dawn resulted in a more subtle, though no less meaningful, metamorphosis. Psylocke's fighting skills and telepathic talents were enhanced, and she acquired the ability to transport herself and others through shadows, as well as become one with the shadows. Also, the mark of the Crimson Dawn, a blade-like, red tattoo, appeared over her left eye. Betsy later sacrificed her psychic powers to forever imprison the telepathic criminal called the Shadow King in her astral shadow form, but subsequently acquired a range of telekinetic abilities.

Soon after, Betsy left Xavier's mansion with a small strike force of fellow X-Men in search of the diaries of the blind mutant seer known as Destiny, which map out human history for the next thousand years. While in Valencia, Spain, the team was captured by the Action Force of the Guardia Civil, that country's national police. Subjected to a battery of tests, the X-Men were released into a technologically fortified maze to gauge the their fighting abilities and mutant powers. Psylocke, the blue-furred Beast and the ability-absorbing Rogue found them selves in the headquarters' control center, separated from their teammates. There, they encountered Vargas, a criminal claiming to be the first manifestation of the next authentic generation of humanity, the pure and legitimate Homo sapiens superior. Her teammates wounded, Betsy engaged her opponent in a duel to the death, which ended when Vargas speared his sword through her abdomen. Psylocke's sudden demise left her teammates, and her lover, Thunderbird III, to balance the scales and complete the quest for Destiny's missing diaries.

Height: (both bodies) 5 ft. 11 in.
Weight: (both bodies) 155 lbs.
Eyes: (original body) Violet, (current body) Blue
Hair: (original body) Blonde, (current body) Black (dyed purple)
Other distinguishing features: Red tattoo over her left eye

Strength level: Psylocke possesses the normal human strength of a woman of her age, height, and build who engages in intensive regular exercise.

Known superhuman powers: Psylocke possesses many telepathic abilities, enabling her to read minds, communicate mentally with others over long distances, stun the minds of others with "mental bolts," control the minds of others, and create illusions in the minds of others. Psylocke can intensely focus her psionic powers into her "psychic knife," with which she can stun or kill an adversary.

The Force
do all the x-men have histories that long?

flavinho
i think that every mutant with telepathic and telekinetic abilities could be explained by the fact that their brains are more genetically evolved than simple human beings, as we only use about 9% of our brain's abilities in life.
Some people tried to kinda explain Storm's powers, but they're way complex...actually i can't think of how could she control the weather...her molecules or mind must be very powerful for that.
About Rogue, if she has cells with blank DNA, wouldn't she be no color in skin, hair, etc as the DNA gives us our body characteristics? What about her height? wouldn't it change everytime she touched someone? she would be more like Mystique, i think...
Speaking of Mystique, i think her mutation is easy to explain too. She just can change the structure of her molecules to appear like any other person or object.
About Angel, his power is strange, coz you can't fly only coz you have wings...actually birds have many other structures that allow them to fly, like "air pockets" (dunno how it is in English)...
For me, mutation has everything to do with our brains, as we still don know how powerful it is. People who have stigmata is an example. I knew a girl that could collapse or get a huge fever anytime she wanted. People who don feel pain are already known too...

Kes
Thanks for the Storm story. I thought her parents were killed when she was 6years blink This thread however is turning into a bio thread. So careful with that. The idea is to explain the powers not tell their life stories.

Jury Copeland
Yeah.. I've realized that before, kes...

but somebody used to post mutants' bio instead of explaining their powers.

so I just thought that the origin of their powers is best explained through BIOGRAPHY.

anyways.. STORM would be the first one .. and as well as the last...

most of the x-men's powers are really easy to explain. the only ones
that really bother me are some of the newer people in the x-team. it's
not physically possible for a body to just create new bone in an instant..

they went from reasonably explainable phenomena of nature, to just
what would look cool or fit the purpose of their book really =/

I used to love this thread, so I'm bringing this up once more.

It's really nice to discuss stuff like how the powers of a certain mutant works... be sure to adhere into a convincing scientific theory while trying to explain a mutant power.

So, may I continue the discussion with Blink?

How does Cannonball make himself a cannonball?

http://www.uncannyxmen.net/images/costume/cannonball-bigcostume11.jpg

With regard to his tragic history, Cannonball has the ability to generate thermochemical energy in the form of a "blast field" which envelops his body.

Originally, Sam's power only worked by transforming him into a human rocket -- activating his power caused a rush of energy to cover his body and discharge from beneath his feet, rendering him nigh-invulnerable and providing propulsion that launched him through the air. The blast field protected Sam and anything or anyone he carried close to his body from harm. Through training, Sam learned how to turn and maneuver in midair and to dull down the roar of his rocket power, making him a little more stealthy. He also learned how to control the buildup and release of his energies, enabling him to release his thermochemical power without automatically taking off. Sam could generate his blast field as a protective force around his body while standing still, and could increase the radius large enough to accommodate at least a half-dozen other people as well. Cannonball learned other tricks as well, such as projecting bio-kinetic force blasts from his hands, added a rocket burst behind his fists to increase the force behind his punches, expanding his field outwards as he struck a target to generate a kinetic shock wave on impact, and even sending his power out as a stream of energy to surround an opponent at arms' length, trapping them within a containing blast field. Though his blast field normally disperses kinetic impact and force directed against it, Sam has learned how to hold onto kinetic energy that hits his field, and re-channel it as a part of his own thermochemical force. Using this trick he has been seen enhancing both the rocket-punch and kinetic shock wave abilities mentioned above.

The Sonic Scream

http://www.uncannyxmen.net/images/costume/banshee-bigcostume2.jpg

Banshee and Siryn have superhumanly enhanced vocal chords enabling them to scream louder and longer than a normal person is capable. They can also modulate the wavelength and frequency of their "sonic scream" to produce different effects (apparently, this ability is at least partially psionic and not done solely by the vocal chords).

A sonic scream can be directed as concussive force, and modulated to perform other effects like shatter glass, crumble masonry, and even liquefy solid objects if the effect is sustained long enough at an intense level. By psionically causing the force of a sonic scream to be directed behind them, Sean and Theresa are able to propel themselves through the air and fly. By projecting a scream that manipulates the fluids in someone's inner ear, they can induce unconsciousness, nausea, vomiting, anxiety, or vertigo in opponents.

Banshee has used his power to generate sonic waves and map out his surrounding environment, and used sonics to disrupt electronic scanning equipment to make it incapable of properly detecting his presence. In her first appearances, Siryn used her powers to generate a force bubble of energy around herself for protection, and to hypnotize Angel into carrying our her bidding and battle his fellow X-Men. Both of them possess superhuman hearing, allowing them to still hear properly even over the sound of their own screams, and specially reinforced eardrums that are immune to the harmful effects of loud noises and various ranges of sonic frequencies.

Teleportation and Nature

http://www.uncannyxmen.net/images/spotlight/nightcrawler-bigcostume4.jpg

Nightcrawler has a number of unique physical traits, most of which he inherited from his parents, Azazel and Mystique. Kurt's entire body is covered with blue velvet fur. He has iridescent yellow eyes that increase his night vision, pointed ears, fangs, only two fingers and a thumb on each hand and only two toes on each foot plus a third digit which extends from the back of his heel. This third digit is highly dexterous and gives him opposable feet, allowing him to wrap them around and grab objects. He has a highly flexible spine which gives him peak human agility and acrobatic prowess. His prehensile tail is dexterous enough that he can hang from it on a trapezee or fence with it just as well as with his regular hands. Nightcrawler can stick to solid objects on contact, apparently through some natural suction ability concentrated onto his hands and feet, enabling him to cling to walls and scale vertical surfaces.

Hey, he also has mutant powers. Nightcrawler's body is constantly linked to an invisible wormhole-like effect, connecting him to the Brimstone Dimension. Normally, the only effect this wormhole has is absorbing the light from his immediate environment. As a result, Kurt's already-dark blue fur appears to be constantly cast in shadows. When he actually enters an area of shadow or subdued light, Kurt's body can appear to vanish entirely, becoming transparent and blending in with the darkness. When mentally triggered, the wormhole effect becomes active and transports him into the Brimstone Dimension. Nightcrawler then subconsciously travels a short distance within that realm before reappearing on Earth an instant later and some distance away. The transit through the Brimstone Dimension is completely intuitive and Kurt is not even aware of his time there. Both his entrances and exits are marked by a burst of flame, the stench of brimstone, and a sudden rushing of air which creates a BAMF noise. Nightcrawler's teleportation limits are defined by the direction he's travelling in, since the magnetic ley lines of our planet can affect his transits. By teleporting north-south (along the ley lines), Kurt can jaunt 3 miles at a time. Teleporting east-west (against the lines) enabling him to jaunt only 2 miles. A strictly vertical 'port straight up and down is the most difficult, and can only cover 1 mile of distance. Nimrod once scrambled Kurt's system electromagnetically, creating a constant disruptor effect which prevented Nightcrawler from 'porting more than once in a 24 hour period without risking incredible pain and the possibility of re-emerging inside a solid object. Ironically, months later, Doctor Doom attempted to perform the same attack on Nightcrawler not knowing it had already been done, and accidentally cured Kurt of his limitation.

oddly enough, and drunkly enough i'd actually like to try to figure out the why's and how's of blinks powers.

or frankly i'd just like to think really hard on any x-mans powers and how they could actually really work and what effects they would have on the person.. you know maybe that would be cool to put in, you know how telepaths have really bad headaches and their noses bleed sometimes when they use their powers way to much.. just things like that.. i get wierd when i get drunk.

That's what I really want, dude. But... that's too close to impossibility. sad

i just found that breaking the code game, and it's pretty cool although i'm pretty ****ing shocked it's taking people this long to figure it out man.
in a few minutes i figured out what took you explaining to those idiots who still don't get it, what just "some" of the riddle was. .

Actually... I hanged that thread up. Nobody has figured it out yet. happy I won't be posting the conclusion until somebody gets the Mystery Word. happy

Here is a pretty cool Quicksilver explanation. It actually makes sense, which shocked me.

Quicksilver is a mutant who possesses the superhuman capacity to think and move at great speeds. His entire body is adapted towards the rigors of high-speed running. His cardiovascular and respiratory systems are many times more efficient than those of a normal human being. He metabolizes an estimated 95% of the caloric energy content of foodstuffs (normal human use is about 25%). The chemical processes of Quicksilver's musculature are so highly enhanced that his body does not generate fatigue poisons, the normal by-products of locomotion, which force the body to rest. Rather, his body constantly expels waste products during his accelerated respiration through exhalation. His joints are smoother and lubricated more efficiently than those of a normal human being. His tendons have the tensile strength of spring steel. His bones contain unknown materials significantly more durable than calcium to withstand the dynamic shocks of his feet touching the ground at speeds of over 100 miles per hour. Quicksilver's practical reaction time is about five times faster than a normal human's and the speed at which his brain processes information is heightened to a level commensurate with his bodily speed, enabling him to perceive his surroundings while traveling at high velocities. Quicksilver's lachrymose is more viscous than normal, thus preventing rapid evaporation and replenishment of surface fluids on his eyeballs under the influence of high wind velocity to occlude his vision.

Quicksilver has been timed at speeds of up to 175 miles per hour, approximately three times faster than the fastest land animal, the cheetah. He has sufficient energy reserves to enable him to run at this average speed for about four hours, whereupon he must reduce his speed, replenish his body's store of energy, or do both.

Quicksilver has used his powers of acceleration for various feats. He has plucked an arrow out of the air from a standing start, after the arrow left the bow and traveled a distance of about 20 feet. He has dodged machine gun fire, but presumably he was able to see the path of the bullets change as his assailant was attempting to track him with a burst. He has created cyclone-like gusts of wind, which are able to knock a man off his feet, by racing around in a ten-foot diameter circle. With a 500-foot approach to gain momentum, Quicksilver can run approximately 300 feet up the side of a surface with a 90-degree inclination (such as a building) before gravity overtakes him. With a 100-foot approach to gain momentum, he can run across a body of water for approximately 1000 feet before beginning to sink.

I have a mutant who I always thought was far fetched.
Colossus.
The Power to cover himself in organic metal.
Now there are two things in particular I'm wondering. How if he turns into Metal does his body still move like a normal human. He should become nothing more than a Metal Statue.
Plus even if he can move how does having metal muscles help you to lift more. The ability to lift something means your muscles pushing something in a direction. Metal would make the muscles able to take more strain on the individual muscle fibers but it wouldn't really help with the actual moving of items. He should be nothing more than than a tougher skinned normal human.

Blair Wind
actually he turns his WHOLE body into metal...

Superhuman Powers: Colossus possesses the mutant ability to transform his entire body into solid, nigh-invulnerable, organic osmium steel. In this "armored" form, Colossus posses sufficient strength to lift over 100 tons. He can withstand the impact of a 5,000 ton speeding train, the ballistic penetration of a 110 millimeter Howitzer shell, and the explosive force of nearly 500 pounds of TNT. His eyes are sufficiently strong to resist the impact of a .45 calibur bullet at close range. He is highly resistant to heat and cold (being able to receive full-force blasts from The Human Torch and/or Ice Man without taking damage) and can survive temperature extremes from -320o Fahrenheit to approximately 9000o F. Being conductive, he is immune to electricity. Colossus's armored body cannot rust. Also Colossus doesn't need to eat and breath, but he still can't survive in the vacuum of space. Why not? As solid steel, Colossus would be utterly immune to explosive decompression and thus easily capable of surviving in a total vaccum. Also, it seems logical to suppose that in his steel form Colossus be utterly tireless as well, since the biological processes that contribute to fatigue would no longer be present.

I understand that but thats what I'm getting at. If his whole body turns to metal then how does it work. He should be nothing more than statue. His muscle fibers would be replaced by nonstrecthy metal sthrands which wouldn't let him move much.
Also why does having Metal body alloy him to lift more. His Musle Fibers could take more strain but that doesn't have anything to do with lifting. Lifting comes down to how much energy you can summon to move the obstacle. In reality all Metal Muscle fibrs should allow him to be good at is resisting something but a person is more likely to lift than resist somehing in times of need. I will give this the tough Muscle Fibers would allow him to lift more but I don't think he would lift more than a half ton at the most a ton. No way he should be able to lift 100 tons.

eristole
ok, i'm guessing that by Organic metal, it inherits the durability of steel and the strength, if you look up how your muscles work it's kind of like a system of stretch one, relax the other, i'm sure it's just like an adamantium spring... that said.. i'm still thinking about blink..

her power has to be linked with some kind of displacement, i mean it shouldnt work like nightcrawlers with another dimension...

what trips me out is that she can take a fall, from a verticle, and turn
it into horizontal movement.. that displacement is just, odd.. i mean, not even kurt can do that with his ports.. if he's falling, he's falling whether he ports or not. so if she ports to another dimension, the rules of physics apply, just no the rules of gravity..

i'm boggled by this and i need ideas..

His mutation doesn't just grant him wings. He mutation also gives him hollow, bird-like bones, making his body much lighter than it would be with normal, human bones. He also has zero body fat in his entire body. These things enable him his large, powerful wings to easily gain enough to lift to well, lift Angel up and fly away flapping his wings like a bird.

so he can like engorge himself in food and not gain an ounce, (jealousblowup )

Hollow bones, though official, is a very iffy explanation on Marvel's part, considering that the marrow is in the bones.

eristole
his is pretty easy to explain actually, earthquakes are caused by the tectonic plates shifting underground, earthquakes happen when to plates collide and then one drops below the other, this creates a drop or lift in the earth above it and creates an "earth quake".. his power allows him the ability to control the tectonic plates.. which although is rather hard to imagine, it'd be alot easier to explain if i werent really tired.

...or he can psychically link his mind to tectonic plates

aight...this is a question about Iceman, I know I posted a description but this is a theory type question I have about him...I posted this in the Iceman Pic thread (cuz they merged that thread with my Iceman: Powers & Ability thread that I had a while back) here goes

ok since the picture thread got merged with my Iceman: Powers and Ablilities thread im gonna ask a question about his powers...if he can unfreeze himself (or at least was once able to when he was fully human) does that mean he can make the molecules that he stops to freeze move again? wouldnt that mean with enough training he could actually do the opposite of his power and make fire or just something really ho by moving the molecules reallllly fastt??? or his it more that he let go of his control over the molecules and they go back to normal....but wouldnt that take a while to unfreeze?

Jury
I can't really point out the UNFREEZING properties og Iceman, but this is how his ICE works:

MR. ICEMAN

http://www.uncannyxmen.net/images/spotlight/iceman00.jpg

Iceman is capable of manipulating subzero energy. This energy slows down molecular activity, causing temperatures to drop. He is apparently capable of reducing molecular motion all the way down to absolute zero. Applying his power to liquids causes them to freeze instantly, and freezing solids often causes them to become brittle and crack under the sudden temperature shift. Mostly, though, he uses his power to create ice, by condensing water vapor and moisture in the atmosphere. When attacking solid objects, he often tends to direct his freezing beams at the atmosphere around them instead of the object itself, covering it in layers of ice instead of disrupting its molecular integrity with a quick-freeze. By focusing, he can shape the ice he makes into various forms like a spray of ice daggers, walls or domes of ice for protection, ladders, columns, boomerangs, lassos, etc. Iceman's classic mode of transportation was his ice slides, ramps of ice supported by a series of columns which he could slide along. Recently, Iceman has begun experimenting in creating animated ice sculptures, constructs he can move like stop-motion cinematography by cracking and refreezing them thousands of times a minute.

Iceman can also affect his own body with his powers. Possessing a natural resistance to intense cold and its side effects, Bobby originally produced a thin layer of snow over his body to disguise his features. Shortly into his career, he hardened this into a layer of ice, which constantly cracks and refreezes as he moves due to the subzero temperatures his body is radiating. Decades later, Iceman began experimenting with adding additional layers of ice onto his body, artificially bulking up his body with an exo-armor of ice that increased his strength and durability. Not that much longer after that, though, Iceman learned how to physically transform his carbon-based body into "organic ice", morphing himself into a sentient and animated ice statue. This granted him a number of new abilities. As organic ice, Bobby can suffer all kinds of physical damage without truly being injured by it. He can lose and arm or have a hole the size of a soccer ball blown through his chest, and his powers can simply freeze new ice to replace the missing substance, leaving him no worse for the wear providing he does this before trying to turn back to human. Iceman can also morph his organic ice body in different ways, adding additional amounts of ice to grow to giant size at will, extend his arms to different lengths, transform his hands into blades or hammers, etc. Recently, a secondary mutation has kicked in, forcing Iceman to remain in his ice form at all times and not allowing him to revert back to flesh and blood at all. Therefore, it seems likely that he no longer requires sustenance such as food, drink, or oxygen in order to survive. Though he rarely employs the ability, Iceman is capable of mentally altering his body's state of matter, transforming from ice into water or water vapor. Drake can project his consciousness through a uniform, unbroken medium in these states, allowing him to relocate himself at the speed of thought. To explain, if Iceman jumped into a lake and transformed into water, his consciousness could transfer itself instantly into any other water molecules around him, allowing him to immediately reform himself anywhere along the shore of the lake, since all the water there is connected. By becoming water vapor, he could move instantaneously around a moisture-rich atmosphere in the same manner.

mmm...see I have a problem with that description...if you read the description I put up it shows how if he actually took moiusture from the air to do all his crazy stunts......well the world was we know it would not exist, cuz all the mouisture in a given area would be used and we would be dead....my descriptions like one or two pages back...read it...you see what Im sayin??

EARTHQUAKE, TIDAL WAVES, AND AVALANCHE

http://www.uncannyxmen.net/images/headshots/avalanche.jpg

Avalanche can generate powerful vibrations from his hands. By focusing his power on a target, he can strike objects with shockwaves carrying a concussive impact, cause them to shatter, or destabilize his target at a molecular level so that it crumbles and disintegrates into powder. His power cannot be used against organic matter -- attempting to do so will cause his vibrations to reverberate and feedback on him, which once broke nearly every bone in his arms when he tried to vibe the Hulk. By directing vibrations at the ground beneath himself, Avalanche can stimulate ground tremors, creating shakers that throw his opponents off balance, open fissues in the earth, and can weaken the structural integrity of building foundations or the ground itself. This application of his powers is especially effective on earth that is already seismically unstable. He has practiced in using his powers to create ripple effects which alter the landscape under his control. Avalanche can create slopes and inclines from flat level ground, cause chunks of pavement or earth to blast up into the air and then fall in simulated landslides or avalanches, or summon "tidal waves" of matter that ripple across the ground. He can ride atop these waves for transportation, or use them to bury his opponents.
